This was so late because we are busy farming, in fact I'm just getting to answer this because I broke my ankle and am stuck inside! We start our tomatoes the beginning of February and transplant them twice before we put them in the greenhouse the first part of April. We are in eastern WA almost to the Canadian border, so we have a short growing season.

Good question. Tomatoes benefit by being transplanted deeply, and since we transplant twice, each time they can go in deeper thus developing a larger root system. They also go in deeper when they are planted in our greenhouse.

We just use one cool and one warm florescent light in each fixture. These are cheaper than the full-spectrum bulbs.
