19:47 - the observable universe is 93 billion (9.3x10^9) light years across. That means poop bucket is traversing approximately 10,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000 observable universes... per second. Assuming there's an average 397g of daily poo in the bucket (I've got that in my search history now, thanks, TA) the relativistic energy of this bucket would be equivalent to 1.87x10^76 eV or about 3 x10^57 watt-seconds. This is equivalent to the total output of 10,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000 suns.

9:08 the reason is known, it's caused by accidentally giving the prop vehicle physics, but most props don't have the right weight which causes them to have this strange noclip like effect, when the player makes contact with the prop they get vehicle physics as well and that's what leads them to fly, the reason that specific vehicle counts is because it's actually cut content from the game! the combine were originally supposed to drive around in these acp's and tanks but it was eventually scrapped. the vehicle still seems to have some remnants of code though
@fantastikboom1094

Oh! Does this explain the "poop bucket flying off into space" bug? Because vehicles' default behaviour to upright themselves can produce some crazy position and rotation velocity (involving a sudden vertical push after its wheels just contact a surface, from memory), making the vehicle fly around in a bizarre, mosquito-like pattern until it reaches an arbitrary destination. I'd imagine that the bucket's low weight coupled with no actual wheels attached means the prop keeps attempting to upright itself every physics tick, sending it off at the speed it does. Watching both clips of peng bumping the bucket frame-by-frame, it looks as if the bucket attempts to upright itself both times before being launched, which is very similar to the start of vehicles bugging out from their upright behaviour.

The Combine DO drive apcs but not only does this barely happen, the AI for it is just shit. It struggles to do anything more complex than one-off moments of driving down a street. Having an apc chase the player requires *constantly* telling the APC to drive to the player, and even the it's super buggy. The game as it was in the September 2003 leak included *significantly* more segments of moving APCs.

20:27 idk why but this whole sequence really got to me as being so absurd in a narrative sense. Demigod who is jet boosting through reality gets blocked by a simple iron gate, responds by time traveling, making a poop bucket fly to the edge of the universe instantly, and then very very VERY carefully starts putting two paint cans on top of eachother, constantly having to insure their safety by securing the time and place of every known object that exists every couple fractions of a second. All to pass through an iron gate.

It's worth mentioning that the reason the two bounding boxes are called the Quake box and the Havok box are because the source engine is based off of the Quake video game source code, which is in charge of the movement and other things. Havok is the physics engine that Valve licensed for the source engine, and I guess for some reason they had to use a different bounding box for the two systems instead of just one. This explains why the Havok box takes priority when dealing with physics objects as it is the bounding box for the physics engine.

Hey at one point I made a comment on your video where I was in a very bad place in life. Since then, I met my girlfriend, the love of my life, I got promoted twice at work, and my dad made a miraculous recovery after getting a liver transplant. We got more dogs after jack passed and they helped fill a lot of our life with joy. I moved back in with my parents to help take care of my dad but the girlfriend and I are talking about moving in together now that my dad doesn't need as much help anymore. Life is doing good, and I found that greener pasture. You are right, making that kind of final choice in a moment where you are low and not thinking clearly deprives you of life once it gets better, because life does get better. Your videos made me laugh and helped me though a tough time when I needed it, thank you

@@JustAJauneArc I think it's a reference to old "collect calls". You could call someone and if your message was short enough (such as "we had a bb it's a boy"), you could fit it into the name "input field", so to speak. And then the robot voice would say to the other person " Will you accept a call from 'We had a baby it's a boy'?" and then they wouldn't have to accept the call because the message had been successfully transmitted for free, circumventing the system. This was pre-texting, obviously.

1:02:03 Fact check. The item used to break open the crates was a SMG Nade, not a RPG Rocket. (Fun fact: If he had kept 1 RPG rocket in the chamber and fired it, going down to 0 rockets, the 3 rockets he got from the crate would've instantly reloaded the RPG - the RPG's reload animation is skipped if you hit 0 rockets)

Damn, these modern speedruns have 2 things that really impress me. 1st is the amount of research of game physics that goes into it. Its legit science at this point. 2nd is how code reacts to all these shananigans players throw at it and consequences of it. Amazing stuff.

Jokes aside, thank you for your videos. I always think the intermissions for encouragin words are a nice touch. While I'm doing fine myself, I hope these words reach people who need to hear them and I am also cheering for everyone to take every day head-on, do their best and work towards what they need to work on

I love learning about Half Life and FPS runs because you have to be sooo precise all the time and the movement is still inherently imprecise through most of it. It blows my mind.

Really well done video, lots of complicated topics that are explained really well in a condensed format. The chapters and layout of the video helped, because I found myself jumping around to remind myself about the different tech. I did get confused and missed the quickclip explanation, its at 33:10 for anyone that also missed it
