Tommy Emmanuel and Jerry Douglas stopped by the Fretboard Journal and performed this blistering take of "Choctaw Hayride." This is Douglas-penned tune that originally appeared Alison Krauss & Union Station's 2001 album, 'New Favorite.'
For this tune, Jerry is a playing a custom Jerry Douglas Signature guitar from Beard Guitars, while Emmanuel is using a new Maton guitar.

I seen the likes of Rob Ickes and as good bc as he and others are, I'm always coming back to things like this that makes me think Jerry Douglas is #1. I've listened to him for many years and Josh Graves before that, but Jerry Douglas makes it so appealing with so many influences to draw from. What a great instrument in the hands of a truly great musician.

Agreed. I am definitely not a well-rounded dobro student. I basically just listen to Jerry and try to sound as much like him as possible. The other players are technically very good but I don't hear the soul that I hear from Jerry.

While there have been many fantastic players to come on the scene over the last 40 years, the Mount Rushmore of Dobro masters is and always will be Brother Oswald, Josh Graves, Mike Auldridge, and Jerry Douglas. All were innovators who were responsible for taking the instrument to new heights and introducing the world to sounds nobody had ever heard before. Everyone since has just been doing their best to sound like one of these giants.

When I was 15, I damn near broke the cheapest import dobroacoustic you could buy, and raised the bridge to turn it into a slide dobro. It kinda worked. I don’t and will never sound like jerry, but holy moly this man inspires me so much. Tommy Emmanuel is on another planet.

That is my favorite Dobro tune. I heard Jerry do that YEARS ago and it as been my NUMBER on since. Great job I loved it. When I'm out on the Harley driving down those back roads this is the tune that is playing.
