the clay body and the pakistani thin body ones sound very close to a specific Tombak that was popular during the mid to late 20th century made with a metalic body. it was commonly used in folkloric music of Tehran and in variety shows. It is rather rare nowadays but sounds very sharp.

Very well played, I didn't know that Tombak also has so many types, I wonder if there's anything like a standard Tombak instrument of one particular type? Is it the Persian variant that's the classical and standard? Just wondering; love from India 👍🇮🇳🙏

Thanks for compliment) Multiple body means that’s Tombak built from several pieces of wood, but usually this instrument are cheap and bad quality. For my opinion I prefer whole body , good quality walnut or mulberry.

No doubt Kirill is good. But in what sense is he better than most Iranian maestros? Could you please elaborate a little? I am actually I interested in knowing the basis for your bald claim.
@fabz1509
@fabz1509 3 жыл бұрын
@@clifffff7630 when a traditional instrument is played by someone who's not of that ethnicity in this case Kiril, very enchanting nuances tend to occur. The polyrhytms he presents are so innovative seldom heard even from the new generation of zarb players. The segment "tombak from France" is simply "magnifique". Taste is subjective in music as we all enjoy various artists, however when it comes to technique Kirills effortless virtuosiry can not be denied. Btw how did you know I'm "bald"? ;-)
@clifffff7630
@clifffff7630 3 жыл бұрын
@@fabz1509 I used the adjective "bald" to convey that your statement was undisguised or blunt. Had I been under the impression that it had no supportive evidence (i.e. was overly confident and risky), I would have used the adjective "bold". Remember that I did not dismiss your argument (which I would have done had I considered it to be "bold"), but instead asked you to simply supply your underlying reasoning...

Hello. Thank you so much for these tutorials they are priceless. I have an issue with my tombak, it sounded beautiful in Iran but as soon as I bought it back to Europe it became more bassy and lost a lot of the clicking sound. How do you prepare your tombak for performances? Do you think I have to heat up the tombak with a blow dryer or just play on it more often?
