I hope at least one person sees this, but: How realisticly these characters are written is astonishing. There's no real distinct "villain" or "hero", but both Techno and Tommy have reasoning behind their actions. Techno made his intentions clear from the beginning, so in his mind (and mine aswell) if Tommy didn't agree with it, he should have left from the beginning. He gave up little bits of him to make Tommy feel secure and keep him safe, but then feels betrayed because he was left by one of the few people he trusted. He blew up the country because he's always wanted to, and now he had even more reasons to do so. But Tommy has done so much for L'Manburg. He's one of the founding fathers! But then he is exiled for wanting the discs back, even though he rightfully deserves them. Tommy is then manipulated by the person with almost all of the power on this server. The emotional toll that can have, especially on someone so young, is very great, which can explain his strange and unpredictable behavior. Techno knew that Tommy cared deeply about L'Manburg, and to Tommy, Techno actually blowing the place up feels like a betrayal. Tommy switched sides because he knew he couldn't do what Techno wanted to, even though it might have been quite overdue. I find this so invigorating, because there really is no right or wrong side of the argument, just more fighting. In this story there isn't a hero. Really inspirational!

Yeah yeah yeah another technoblade apoligist. The fact is, he never made it clear whatsoever to the dream smp members that he wanted anarchy, and therefore no betrayal was committed because they didn't know what they were doing. It anything, it was a huge misunderstanding than an outright betrayal. Also, technoblade's notion of anarchy is wrong on so many levels. The only reason jschlatt came to power was because Wilbur, Tommy, and Tubbo thought it was fair to make an election. And they themselves weren't corrupt. It's just that they had bad experience with Americans which is why they needed to warm up to them a little. However, things got very rushed when they decided they wanted to be kind and hold an election for L'manberg. Maybe they could've done it later when everything was maybe settled. Also, governments can exist and not be corrupt (example of this: L'manberg under Wilbur's, Tommy's, and Tubbo's rule). And even though he wanted to, if L'manberg was ACTUALLY gonna go fully corrupt and collapse, THEN HE SHOULD'VE JUST LEFT L'MANBERG AND LET IT HAPPEN. L'manberg ain't his problem! He's got his anarchy ways to attend to away from L'manberg! So there you go. I will edit this once I come up with more reasons technoblades character is A DOOOOUUCH!

exactly! i completely agree. I think that depending on what streamer you’re watching, different characters are portrayed in certain ways to make them seem more heroic or antagonistic, which is why find it really cool that dream doesn’t stream his perspective because it makes it harder to view him as the protagonist.

techno’s “i’m a person” line might just be the single most emotional line in the entire smp. you can tell he really valued tommy, so for tommy to imply that he’s less human than tubbo or some discs definitely would be painful.

I agree with everyone that Tommy’s reasoning is all over the place and I find it hard to listen and side with his arguments and actions in this and the recent streams, but I feel as though it stays true to what his character has been through. Tommy is fresh out of exile, has gone through horrible manipulation, and is now being thrown into yet another war - of course his character is going to be wildly scatterbrained and have round about arguments. Even he doesn’t fully understand what he’s trying to say. He hasn’t healed yet.

I feel like in the end of the day, it goes down to the miscommunication of their feelings. Watching both of Tommy and Techno’s pov shows this. Tommy’s character seems to genuinely think Techno as a friend and called Techno “the Blade” as a official nickname, not a weapon. People who only watches Techno’s pov would not know that a big apart of Tommy’s character is giving people nicknames and would not intentionally objectify them. To Tommy, Techno is the one and only person who can even hold the *title* of *“the Blade.”*

The whole joy of dsmp is that /no one/ is ever completely in the right or in the wrong (except arguably dream, though even then, ymmv) Tommy and Techno’s relationship isn’t a black and white issue, they both have understandable reasons to feel betrayed by the other. Saying “Techno is right and Tommy is wrong” (or the reverse) is just. Such an uninteresting take to me, and it misses so much of the moral ambiguity that makes dsmp and it’s characters so unique. Like you can have your cake and eat it too y’all! You can be a techno apologist and a Tommy apologist ~simultaneously~. And even if you don’t like one or the other for whatever reason, u shouldn’t use that as an excuse to ignore/misinterpret the nuance of the story.

Tommy tunnel-visions on his own objectives and ignored Techno's desires. He took valuable items and refused to return them. Heck Tommy chugged Techno's gapples outside of combat! Tommy might believe that Techno was his friend, but he takes more than he gives in any friendship.

Rp analysis: Tommy never agreed with Techno to destroy L'manberg! when Tommy was living with Techno, they avoided to talk about it EVERYTIME it came up because both wouldn't agree with the other. They always changed the subject because they knew if they talked seriously they would realise they couldn't be friends. And I think they really wanted to try and stay friends but in the end Tommy would never sit back and let Techno destroy everything. They both knew they will end up like this eventually. I love the character development of both and I don't think there is a side to take in the betrayal. For me it was very clear from the beginning Tommy will fight for his belief, the same as Techno and they couldn't stay on the same path because of that.

If Tommy wasn't selfish, he would've let techno destroy L'manberg because of their atrocious act of trying to execute the one man they feared and hated. And Technoblade should have been more compromising because he knew that it was his fault that Tubbo died during Schlatt's reign, but he didn't even flinch when he was reminded of it. They were both the villains and heroes of this saga.

And Techno did say he intended on destroying L'manburg. He has always said that from the get go and then last minute Tommy decided Techno was the bad guy after everybody else betrayed him and Techno took him in. I dont think Tommy's character was bad. But had he stuck by Techno he would have had time to talk to him and persuade him in another way. Honestly techno's viewpoint in this makes a lot more sense to me than tommy's. From the moment techno joined, everyone tried to use him for personal gain and whenever he tried to do anything himself someone ended up getting hurt. Whereas tommy has wanted the discs since the beginning but still values them over his friends, and proceeds to paint himself a victim a lot of the time. I shall now write an analysis on why Techno was right when he said he was just considered a weapon Nobody, nobody except Phil and Ghostbur were actual friends of Techno. Wilbur only became a good friend of Tencho when he became Ghostbur, he never had a friendship with him after a war. Tommy only had a friendship with Techno during the wars, and he always hated him after Schlatt told him to kill Tubbo at the festival. When Tommy found Techno’s house and saw everything he had, he literally robbed him. Techno wasn’t happy about that, but he gave Tommy a chance and even showed him his bunker. He gave him access to all of his supplies, and gave him armour and a special helmet. Tommy became very friendly with him after that, but he still betrayed Techno at the 1v30. Techno was ready and willing to fight the entirety of the server for Tommy, and he was just betrayed. Techno has never had any real friends on the server, except Phil. Only during wars would anybody think of Techno, but not as a friend. As “The Blade”. After the war, they would thank him and go back to their lives. Nobody regularly vcs or chats with him ingame, and he’s left on his own quite a lot. Thank you for reading my analysis :D
