You are absolutely right David. Instead of trying to sound more powerful and spectacular than Tommy K (which would probably turn the song into a parody) our Tommy chose to show what this song means to him. His old cover from years ago was already great, but this was even better, passionate and emotional. I was hoping for a new version for such a long time and I'm really happy he finally did it. A song that touches me in a very emotional way, although i only understand a few words of the swedish lyrics. ABBAMAN... Never heard this song before that sounds like quite an epic song for your country. Was the song written for are used for a special event or something? In any case it's a good recording and Tommy does an Ace job with this. He never disappoints😊

It was Sweden’s entry to Eurovision song contest in 1988 so not any more special event than that. But today it is used at funerals and in the world championship in handball 2023 Sweden used it as their song at games. It is also a part of an addition that was done to the Swedish hymns book for more modern songs. There is an English version called Unchained Light and also a rewritten lyrics for Xmas “Sprid ditt ljus”.

I think Tommy's version is more powerful in some ways than the original. It is not only Tommy's powerful voice but also the way he made the music arrangements, which I definitely prefer. Hello Mylord, I just love it so much when Tommy sings in swedish. It has a different more personal tone to it. Plus I like swedish 😊. Tommy knows how not to overpower a song.
