And for that is why I love so much Tamiya and Kyosho stuff. The Turbo Scorpion alongside The Turbo Optima are my two favourite Kyosho buggies and some of the ones I mostly use in a daily basis. Beautiful spot, awesome car, excellebte video. Thanks a lot Phil!

I got the original Turbo Scorpion in 1987 as a Christmas gift. That started a life long love of RC. I drove that 87 Scorpion for a few years till I bought an RC10 Graphite. I still have it in pretty good shape. The plan was to restore it and it was tough finding parts over the last 10 yrs. That all changed with the rerelease. So now I have a brand new Turbo Scorpion still in the box that maybe one day I’ll put together and put on a shelf. I still think it’s one of the best looking RC cars ever made. Great Video 😀

The nostalgia! Reminds me as a kid, looking through an RC brochure until the corners got fluffy. Dreaming. Action shots, dirt flicking of the rear tyres:)) Your spot on. Just enough power to enjoy the chassis. Other Vacuous KZbinrs would put it on 3S and send it off the biggest BMX jump to destroy it for no reason or appreciation of what it is.

did the same as a kid and watched brochures of the favorite cars that im at the time could not afford and dream about them. its nice to se someone that dont overpower their car and try to make clout of bashing it. im rather as you say enjoy an older rc car with the same or as close to power as it got at the time of that car.

I’ve always been a Tamiya guy when it came to these buggies. Wasn’t a fan of the scorpion, but once I saw the turbo scorpion I just couldn’t wait for it to be released. My first large scale Kyosho! Since then I’ve got 2 Javalins and I’m thinking of the Ultima. I’d say the Ultima would be a good contender for looks!

I'm the opposite. My first rc was a kyosho. I had a few more kyoshos after that, then a couple of HPIs and I've really only recently found Tamiya.

Looks gorgeous, also looks fun to drive! Hoping my Scorpion XXL kit ends up the same way! No beaches in landlocked Tennessee for me to rip across, though, but I will have FPV on it. Can't wait to get it going; the scale looks and performance of these 2wd Kyosho buggies is a huge selling point for me. Wish they sold the Turbo Scorpion as a GP/EP kit as well; I'd be all over one then. My Scorpion XXL's gonna get either a KE-25 or Dynamite Mach 26 for power. Hehe.

The reason I like Tamiya is how solid they sound when running. I mean the only thing I upgraded in my plasma 2 was sealed ball bearings that's it. My electronics are Sidewinder Castle brushless system. With a tactic 3 Channel built-in antenna receiver and transmitter. My preferred battery is usually a 3200 2 cell Venom or 3-cell Venom battery 4000. It runs really solid as long as you don't slam it in reverse you will not grind the gears LOL. Plus Castle brushless systems arm pretty strong so it shows the quality of a Tamiya. I only have the plasma 2 but I'm hoping one day to get more. Great video like always a turbo scorpion would be very nice. Okay have a good day and great build like always, your killing the RC game

Man that does look properly good, a true dune buggy look to it! My first RC car, back in the '80s was the Tamiya Wild One. @@TomleyRC I never did buy a Scorcher, even though I I owned two Beetles as daily drivers, and T2 Camper and a van at different times. I'm definitely considering getting back into racing RC once this pandemic eases as much as it can. (it'll probably never completely go away) I still have my RC10 and RC10 T2, plus a 1/8th truggy that I converted from ic to electric. Hmm, and an X-Ray touring car chassis that I bought used but never raced! Was just checking out the latest RC10B6.2D Team Kit. So much adjustability! And so much money! 😁 Ok, and a Kyoshos Land-Max Subaru Impreza, and recently an FTX Ravine crawler for fun.

Great setup. I like the ESC you selected. The servo is a great value and I use one in my Typhon 3s and it has held up quite well. The Scorpion looks so awesome running on the beach. It's hard to find decent 2wd's that are affordable but the Scorpion fits the bill perfectly. 👍 oh by the way we would love to see it run on 3s. I would think an 80 amp ESC would handle it. ? ?

Got one arriving on Friday. Will be powered by a Spektrum Firma 85a esc and 4000kv motor. Only 2s. Going with same servo, but 20kg. Too much servo can cause brownouts, in my experience.

Saw in a recent video a person mentioned the blue, yellow, orange (a,b,c) motor wires, and he said he remembers it by equating the A,B,C cars to ... bring ...your...own... made me chuckle and now I won't forget to put blue to A, yellow to B, orange to C...lol That buggy looks cool... I'd love to have a couple retro/vintage kits, even the re-re stuff... this would probably have been one I'd have chosen to have, along with something from Tamiya, and an old school RC10/RC10T... I have a B4.2FT buggy, and the oldest rig I have is an XL1 Stampede, it has been updated to brushless, and it's basically the same as the Stampede you can still buy today, so not really anything "retro/vintage"...

@@captainchaos3053 Ha ha! Yes, you're right about keeping one's tip clean. A quick buffing can only do good in nearly every situation imaginable. I still wear the same crash helmet I had at the age of 16. The padding collapsed so I replaced it with high-density insulation foam rubber and the chin-strap has frayed so I sewed a strap from a bum bag on instead. I like the working mans triple threat of electronics I use all of them on different vehicles but I have not put them in on the same build but I like it. You should refer to this combo the “ole triple treat” it’s perfect for vintage fun. I race against this one guy who is always competitive in 2wd buggy and he swears by those red can motors. Everyone else has nice name brand motors but he always beats most of them and me sometimes.

Yes...the performance is so good for the relatively low cost. Not sure it's suited to the beach.. but it's so smooth!

Hey that looks epic Phil. I must get one of these sooner or later. Love the scale looks. I was wondering about your choice of motor and ESC and you did say at the end about the open motor. Mine was never quite the same after I got it wet and muddy and has become rather noisy. Don't think the esc is waterproof so difficult to wash the car down after a run. They were top soldering tips. I am rubbish at soldering so I need to check out the other video you mentioned too. I might have rubbish solder or it might just be me! Is that thing with the GoPro showing the speed on the screen a standard feature? I was just having a look at the menu's on mine and I can't find it. Would be great to be able to do that. Anyway, great video :-)

Yeah, I didn't really think about the motor being open haha. I might change it before I destroy it! As for the GoPro, as long as you have the GPS switched on, you can access various things on the GoPro 'Quick' program. Probably easier to google it than me try and explain here lol. But you'll have it on your new one ;)

Those 13.5's aren't bad at all, raced both on-road & off-road with one. For the money their hard to beat.. btw not sure if that drivetrain will hold up to 3s or not? Love the beach, only wish I had one close to me. Cheers!

I just got one of these but didn't start it yet. How do I know how many turn motor to use? I believe manual calls for 19.5T in the Kyosho brushless motor. Thanks for the video!

Hi, amazing video!! any special cleaning and maintenance care after walking on the sand? air clean and grease bearings? clean with a brush? I want to roll my RC on the beach and I'm a little afraid that it could be damaged by the sand. thanks
