They are fantastic mothers. It was truly amazing to see her care from them. If I breed again (I kept some of the babies from this video, and they are almost mature) I will leave them with mom longer. :) As for care, they are really quite easy: Give them some deep, moist dirt, a hide, and keep them well fed. :)

I have a tip about gnats that might work! Haven't personally tried it, luckily I haven't had a gnat problem in awhile. But a reptile shop I went to would use small deli cups with lids, added cut up pieces of sticky fly foam tape inside the cups, cut small slits in the lid, and voila! The gnats would enter through the small entry and get stuck to the tape. Saved them from having to do several substrate changes a week. Congrats on the scorplings! :)
@TomsBigSpiders6 жыл бұрын
I hadn't tried that one...thank you! I was using the cups with vinegar and sugar in them, and then I put gnat tape around the sides of the enclosure. Finally, I used predatory mites. THAT definitely did the trick. I haven't seen a gnat yet. Lord, I hate those little thinks. Her cage was so full of them at one point, it was horrifying! Thanks again!
@adriannadragon93926 жыл бұрын
@@TomsBigSpiders The vinegar and sugar never fully helped me in the past. I'll have to add the predatory mites to my list in case of future out breaks to try too. Gnats are the worst! I'm glad to have helped give an extra idea :)

I'm one day 16 w/ Asian forest scorplings. I removed most the bark a few days ago to find 5 crickets alive. I prodded one to her and she treated it like a baby by putting her claw down and it walked over it or backing-up but staying flat, not posing. One perished a couple days ago in a half molt. The crickets I imagine, it was the only one out of the hide. Two more gone in there but she's too close to pull them out, she's very aggressive now. So I got meal worms. I already have wingless fruit flies but they don't find them. The worm she immediately caught then held in her mouth for three hours till now where she is slowly eating it. She's not left her borrow yet, just enlarging it. I thought she was supposed to come out and hunt before the babies start starving. Temps are 80-85 f. Humidity is 70+ more like 80. Light is low even in the day. They've been consuming their molts, likely 3rd instar now. The little ones never found the meal worm. I'll keep trying. Maybe nick them a bit first. Wax worms tomorrow I guess, idk why I didn't get them when I was looking at them. They're a lot softer. These are my first so chime-in if I'm doing something egregious or you just have a better way 😃
@napalmholocaust9093 Жыл бұрын
she accepted two more meal worms. I split their tails because she isn't tearing them. Holding one and eating the other. Portion of the first below her. Babies haven't noticed yet.

Congrats...that's quite the deal that you go, Brian! haha For the desert-type scorps, I like to use a mixture of sand and peat. I give them plenty of slides to hide under, and give them some depth if they want to burrow a bit. Water dishes should be quite shallow, and you can mist once every couple of weeks or so right before bedtime so they can get a drink if they want it.

Yes i have about possible 9 pure white almost ones ,, i had to separate them from the mother at an young age because of some cannibalism issues. I have the rest of them in a separate small plastic dollar store side ventilated small box. i am heating half of one side of the box with the substrate moist and giving them a splitted in half cricket so all of them can jump on it if they want to. most of them are still in the white stage and some kinda tanish whitish looking. i plan to use a bottle cap with rocks in it so when they drink they won't drown while drinking. if you have any other suggestions it will be highly appreciated. Hello, Nicola! Your English is great! What kind of scorpion is it? Usually the babies stay on their mother's backs for a while. Once they start coming off of it, you will have to separate them.

I know you said you wish you could have left them with mom, so how long should I leave them with mom? She hasn't given birth yet but I want to make sure they stay with her as long as needed 🥺
@TomsBigSpiders3 жыл бұрын
Hi, Zane. I would have left them for a couple molts and until they started spreading out. Good luck with yours! I still have four of the babies, and two of them have been together since birth (they are now about 4").

Sand doesn’t work for these species?
@TomsBigSpiders6 жыл бұрын
Hi, Michael! No, it doesn't They love to burrow and need some moisture, and the sand just doesn't hold a burrow.

No worries! I has three of these back in the 90s, and I kept them on a couple inches of Reptibark. I CRINGE when I think of it now. Doing great, bud! School's been busy as heck, but it should calm down soon? How're things with you?

Tom Moran things are going good. Very busy with work as always. Just surviving in this crazy world we live in now. Other than that, being a dad to my son and a dad to all the T babies lol

This crazy world, indeed! That's why I try to ignore the news, buddy. The state of things just brings me down. I pretty much just stay home with my family and use my spiders as my escape. haha

Nice scorpions. I just got a tailless whip scorpion and vinegaroons, do you know how to sex them and to care for them? I live in South East Asia. Thanks.

@@tennesseetarantulas5129 I know how to sex scorpions but this whip scorpions are different. The seller told me they're girls though.

Hey, bud! For the vinegroon, I give mine a few inches of coco-fiber/vermiculite mix, some cork bark for hides, and I keep part of the substrate damp at all times. It also has a small, shallow water dish. I originally had mine kept more dry, and it seemed to prefer a bit of moisture. They will also do some burrowing if provided some sub to dig in. As for sexing, I'll have to research that one. I honestly don't know!

Dude, I wish you had an email, but I’m sure that’s the last thing you need...58,000 emails asking “what are the best T’s to start collecting?”! 🙄 My question of the day is (if you can/want to answer?!)...Being from St. Louis, MO, I hear a STL/Chicago (Midwest) accent...am I close?! 🤔
