This is an old interview from the Radio One rock show from waaaay back in April 1989, which was the main outlet for rock on the radio in the UK back then. This interview is by the late great Tommy Vance who was a pioneer for UK rock music all through the 80's and beyond!! Here, he talks to Metallica legend and drummer Lars Ulrich, about different songs, and about the making of the bands video for 'One' etc. He also breaks the interview up with a few Metallica classics which i've left in for authentic quality, just like the tape noise :-D I worked out from the few timeline clues in the chat, that this interview was done in April '89, as you will also work out for yourself when you listen! :)
The recording is off an old cassette i've had since I was about 14 in 1989, but I didn't record it myself back then, I got the recording off a friend, and transferred it to a tape of my own. Fast forward about 30 years...WOW that long? :o and I find the tape again, then buy a USB cassette walkman to transfer it to my PC to make an MP3 of it (then a video) and here it is in all its 30 year old glory. It brought back some great memories for me listening to this, as at the time of this interview, it was when I was just getting into rock and metal music, as a teenager myself, starting out with the mighty Iron Maiden, then of course the mighty Metallica, and a whole stackload of other fantastic bands since!!
Anyway i've waffled on long enough now, I hope you enjoy this recording folks, and as far as I know, it does not exist anywhere else online, so consider this a valuable and historic piece of Metallica history...and I hope you appreciate it, as it took me ages putting it all together with the pics too, but it was a labour of love for sure :-D
Keep it metal folks \m/
