Nothing will ever compare to this original TR1 version from 1996. The music by Nathan Mcree and feeling of being lost, in amazing open spaces! It was like you was really there! I was in my teens when i first played this in 96, and it still gives me goose bumps to this day, when the theme tune kicks in 😊 todays graphics maybe better, but nothing gives you the atmosphere that this game gave you, all those years ago! It was completely ahead of its time. It will never be forgotten, and i must play it again 😁

I would have liked to have seen Core Design's interpritaton of Tomb Raider Anniversary. I think the world of all the Tomb Raider's but nothing can beat that clausrophobic yet ironicly enough open envionroment of the first game. I love the minimalistic story and lack of cutscenes. The cutscenes were great because the few it had were quality and because there was only a few, when you caught up to them it felt like you earned it and felt rewwarding to watch them.

When I was a kid I saw that moment where she cut the rope to try and save her tour guide and I was humbled by that because she showed that she will defend the ones who stand with her. It’s a scene I’ve always remembered, Not only that but I also wanted to be like her and in a way I am. I love danger.

I can confirm the level datafor the ponytail DOES EXIST in Level3A also IT SHOWS if you load it in that new "open lara" browser version of the game, those guys are a genius ;)

The original story written at 0:44 is actually really interesting to me. It does paint Lara in much more of a self-serving asshole light, but it could have been pretty great in its own right. You can even see certain parts of the original story that ended up being used in the later games.

One of the Atlantean's original groaning sounded terrifying. Plus, the Atlantean fish would have made a perfect addition to the watery parts of Atlantis and the Atlantean Dinosaur would have made a great boss battle in Atlantis. Two would have been perfect for the boss battle, especially somewhere between, or towards the end of Atlantis.

20:56 Dear god is that an alternative look for Bacon Lara? That's... super creepy... I'm half glad and half sad that it's not the one they used in the end. Also I've never before seen that bit with Lara throwing the knife at a wolf in the cutscene (12:59), that's so cool, why did they not leave it in? (I guess because it interrupts the scene where she throws the cloak off and unholsters weapons, but still...) It'd also explain why she has the knife in the cutscene but can't use it later.

For Beta Bacon Lara, yes, it is.Like a replace Lara's head to put Bacon Lara's body and really creepy like a zombie. I didn't know Lara throwing the knife at the beginning after I found extended cutscene.I think Core deleted like a abuse animals with knife (then, censored) or something like that?

With all that happens in the game, I don't think they cared about animal abuse... Is a knife worse than a pistol? :D (As I said, my guess would be that the scenes changed too much, too fast, and made it confusing. But... who really knows.)

i was a huge fan of the first game so its interesting to see this, i had it on the sega saturn first in 96 and it just blew my socks off, when tomb raider 2 got canned for the saturn i switched to the playstation but bought the original game again for the psx, and still have it to this day, i played it again on the playstation 2 with the enhanced graphics mode, i must have played 20 complete runs through tr1, the other games were either decent or forgettable to me, TR2 was good but it did'nt have the same magic and i missed the original voice actress, i did'nt like TR3, it was a chore to finish and by the time i did i knew i would never replay it, i liked the last revelation more but again when it was over i knew i knew i wouldnt be going back, chronicles had its moments but when i got to the end i was underwhelmed, angel of darkness i just couldnt play it, between the control and the load times there was no way, its the only tomb raider game i started and never finished, i really enjoyed legend, it had a few flaws but i thought it was a great effort, when i saw the first trailers for anniversary i was so amped up, my favourite game in the world was getting a face lift, but alas no they changed too much of the level designs and with their stupid scripted boss fights and quick time events i ended up hating it, i thought underworld was better but i found legend the most enjoyable of that trilogy, when the reboot came out i got it for the xbox 360 and quite liked it, i wasnt blown away but enjoyed it, fast forward to present day and i am now just starting rise, it got mixed reviews along with shadow but since i found them both cheap second hand im going for it, TR1 though has a special place in my heart though that no other game will ever match

The framerate issue has nothing to do with the braid, actually it was just because of the way the video footage was recorded. It has been discussed several times on TRF, and the new leaked beta videos proove that.

In final version, there's Lara's braid in Level 3 files.Which they just tested it or forgot to removed, or no longer to put after Lara wear short hair in game.

I'm honestly curious as where the timeframe of the first cutscene happens. It doesn't seem to explain anything of the sort. Did it happen before the game began? The other outfit Laura carries on isn't seen anywhere else. She never wears a different outfit at all, not even in the final game.

Uncharted is a very different game. It's focus was on narrative, character banter/interaction, combat & big set pieces. Tomb Raider was built around exploration, platforming, puzzle solving & isolation. There is room for both styles of game, but Crystal Dynamics decided to copy Uncharted, instead of sticking with the original foundations.

It's the "Options" ring of the menu - so I'm guessing - Gameboy = Control Settings Flashlight = Brightness Settings Walkman = Sound Settings Glasses = Screen Adjust Passport = Level Select Dynamite & Journal are far more interesting to me. Given how obscure / confusing some people find the story in these early games (especially some of the cutscenes being hard to interpret) the Journal could have been for hints, but also to record the narrative (the story so far). Dynamite / grenades is something they never went back to - I wonder if it was for fighting enemies or blowing holes in walls to find secret area's?

7:15 "dual aim" No, she has never been able to dual aim in TR1 at any stage, this is myth. If you look closely she targets only *one* wolf at a time. What you see is her taking a long time readjusting her right arm to the first wolf. If they were able to do that why would they have removed it?

Given where it is in the menu screen I reckon it was just a Brightness setting, not an item to be used - later it got combined with the screen adjust setting in the final game.
