Hey! Something very important to point out is that a highly enhanced build of Magic Lantern called "Crop Mood" has been ported to the M2 recently. You have loads of presets for aspect ratios, resolutions and crop factors there with a much more intuitive arrangement of settings and stability.

My thoughts exactly. I just sold all my Canon M mount gear and moved MFT. Even worse, many 3rd party manufacturers stopped the M series also. Now you are limited to vintage and used. Seems to me, Canon was just trying to create a way to sell new and more expensive glass? Absolutely horrible was the creation of the "crippled" R100 which in almost every way underperforms previous models going back to the M50. One man's opinion.
@ryanleethomasАй бұрын
It’s the same size and flange distance as Sony E mount. Canon could have easily made Full Frame work on the EF-M. RF mount was a total sham.
@kiwipicsАй бұрын
The M mount isn't truly dead, as there are loads of third party lenses and the huge range of EF and EFs lenses work perfectly on any M body, and the M5 and M50 are perfect for adapting lenses from nearly any brand including the Voightlander 35mm f2.5 that I use on my Leica M6 Titanium body .... What's the problem ? It just means that I can pick up everyones M mount cast offs cheaply and sell on .. Winner winner chicken dinner.
@kiwipicsАй бұрын
@ryanleethomas They didn't need to ditch the M mount because, just like the Leica T and it's then new T mount, there is now a huge amount of third-party lenses from Sigma, Panasonic, 7 Artisans, TT Artisans, Viltrox etc etc. Now, the (ahead of it's time) Leica T can be had for £350 - £450 on Ebay and a 25mm f2 lens for £50 .. Crazy to say a system is dead just because a KZbinr says so.

I had the M2 for a while and loved it, however it really needs to be noted that it was only released in Asia for its retail commercial run. In practice, what this means is that most photo editing software developers took that as a cue to mostly not include RAW support for it in their programs (?!), with Lightroom being the notable exception. Since I personally use Capture One, that means I'm out of luck.

I'm not sure I will ever forgive Canon for ending the M line. As a Canon user for 50 years, I thought the system was brilliant, and did buy into it. If it had been around long enough to have a model with IBIS, I would still be using it.
@keima1110Ай бұрын
Me too. EOS M6 II has the best interface and the low light AF performance is better than my Sony A7RIV. I still have the originally EOS M, 18-55, 22, and 32, even though I might not use it again. Anyway, I am a sony user now, replacing my EOS M6 II with A7CII.
@BlueBomberTurboАй бұрын
If they would've made more serious cameras in the M line (M6 II was really the first, and the last M ever), I'm sure it would've stuck around. But Canon was nearly as bad as Nikon in terms of taking mirrorless as a whole seriously. That's how they both fell so far behind Sony, one of the few who took mirrorless seriously from the get go.

I have both Canon EOS M1 and M2. As long as you use a professional directivity white balance filter to calibrate the camera on-site color systerm to zero, you can use them to shoot photo with the image quality than no one can surpass with any camera or any lens.
@BlueBomberTurboАй бұрын
But the sensor had serious banding issues in the shadows. Very poor DR, even for when it arrived on the scene in 2012. Literally everyone, even back then, surpassed it in image quality. Minus other Canon cameras using the same sensor.
@GinoFotoАй бұрын
That 18mpx APS-C sensor is a nice bit of Canon' history by now, as it debuted on Sep 1, 2009 in EOS 7D and was used with Canon EOS 4000D which was announced on Feb 26, 2018. I had one in my 600D, was OK for its time, but it had characteristic prominent magenta cast.
@johnwinter6061Ай бұрын
I too had a 600D - with Tamron 18-270. Loved it. Went all over the world with it. Could have fixed that cast with software - auto lens correction. (I didn't notice it! Had a UV filter on the Tamron - maybe why?) Canon R series now does lens correction in camera for jpegs. Love it. So now I have RP + 24-240 and R50 with 100-400.

Recently acquired an Eos M w/ a speed booster for around $135. Of all the mirrorless options I currently have, it's probably my favorite so far. The speed booster works beautifully with all of the Canon lenses I have, and due to having adapter rings for my 5D classic, I can run my massive stash of Nikon and M42 lenses on this thing. Add in some tiny lenses that work perfectly with a 3D-printed adapter and there isn't much I CAN'T do with this little guy. Seeing as I don't do TOO much videography, I'm not sure about throwing Magic Lantern on it any time soon...but it's suuuper nice to have that option. Originally, it was the reason I even wanted to get one. Just so happens, I like it for stills more than a lot of my other stuff.
@johnwinter6061Ай бұрын
Yep. A shop tried to flog me an M series to replace my 600D. I skipped that. It was obvious then that the M series wasn't going to last. Neither was there anything like my Tamron 18-270 for this mount. It was a stop gap between moving to R series for APS-C whilst they developed R series FF first. R series APS-C is only now expanding with Sigma licensed to make lenses for it. BTW Mirrorless has been around for ages. Eg My Fuji 6MP. I missed the advantages of mirrorless when going to the 600D. Got it back with RP + 24-240 and R50 with 100-400. Love the in camera auto lens correction for jpegs.

The great Canon UI, a good viewfinder system, and excellent built quality make it a great entry option. The 32 mm lens is better than the much hyped Ricoh G series. It even gives my new X100VI a run for its money. It’s the latter’s ND, IBIS, internal filters, 6K and film sims that makes it an experienced photographer’s camera. I’ve looked at Sony, as the AF on their best models is good, but I still prefer the Canon UI and I can use all my decades old EF lenses on my M series if needed. I even stuck the excellent 75 to 300mm EF lens with the super fast focus on an M5 for a laugh - bit front heavy but it worked superbly well and focus was instant.

