Great review, as always Tom! Like you, I still prefer the sound of the first version of the Mv7. I want to leave a warning for those who, like me, have the first version of the Mv7: the last time I tried to update the Shure Plus MOTIV, I received a message saying that they will stop updating the software and are encouraging people to use the new Shure Motiv Mix. It turns out that when using the Motiv Mix with the first version of the Mv7, it does not enable any of the features such as compressor, limiter, among others. Only if you have the new Mv7 Plus. Of course I will continue using the Plus Motiv. Shure should support it for a while longer, after all, it has not even been 5 years since the launch of the first Mv7. Greetings, Tom!

Is there anything I might have missed? Again, great video!
@tombuck15 күн бұрын
There are definitely a lot of differences between voices, so you might need some different settings than I'm using. The Motiv app is pretty great though, so it should be able to help! If things are sounding muddy, pushing the mic tone more towards the "bright" setting is the first thing I'd recommend. If you turn off auto gain it'll then give you access to a compressor which can help to brighten things up too, but I'd keep that as a last resort since auto gain is quite nice to have.

I can attest to the original MV7 micro USB port breaking...... torn traces, not repairable. Fortunately I normally use the MV7 via XLR into a MixPre-3ii recorder / interface so it has not been catastrophic with the broken USB. I did like being able to monitor my own audio without latency by plugging my headset directly into the MV7 headphone jack and still be able to hear desktop audio. Glad to see they upgraded the USB port to USB-C for the new model.

@tombuck4 ай бұрын
I love the Profile! The important thing to remember is that your computer's input gain needs to be set properly. It's usually buried in the sound settings, and if it's too low, then it won't matter if a mic's gain is maxed out. As for background noise, the Profile is a condenser and the MV7 is dynamic, so in general a dynamic mic will pick up less noise.

Is the windscreen on the MV7+ thicker at the top from the shorter MV7 and if so where can that particular one be ordered so I might be able to use it on my old MV7?
@tombuck4 ай бұрын
The new default one isn't any thicker, just longer. I like the reporterstore or Doc Pop replacements since they're much higher quality.

@@tombuck so I assume there is a bit of a gap in between the microphone itself and the windscreen if there is not any extra cushion in the windscreen🤔
@HomesickMac4 ай бұрын
Yup, keeping the OG MV7, invested in the colorware and a custom logoed windscreen hehe..

Can you plug this into a canon c70 somehow ?
@tombuckАй бұрын
You can run it into one of the mini XLR ports with a full size to mini adapter/cable.

If you’re not a brand snob, the Ffine product line up such as the Tank 3 are cheaper and imho better options. I have a K688 and the sound ranks up with the SM7b.

Hello, purchased mv7+ and the RØDE DS2 Desktop stand, and the mv7+ does not fit. The screw hole is much bigger, am I missing a screw/nut? Thanks!
@tombuck4 ай бұрын
The MV7shiuld have come with a small metal adapter. This will allow the mic’s 5/8 connector to work with the stand’s 3/8 connector (this is very common for most mics and boom arms/stands).

How does it sound when you have the mic a little further from your mouth?
@tombuck4 ай бұрын
The mic is designed to be 6-12 inches away, so you wouldn't really want to use it further than that.

MV7+ vs Videomic GO II?
@tombuck3 ай бұрын
Definitely different purposes. The Videomix is better if you want to be further from the mic, and the Shure is better if you cna position the mic close to the speaker (6-12 inches).
