ALTHOUGH I HAVE FEATURED THEM SEPARATELY, TOMMY BUICK AND PETER HNATIUK WERE SOMETHING VERY SPECIAL IN THIS GENRE OF MUSIC WHENEVER PLAYING TOGETHER. PLEASE ENJOY SOME OF MY FAVOURITES FROM THEIR RECORDINGS WHERE EACH NUMBER HAS PETER SINGING AND TOMMY PLAYING THE VIOLIN. THESE TUNES ARE VERY FAMILIAR TO A LOT OF PEOPLE AND SOME ARE LIKE STANDARDS IN THE INDUSTRY. THE NUMBERS ARE : THE WEDDING PRESENTATION MEDLEY, THE WOMAN DRIVER, SYVA KOBYLA KOLOMAYKA, E SHUMIT E HODIT, YE BYK VDOMA AND KUBASA.

Nobody plays like Tommy, he just had that special "tone" which nobody can really emulate

If you like this style of polka's, utube Steve Myk, DVA SKRIPAKIH. Steve was my brother and we played Winnipeg and from Brandon to Fort Francis ont. to Gypumville and east to Lac du Bonnet in manitoba. Steve also played occasions duel fiddle with Tommy. This is his tribute to Tommy.

Thanks for all of your info. I only met Steve from your family but a very fine musician he was.. Glad you enjoyed my KZbin pager. In case you never seen it,I have Steve playing -"Live" in Dauphin for a Malanka back in the 90's with Nestor and Linda and "Family Love" band.

Tommy and Peter were born in Valley River and Venlaw areas, adjoining districts northwest of Dauphin. Their sound is very special indeed, indicative of the Old Country but a different tone and swagge in a new country, Canadar. Recording technology was still pretty primitive in the late 50s when these recordings were made, but Tommy (Boyachuk) Buick's soulful violin and Peter's easy country vocals are something special indeed - - -

Thanks for sharing all of your info for these artists.. They are 2 icons in this genre for sure. Its very special how these little "pockets of the Prairies" produced so many great musicians. We are all blessed that they left us their memories through their recordings..
