Tommy is crazy. If you listen to more of his live stuff, he never does it the same twice. All improvisation. And such an awesome and humble guy. Love him!

If you haven’t seen it already Rick Beato’s recent interview with Tommy it is perfection. I thought I’d watch a few minutes and then come back to it later because it’s almost an hour, but he was so genuine and entertaining I couldn’t bring myself to pause it.

Tommy is one of those very, very few people who can do whatever he wants on a guitar, whenever he wants. He's just in another league. I've seen him up close (really close) at some very small, intimate gigs, and got to chat to him afterwards. An incredibly humble man, full of praise for other musicians and very generous with his time. No demons, only angels.

I consider him like a mad scientist on the guitar. There are certain structures in the song but a lot of what he does improvises along the way. Just like Stevie Ray Vaughan, Tommy has mastered the instrument to where the music flows through him and the guitar. Some of the chords that he plays together no one would think of playing and are sheer brilliance

Lolol he has a basic chord structure, in that sense theres a plan. But when hes by himself like this he can make stuff for days. Also, he did that to his guitar with a screwdriver so it would make that noise. He considers himself a percussionist first lol I'm not lying
@AAA-cd4sq4 жыл бұрын
Yeah I once heard him describe himself as a drummer who also happens to play the guitar.
@ebenclukey72934 жыл бұрын
He's not just killing a lead. He's killing bass, rhythm, drums and lead. And add in a vocal to go. To answer your question, Yes. It's his choice. He could play it note for note every night, just like this performance. But he'd be bored. Tommy is the most skilled guitarist who has ever lived. That's not only my opinion, but the opinion of legends like Les Paul, Chet Atkins, Jerry Reed and others. If you look up on Google "Who's the greatest guitar player of all time?" You'll get Jimmy Hendrix. This is why you shouldn't put any faith in the internet. Jimi admitted after hearing Terry Kath of the band Chicago, that Terry "blew him away". No one who has lived or is alive today could out duel Tommy note for note. So Tommy has an idea of what he's doing here, but he can do what ever he wants at any given time. He's not a master. He's the Grand Master of guitar.
