Sean Browne from Yamaha was kind enough to invite us to their launch event where we got to see Matt Halpern and Tommy Aldridge play the all-new Yamaha Live Custom drum-sets (full oak shell). These drums sound amazing and getting to watch two amazing drummers play them was a nice treat. Enjoy!

Well said what’s important is the accuracy. Which he certainly delivers. When combined with such a long stroke which is where the volume or power comes in. The combination is really what makes his playing unique...... 😎👍

Tommy admits much of his movements are part of his show, because he plays "arena rock" and tries to entertain people in the nose bleeder sections as well as first row. If you ever hear him talk he's such a nice down to earth guy, totally grateful to have had such a successful career. Classy guy, all the way.

Yeah, great performer. Tommy doesn’t have much studio work past Black Oak... Highest profile gig was with Ozzy. Speak of the Devil was outstanding because Tommy embellished Over drum parts already established by someone else. Bark at the Moon was a noticeable difference from the drums on Blizzard and Diary. This is why Carmine Appice was on the tour for a period. Discuss!

The dude's a human metronome. He definitely has more stage presence than most any drummer of the last 40 years. Loved his work with the Pat Travers Band, especially on the Heat in the Street album.

Percussioneer - bottom line: when someone's time has passed, it's best to acknowledge what they did, move on, let evolution do it's thing. He was good for his time, but there are so many drummers now, including me, that's looks at this as quant and cute. It's old fashioned and very limited compared to guys like: Coleman, Weckl, etc. Like Buddy Rich always said: drummers that don't play good, go into rock... haha:)

Tommy, who used to live here in Dallas Texas, made Black Oak Arkansas look good. Although their music wasn't very complicated or interesting I loved to see their lives show simply because Tommy was pumping every bit of their sound up. He's great! Long Live Tommy Aldridge

I like how his kit is simple and straightforward like that of Ginger Baker's in his Cream days - two mounted toms, two kicks, and two floor toms. And the snare of course. And man, those cymbals!

he was a drum here of mine with Black Oak back when. When I was in high school I got broken Evans two-ply 20" head (from one of his floor toms) from a friend who worked their show. I cut the broken ply off and used the other one as a bass drum head on my 20" Gretsch kit. Awesome drummer - great memory!

This is hard rock drumming people!....This tune did not call for "dynamics or Breakdown sections" or playing traditional grip with brushes! If you want elevator music drumming, go to the jazz section of KZbin! Then we will all be happy! Different strokes for different folks. Why is it such a crime for some critics for a musician or artist to just really shine at what the artist does best? It doesn't have to include every style, Feel, genre, or lick known to man to be great! It just has to be great at the one thing that it is. lighten up and enjoy life. It's incredibly short!

I love jazz music, but I also dig Tommy's playing. Went to one of his drum clinics years ago in Dallas. I remember first seeing Tommy in the Blizzard of Ozz tour with Randy Rhoads on guitar and these two were phenomenal. They stole the show. I couldn't believe how Tommy managed to twirl his sticks continuously while playing the entire show. Yeah, Ozzy hung in there, too. Tip: For double bass drummers, Tommy's trick was to lead with the left foot. Great advice from a master rock drummer.
