This Tomb Raider Definitive Edition for PC is currently only available on the Xbox/Microsoft store. That's sort of disappointing but could always change with time.
I talk gaming news and gaming discussions. Anything from Xbox news to PlayStation news. The PlayStation 5 or the Xbox Series X, but these days I'm mostly enjoying my PC and doing game reviews. I've done game reviews for Alien: Isolation, Fallout New Vegas, Fallout 4, The Evil Within, and I've even discussed resolutions and monitors.

I actually have no idea what happened with the last few minutes of footage. Apologies for that. Seems some of the recorded footage somehow switched to a different resolution even though in game it was set to 4K. Will try to avoid allowing that to happen again.

The disrespect for PC is insane in the gaming industry. Releasing a 10 year old game on PC without any meaningful changes and shamelessly charging 20 dollars for it.

This release is so random and makes no sense like at all. They released this version of the game in 2014 for PS4 and Xbox One. It should have just been a free patch on PC.

Finally we're able to play this version at 4K 60FPS ! I hope some bugfixes will come along regardless.

Hopefully it comes to steam, i liked this new version mostly cause it fixes the trees and bushes to actually move, instead of being static in some places in the original, they could have just released a patch instead of a new version of the game though

Yeah. Patch is preferred because there isn’t really enough here to set it apart from what we already have.

@@IcyRhythmsthereal People would get pissed if it was a patch cause it's gonna break like every mod that exist for the game also a lot of people (for some reason) prefer the old face I'd prefer if they just make both available as separate games and give the new version free to people who already own the original like Borderlands 1 remastered or make it a free DLC like the 4k textures for Borderlands 2.

tomb raider 2013 definitive was my first tomb raider game. I liked uncharted games a lot but for some reason I liked this game more.

I ended up downloading a mod to fix the cutscenes for now, but it definitely needs a patch. I submitted a bug report with some of the worst ones - but like, how do they patch this ancient game? It's a very weird release but I'm still very happy to finally have this on PC - it should definitely comes to Steam!

The new face model in the definitive addition matched the face model in the intro pre rendered cutscene of the game. I always wondered why Lara's face looked different in the intro video. However, which face looks better is subjective. But one thing's for certain, the new face model lacks facial expressions compared to the original face. Her eyes barely show any expression and she looks like a robot. I was hoping they at least improved the facial animations for the new models for this pc release but I guess that's too much to ask for.

I guess it was one of those things where the game was already well optimized and looked amazing on PC. Some still prefer the old face. In some ways, I do too.

Her old face didn’t match the cutscenes even more. The idea of the new Lara was to match her better with the CGI cutscenes. But yeah, this looks like a port of the Xbox version to PC and I have a feeling this wasn’t even meant to happen, it was maybe something they had years ago and cancelled and now suddenly MS has released it because they still had it? It’s very random timing and Crystal have not said anything about it, not even a tweet. So probably a case of the game was finished for PC, release was cancelled because there wasn’t enough of a jump on PC to re-release it like there was for PS4 and XB1. And back in early 2010’s, next gen updates weren’t really a thing ig. That started more in the PS4 to PS4 Pro/PS5 era.

I'm out here just waiting for it to be released on Steam. I'm glad we're finally getting this version. I love to see the updated textures for almost everything. Just one correction for your video: The cutscenes where the old Lara model appears are just the cutscenes that shows the recordings of Sam's camera. Even in the original release for PC, they didn't fix that problem

I didn't know they changed Lara's face model in the Definitive edition because honestly I thought she look the same in the PS3 and 360 version. Truthfully I didn't pay much attention to it while I was playing them at the time and the game itself still looks good and plays really well after its release.

Yeah. Some things about it look dated but for the most part the game still looks great.

Sounds really disappointing, like it's not worth the $20. I think they didn't drop it on Steam because they knew people would most likely refund it. Did Crystal Dynamics handle this? Even if they didn't, I still don't trust them with Lara Croft any more. I hope someone else gets the IP for the newer games at some point.

VSync caps the frame rate at 30. Am I the only one experiencing this? It is supposed to cap it at 60 just like other games on my PC.

Kinda similar situation here…. I have it set to 120 fps and turning on VSync caps it at 60. Turning off VSync lets it run at 120 fps but with tearing. Turning on VSync in the NVidia app didn’t help.

This version of the game is a total mess… There isn’t a Xbox Live support which means the game doesn’t track anything, most importantly the achievements. I just hope that they notice it and fix it.

Her face and all her skin and clothes textures were updated

@@Gu12herme They also added subsurface scattering so when light interacts with a character the light penetrates the skin giving a kind of realistic glow like when you shine a flashlight on your hand.

If you bought this digitally for the Xbox One/Series already, you were given this new PC version for free since it is now an Xbox Play Anywhere title. Second, this version of the game, that DID NOT EXIST before, is now on PC Game Pass starting today. I bet Microsoft paid for the development of this version to exist so they can then pay for it to be on PC Game Pass, so don't expect this to be on Steam or anywhere else except the Microsoft Store.

I actually can’t speak to whether it has auto hdr or not. It definitely doesn’t have an hdr setting by default.
