Saturn = dark, but on purpose and meant to be seen this way. dark halls hide polygonal edges of terrain for a realistic look. PS1 = a port with brighter, but duller graphics, made for exposure to greater audience DOS = Similar to PS1, slightly brighter Win = filtering Android = custom texture NOTE: Saturn version on a CRT was the best visual representation for this game, namely on a SONY, JVC or Mitsubishi that had prominent scanlines. The PS1 version vs Saturn via scanlines is like night and day, PS1's dithering is almost crippling.

I would say Saturn is the most atmospheric. The PC and android one looks too clean and makes the game look kinda bland.

It looks like the DOS version is being played in the 320x240 and the Windows version is the same as the DOS version with 3DFX applied (640x480 with texture filtering). Really impressed at how close the PS1 version gets to the DOS version though. Even in low res it required a Pentium, and when that console was released a PC with that CPU was like $3000 - in mid 1990s dollars!

I owned a Saturn from as soon as they were released in the US. I never had a Playstation until around 1999 or whenever the PSX "slim" came out. I still have that same PSX and even the box and the Saturn as well. Anyway, I lean toward the Saturn version of TR. To me, it looks better. Back in the mid to late 90s, my Saturn got lots of play and it is the most nostalgic console for me. The original Tomb Raider, Need for Speed, Resident Evil, Daytona USA, Crusader: No Remorse, Ghen War and many others were part of my library. I even had Shining Force III, which has long since been lost. But Tomb Raider really stands out. Hearing that opening music takes me back to my high school days when all my friends and family were still alive. I'm still an avid gamer now in my early 40s and I often go back to these old games for the nostalgia when I'm not playing something newer like Trials of Mana or DQXI.

Well yes and no. This was a very late dos game (windows 95 existed already), it was years after doom, and came out at the same time as quake 1 which was also software rendered like this.

I always thought the saturn and the best colours. For a console that "couldn't do transparency", it was a great port. *it could do transparency, Sonic R is a great example.

The pc version is Wonderful, and very similar to the android version, but with a more resolution. but some textures are different like the moss is more realistic but the ilimination is very bad in android

You should start with Legend, then Anniversary and then Underworld. Then, if you’re feeling particularly adventurous and want to challenge yourself, play the 6 games that released before Legend

Then went to the original on PS1. OMG the controls are so clunky AAAAHAHAHHAHA I'm not sure I have the patience to play it through LOL

The darkest version is for Saturn, but the polygons of the connection are made better than in the version for ps1, of course the best is both PC versions, and for Android there is a completely different theme, it is more reminiscent of some kind of remaster.. It was also possible to compare water between platforms where it is better and a conservation crystal

I love the darker, obscure and terrorific atmosphere of the Sega Saturn original game. The PS1 port works better but i like more the saturn game in the aspect side. Performance yes, the PS1 version was better. The dos versions is pushing the system to its limits touching the quality of early Windows 95 games.

Has to be stock hardware. My emulator of the game does have a relatively clean resolution where you could fully make out Lara’s face. Here you can’t. It’s all scrambled.

There were two editions. One was made for DOS mode (Win98, reboot in DOS mode). There was 3DFX support for filtering and color enhancement. PC version commonly called the Win version, also available on Mac OS, was made for Windowed environment. Also supported 3DFX. Unfiltered had a higher resolution support than DOS version.

but why then for the PC version they didn’t implement this same beautiful and transparent crystal with a mirror reflection for saving saves as it was done in the us_version on ps1 and, this moment is still unclear to me, on the Sega Saturn there is also no transparent crystal and when does the process of Lara’s transformation take place in gold at one of the levels, either Saturn did not support such graphics or there were problems in its programming part with the hardware, it’s all not very clear, but the fact that TR2 was not released for Saturn proves a little about the weakness of the console or the inadequate complexity of the Saturn hardware itself

yes, of course for the PC and on the Windows archetype itself, you can create a lot, and perhaps in the future, craftsmen fans such as from the group of enthusiasts, the trle team, will finish the standard version of TR1 & TR2 to introduce the transparency of those details that were for the ps1 version, although I have already seen interesting ones online the open-lara engine (in some places it looks more interesting than the recent remake of TR-classic) there is even a first-person view and, of course, I would like their developers to assemble their entire version of TR-classic and then release steem for sale.. P.s regarding the Sega Satur, I agree that everything was so simple and the console itself was also interesting (2D game projects looked better on it), but still the PS1 won this battle in those years
