Hi Tom loved your French trip and a glance of your experience of French farming, we live in France on a small holding where life is good and pretty chilled. Yes agree the majority of growers take their combinable crops straight to the local co-op store , where at least it's weighed in so you know your yields but never sure on the marketing or pricing structure. I put a field of sunflowers in for a friend and near neighbour this May now they are over 1.5metres high and in full flower already sold to the French rspb . In 2022 there must of been 10 or 12 combine and baler fires in the area. It got so hot and dry that the communes stopped all combines for 2 weeks as the fire brigades were so busy on fire fighting duties it was impossible to attend most fires. Now you have to have a water tanker on standby ready in case of fire. Keep it up Tom love to see more of you youth in France.

I visited Mont Saint Michel about 50 years ago - there was a shuttle service to get there and back - a huge, ancient ex military Berliet truck. With what looked like old tram seats on the flatbed, completely open to the weather.

Nice change of scenery though northern France has similar weather 😜 glad to see a combine safe from fire 🔥🙏🏼 Lovely memories from your time in there 🤠 always good to see how other countries farm. Less of a rat run in rural areas.

While at farm college they took us to few farms in France. One of the farms grew rice so got to see real paddy fields. The health and safety wasn’t great remember walking across a yard with one corkscrew screw auger.

Love the French trip and the history, I was very confused about the Leics fire engines being out there for a second though! Glad they could save the combine.

First went to Mont St Michel when I was about 10 - comparable to St Michaels Mount in Cornwall. Happened across a V2 Launch site inland between Calais and Dunkirk. Enormous concrete structure, almost cathedral like, and even bigger than your barns. The roof was very thick and Tallboy bombs were used to penetrate it, Le Blockhaus d'Eperlecques.

Ah, the reason why the French refer to European health and safety laws as ‘les Lois Anglais’. Only the Brits enforced them, and we were stopped from having fun like you had back then. Such good memories of falling off the back of a Land Rover as it bounced across a field, while we were all in the back trying to hold on to hay bales. It’s probably why kids today cry when you take them more than 10 feet from an internet connection.
