Very very good hands .Luca. I studied with Sonny Igoe, Tommy's father, and there's still more to that warm up that he (Sonny) showed me. There's two more varitaions to the paradiddle section and more flam exercises. Plus I added a flam triplet exercise. three flam triplets with the flam accent on the first note of each, then three with the flam accent on the second note, then three with the flam accent on the third note. Then you return to the flam accent on the first note. You'll find that in playing three triplets for each accent that if the first time around the flam is left right the next time it is on the first note it will be right left

Thank you! Very good flam triplets exercise! ...what about the variationes to the paradiddle section?
@macvoutie7 жыл бұрын
RLRR-LRLL 2 times, RLLR-LRRL 2 times, RRLR-LLRL 2 times ...repeat. You can also mix up the order in which they're played. The other paradiddle exercise is just like the one you already do except the accent is on the note before the doubles as follows... rLrr-lRll, rlrLrr-lrlRll, rlrlRll, lrlrLrr
@macvoutie7 жыл бұрын
I also added rolls starting with a 3 stroke which is actually a drag with the double open. Then on to 4,5,6,7,8,9,10,11, all (including the 7 stroke) starting with either hand.

You can also do the flam triplet exercise using Swiss Army triplets

Awesome!!! 👍 How long did it take you to play that fast?
@lucacasagranda380610 ай бұрын
to be honest I've never studied this warmup from slow to fast - I mean the usual way - because I've discovered it when my technique already allowed me to play that fast. Many years spent on other material...rudiments, marching etc...But I really like the sequence and I believe it's a really good way to improve your technique - of course starting slow to gain control on your way to getting fast. Be patient and enjoy the process, the results will certanly arrive! good luck!

Hi Luca, just came by again, it’s always a pleasure both for the ears AND eyes! The thing I struggle most with are.. doubles. 😑 Do you have any tip how to improve proper doubles?
@lucacasagranda38068 ай бұрын
@@stefanmuller3435 start playing doubles with your fulcrum only (thumb and index)... understand the fact that two strokes are made with just one single wrist movement...it's all about rebound control...when it's done, add the other fingers but don't change anything about the sound and the rhythm...that's the basics! Then you can utilize all the fingers to play stronger doubles but don't do it if you can't play proper doubles with your fulcrum...enjoy and good luck!

Your finger control with those singles is insane! Would you post any exercises or do you have any tips to develop that? I just discovered one by Stephen Taylor that I just started doing, but your control is definitely something I aspire to achieve.
@lucacasagranda38064 жыл бұрын
Thank you! Oh man...too many things to say about the finger control...I've got tons of exercises that I use with my students Trying to say it as simple as possible: - focus on rebound using the fulcrum - obtain steady rebound JUST with the fulcrum in french position, you must gain this! - add one finger at a time...the movement of the stick must not change! - it's about control, not speed! Relaxed control first...relaxed speed second! If you want to know more on that, write to me at drummerluca@gmail.com :-)

Thank you! I really don't know ... actually I've never studied this warm up for a long time because I've studied so many different materials over the years ... I'm old ... haha haha...the only new exercise was the paradiddle variation...a beast! ;-)

Friendly suggestion: Vary the volume, (soft, medium, loud), make left and right hands sound exactly the same, and then this will be more musical and really good (it’s a long time ago so I’m sure you’ve gotten that together)-Tommy seems to play everything loud-that’s not music
@lucacasagranda38063 жыл бұрын
I agree! That's the best way!

I hate to be the better of bad news, but a lot of these rudiments are played incorrectly....or sloppily and it's covered up by speed

I don’t understand the paradiddle-diddle variations 😕
@lucacasagranda38064 жыл бұрын
It's not a paradiddle diddle varation but just paradiddles variation paradiddle with an accent on the second note: r L r r - l R l l - r L r r - l R l l double paradiddle (accent=capital letter): R l r L r r - L r l R l l - R l r L r r - L r l R l l triple paradiddles: R l R l r L r r - L r L r l R l l - R l R l r L r r - L r L r l R l l Everything's thought as 16th It's the most unusual part of the warm-up...weird! Try to memorize the paradiddle Then the double...maybe practicing in triplet it's easier...then as 16th Then the triple makes no problem good luck....start slow and have fun!

kzbin.info/www/bejne/qoaYkHiBmrNjr9Usi=VvnP5ym12F0_s_e_ As musicians, it's extremely important that we listen to the original version..... It's also only respectful to listen to The originators.

As impressive as the speed and energy is,it covers up some mistakes in the way you're articulating the rudiments..... Let me use something with quarter notes. It's much more interesting and more musical

What’s that fiddly stick spinning stuff at the beginning? Silly - just get to the business - you’re too good to waste precious energy showing off stick fiddles.