@@kiwipics nothing in particular, but they're still older at the end of the day and the technology is quickly starting to get left behind, it's still a definite marvel what the EOS M/M2 is capable of with magic lantern though, i just think the definition of dead largely has to do with the fact that there aren't any more cameras being made either, which means these technically are gonna start to classify as vintage camera bodies within a few years, and that kinda is what makes it dead, there's no more innovation left for the system (except for third party lens but they still go on the same bodies so it's not like it makes sense to make many more) and even if third parties make many more lenses that push the possibilities to new levels it's still limited to the capabilities of the camera body... now EOS M/M2 are far from limited right now but I mean, for example even rolling shutter is a big improvement they just miss out on, still quite poor rolling shutter in 4K/5.6K, while other cameras are coming out with CMOS sensors that have global shutter... one of many areas where the technology is just gonna get so left behind in the next 5-10 years as a starting body it's really good, but I would personally still buy lenses for a newer mount and adapt it to these cameras so that I could later use them on a newer body when it's time for me to upgrade, because while this camera performs extremely well in some categories, it falls short in others purely due to the age it was developed in and the fact that there aren't other M cameras I know of which can handle something like 4K 14bit RAW without severe rolling shutter, ya know? Other camera systems have moved on to superior video capability in this regard and plenty more dynamic range, and doesn't help that they typically come with more megapixels too (though I'm completely aware that's not too big of a factor here) now just for straight photography, it's not too bad either, but i just know specs like the burst rate and phase detection AF are probably gonna fall short in these first/second gen mirrorless cameras hopefully i made some fair points here?

Canon themselves sabotaged M mount twice. First, for their DSLRs and then for RF mount. Yet, they have to kill it because it kept going. It was that practical and more than enough for 99% people while being affordable.
@paristoАй бұрын
Canon's real problem is that they have never taken anything else than 35 mm sensor seriously. Even when Canon is only producing and selling Small Format cameras, they intentionally sabotage all others than 35 mm sensor, considering that they even only had in ILC category two formats, Half-Frame and Full-Frame behind same mount (EF and EF-S), until they made the EF-M mount (Electro-Focus Mirrorless) with same Half-Frame sensor size. Canon should have taken very seriously the Half-Frame, but it did happen only when they released the 7D and 7D Mk2. But if Canon would have really pushed, made something like a 5D but in smaller size and Half-Frame sensor, it would have sold better from the start. And then Canon main problem is that they were unwilling to cannibalise their 35 mm sales that is fully depending the lens purchases. They wanted that all buy the expensive and larger 35 mm image circle lenses regardless do they have Half-Frame body or not, and then they would "upgrade" to Full-Frame bodies as they already have lenses anyways for it. But the EF-M was exception to that, as it required more own lenses to be much smaller, but still same image circle as other Canon Half-Frame lenses. So they were seriously between rock and hard place. If Canon would have released about 15 autofocus lenses instead 8, they would had better system to offer (Sigma had 3, Tamron 1, Viltrox 3). Canon just can't push everything they have on tiny small body and own system. It was clearly meant to only keep Canon relevant on the m4/3 decade when Mirrorless was hot stuff, as Canon had nothing to compete and everyone talked about the future, so they bought that one decade with it and had few extra years time to develop R system.
@benjamindover4337Ай бұрын
This is the biggest problem camera companies have today: Their main market strategy is making sure customers cannot buy a camera that does what customers want it to do.
@paristoАй бұрын
@@benjamindover4337 That is the same problem that mobile phone manufacturers had from 1990-2007. The greatest advantage that Apple brought to whole mobile phone markets, is that everyone focused their models in offer. With Nokia, market leader of > 42 % share, dominated by offering you a 7 versions of the phone model you wanted, but none of those had all the features you wanted. So you were always weighting compromises that what you need to give up, as you don't want to buy a multiple phones with you. But same time, the whole market became boring, and form has stuck to one, and every year you get a new version that you either take or leave it. The only good side is that we have finally got standards. Like USB-C for charging. You have acceptable cameras in each of them. The Android is backward compatible for long time (can't be said about iOS, as your hardware becomes obsolete day the support ends and you can't anymore download new apps to it as a new buyer). ILC's have always been about the system. The attachment system that combines body and lens to camera. And the way how things are sold, does not really form a proper tier system. Like, how about having cheap models like E-M10 that are tiny and lightweight, but have almost all the same features that top models like E-M1X has, but it just isn't as capable? Example, both can record in log and so on. But cheap can do only in Full HD and expensive in UHD? Or both can have same Live features, like Live ND and Live Composite etc, but similarly limited by buffer size how many frames can be utilized. Both have same sensor, same electronic shutter, but other has just more RAM to buffer those 200+ frames before slowing down, where cheap one is limited to 30-50 frames buffer. Now you have just some features denied completely. If overheating is a problem, then limit something, like instead 120 FPS video recording set it to 25/30 FPS only. Instead 400 Mbps video, limit it to 80 Mbps.

The phones killed off these cameras. The camera makers are just counting their last few days for their heavy ass cameras.

Hi Tom! I'm glad to know you've moved to Canada and that you're happy in you new home. But I hope you've brought Georgia with you. Otherwise, I'll unsubscribe.

Canon EOS M fail only because Canon never really support it. EOS M50 is extremely popular but canon kill it anyway.
