“The keen sense of responsibility and devotion to duty displayed by Sergeant Prince is in keeping with the highest traditions of the military service and reflects great credit upon himself and the Armed Forces of the Allied Nations.”
A more unique episode that focus' on Canadian Military history and one of the lesser known heroes if WW2 and Korea.

Tommy Prince's greatest feat was at Monte Majo, where he single-handedly in a night mission eliminated several layers of German machine gun and artillery gun pits arranged on the slopes of Monte Majo. This had to be done in complete silence to avoid alerting the German defences. The 1st Special Service Force followed this mission by Prince with an assault on Monte Majo, where they advanced to the summit of the mountain without firing a single shot, thanks to Prince's success in dispatching the German gun platoons. This action was not awarded a medal because it was classified information and an award citation would have compromised the secrecy and surprise necessary for these actions. Unbelievable achievement.

On his reserve north of Winnipeg & very close to Selkirk, the band office and local school connected to it, his name & rank are in huge letters that you can literally see from miles away. Superb!

Thank you so much for recording this, podcast Ashton and Riley. I am Sgt Tommy Prince’s youngest daughter. I find your discussion and approach very refreshing. I think knowing my dad’s story as a civilian, I think he did have PTSD, and possibly as a result he did suffer with alcoholism. I know our families struggles, and the results were horrible and sad for all of us. Our family was torn apart, and we were separated out, that truly despite all, my dad did the best he could under the circumstances. I have heard little stories here and there from my late mother, Verna, and of course my older brother and sister of things they remember of our family life. Even when we were placed in foster care, how generous and loving my dad was with us when we could visit. However, sadly, I myself don’t remember dad very much being a very very young toddler. I wish I knew more. So it warms my heart to hear a podcast such as this about him. Thank you so much.❤

Hello Karen. Your father is a personal hero of mine. He served our nation with such honour despite all that happened to him in his youth and after his return from war. As I was learning about the Devil's Brigade almost a decade ago, I learned his story and it was through that research I found out about residential schools and our nation's poor treatment of our indigenous peoples. I am thankful for his service, but moreover that through his story I learned about the history of our nation that I wasn't aware of. With the schools in the news over the last few years I have learned more, but again he was the person that brought it to my attention first. His character, honour, and dedication to his people, his family, and our nation are beyond inspiring. All the best to you and the family.

Congratulations on the recent honour to your late father, the postage stamp from Canada Post. Tommy Prince was the most extraordinary soldier in Canadian history. His deeds were unique. Perhaps his greatest feat of arms was at Monte Majo where he overcame large numbers of enemy in complete silence, allowing the mountain peak to be taken by the 1st Special Service Force. This was an unmatched achievement, and received no medal, which is unaccountable. From my reading, it seems that he should have been awarded a high medal for this action. He stood for respecting the traditional Crown treaties of the First Nations and his views were vindicated decades later by the Supreme Court of Canada rulings in support of the treaties.

My father would drink with Sargent Tommy Prince and he was scared on his face, which scared me. At that time he was a drunk like my dad. I lived on Sargent Tommy Prince Street in Winnipeg, where racism was something I experienced, and didn't care.

Oh yeah Canada one of many countries that do not take care of their veterans one of my family members fought for Britain in South Africa was awarded the Victorian cross and he went The same way as this man and the lies and cover ups and still to this day vets are suffering! It's a shameful some gave some and some gave all and so many vet's when you thank them they don't want any of IT and say that the real heroes are still over where they fought! God bless eh

A lot of graves were now found of children. So the truth is now coming out. So many children are now being unburied. Just hope these children are now being brought home.
