IMO this was a bad batch. I've had separate bottlings of this and its very good. To me this was a gem considering the cost vs comparable aged whiskies. Would love to see a re-review.

Weird one - I've had this dram so many times over here in the UK and never found it hot or peppery. Nice balanced spices hiding behind a thick layer of sherry, but never much heat.

As always, the honest review off the cuff is always appreciated from you guys! I think Drew may be right about this one needing some time. Disclaimer-- have not had this bottle yet. BUT, if this is anything like the 12, this might be a bottle that really needs to open up a bit. The 12 is my house or well-scotch. I keep several bottles on hand at all times. Because at $28 it can't be beat. I really enjoy it - but every bottle IMO, without fail, the first couple/few drams are just okay. But after some time in the bottle it really starts to shine. Of course, this one could be totally different, and folks' experiences will vary. But based on my experience with the 12, I really wonder if the 18 is going to be similar.

You got a bad bottle, price wise this is a steal, this Scotch takes I couple of weeks to open up. This 18 year old is one of the best for its price. It is very complex, toffee,honey, chocolate, dark fruits, lots of cinnamon and white pepper, awesome!!!!

I had the previous bottling a couple of years ago - came in a black & white box, said non chill filtered on it. It was pretty decent ( not too spicy) and cost $72. I worry when fancy new bottle styles and boxes come out. Makes me wonder if the juice is not as good and they compensate w marketing “flannel”. Sounds like this might be case here. Cheers!

For me you got it all wrong in this one. On my bottling there is written non-chillfiltered and natural colour and it is delicious.

Just to add some support on this, I had the exact same experience with mine, bottled 24th of January 2020. Pretty sweet on the nose, spicy and then bitter with a short finish.

The neck pour, I just pulled the trigger as an oloroso experience. So it's not a sherry bomb.

Never had it! I've had the 12yr and it was decent for 35 bucks...good deal actually. The old 18yr bottling is still on the shelf by me. I've never pulled the trigger on it though. Cheers!
