After killing his sale, Tommy (Chris Farley) has an emotional meltdown.
FILM DESCRIPTION:
Saturday Night Live star Chris Farley had his first starring role in this frankly lowbrow comedy, which teamed him with fellow SNL cast member David Spade. Big Tom Callahan (Brian Dennehy) is the street-smart owner of a company that makes auto parts, and one day he'd like his son Tommy Callahan III (Chris Farley) to take over the business. Trouble is, Tommy Boy is a fat, dim-witted slob who took seven years to get a business degree and has no idea how to run a business. His father's sudden death unexpectedly puts Tommy Boy in charge, with his dad's weasely assistant Richard (David Spade) trying to guide him. However, what no one knows is Big Tom's wife, the young and beautiful Beverly (Bo Derek), married him only for his money while holding on to her lover, Paul (Rob Lowe), whose presence she explains by telling people he's her son. Beverly and Paul are waiting for Tommy Boy to run the company into the ground so they can take over, sell it off and earn a quick payoff. However, what Tommy Boy lacks in smarts (and hygiene), he makes up for in determination, and he hits the road with Richard for a long sales trip in a last ditch effort to rescue his father's legacy. Tommy Boy was a major hit that turned Chris Farley into a screen star; sadly, died a little over 2 1/2 years later.

I knew Chris Farley's work even before his untimely end in 1997 and I have to say that I can see why Melissa McCarthy cites him as her favorite and one of her comedic influences. She's basically using Farley's humor and making it her own. She even said that she once met him when she was still working as a barista at a coffee shop in LA. He was on his way to work and she served him.

@@Lazyboy5298 She was okay in Bridesmaids, but it worked in that film because it wasn't entirely focused on her. She was a supporting character. Pretty well every film she's been in since has had her as the central character, and she's nowhere near Farley in terms of physicality, delivery, and overall presence. Fortunately, she hasn't been stinking up any films that are of any interest to me. And it kind of seems like she's fallen by the wayside anyhow. I don't wish her ill or anything, but I wouldn't complain if she called it quits. She's got her millions. I'm sure she'll be all right.

I was born in 1986 and remember growing up as a kid on Farley, Spade, Sandler, Robin Williams etc. I have been a big fan of 80s and 90s action movies to more so then some of new movies that have coming out recently.

Because Tommy Boy's a surprisingly effective dramedy. Even this scene's kind of sad - in that funny way. You're witnessing Tommy being driven to the point of near-suicide because of this lumped, sudden responsibility upon him to live up to his father and singlehandedly save the company.

It wasn't an intentional suicide. He got caught up in drugs, by some people around him. I read his biography, and a lot of it was him trying to be like his father. It really is a terrible situation, and the person he was with when he started to die, stole his watch and left.
