These are exactly the pockets that I want on the Summer Caye/Flat Bottom Flo mash-up pants that I've been working on. I love it when I think of something I want to do and somebody (usually you or Karina Trinidad) comes up with the solution. Thank you, Whitney 😊

Anytime I have to add any length try a pattern (and I always have to add "sewing tall"...I just use ¼" graph paper... Avail at most office supply stores on either desk blotter style (really handy if you like designing quilt blocks) or in padded paper. It's so much handier than using a ruler.

That is a really good tip! Thanks for sharing! I'll have to get some ordered!

I love your ponte Glissandos. Both of your outfits are great (I would love to have them). The shirt you made with the ponte pants and the sweater you are wearing in the picture showing you wearing the Glissandos. Did you make the tan sweater? I love it and would love to know what pattern iti is. Great job and very inspirational.
@TomKatStitchery9 күн бұрын
No, I didn't make the sweater. It's Ready to Wear and I ordered it last year. But there are tons of options out there for sweaters as this. I think the Style Arc pattern I showed previously could be a jumping off point.

Whitney, I am over-the-Moon in love with your “Perfect Ponte Trousers” and you can be sure I will be utilizing your tutorial here to convert my LN Glissando pattern even more (I had already adapted them from button fly to zip fly using your previous tutorial.) I use the full belly front on this pattern to help me with several issues: my little bit of a full belly causes all kinds of havoc when trying to fit trousers, pants, and skirts; my little bit of a full belly causes issues with crotch fit when a full-belly piece is not offered; and finally, because I have no waist-to-hip ratio, without a full-belly pattern piece, any trousers, pants, skirts I make need to be adjusted otherwise my garments “pull” in that area. Without your tutorial here, I would have been spending as much time figuring out how to adjust the pattern as making the garment! And…I love slash pockets so thank you, again, for that tutorial too! Love my Vernon shirts, too, and your stripe version is amazing! I can see this as a top layer, layered under a sweater vest, sweater, or jacket, and a stand-alone classic! You hit it out of the ball-park with this outfit, Whitney! ❤

Thank you Whitney for showing us how to make those changes. Your pants look great. Now to make my own. Pant zippers are not my strong point, so now i'm off to see how to change the buttons in to a zipper.

Great to see a new way to use a pattern. You mentioned sewing stay tape into the crotch curve to stop it stretching out and I was interested. Do you sew that in the seam allowance or does it need to go over the seam stitching?
@TomKatStitchery7 күн бұрын
I just sew it onto the seam allowance. If I think about it while I'm constructing, I'll sew the crotch curve, then sew the stay tape into the seam allowance (next to the crotch curve line of stitching) and then I'll finish the seam with my serger. It can be done after the fact (which I'll do on this pair) as the twill tape doesn't unravel at the sides, but it just doesn't look as professional on the inside.

These are so great. Can you recommend any other Ponte that might not stretch out as much during the day? I have had that happen with ready to wear.😢
@elizabethsevereid762810 күн бұрын
Look for rayon nylon lycra blend ponte. It wears like iron.

I love your trousers . I have question. How do you deal with all the layers of ponte at the waistband ?
@TomKatStitchery7 күн бұрын
I didn't notice it getting too thick at the waistband, but if you are finding that it's getting too thick, I would just grade my seam allowances inside the waist.
