Review of the Honda Monkey 125 which was kindly lent to me by the guys at Honda Maidstone - www.maidstoneh...
Wow what a fun bike the Honda Monkey 125cc is! The first time I became aware of the Honda Monkey was when I attended my first charity run last year and noticed a few of them mixed in with the sea of more traditional motorcycles. The Honda Monkey put a smile on my face straight away. It just looked so quirky and different. The Monkeys tiny frame, tiny wheels and how it was dripping with charm left me wondering what it was actually like to ride.
You will hear from the video that I was giggling the instance I got onto the Honda Monkey. There is just something about it that makes you feel like a big kid riding it. The Yoshimura exhaust on the one I test road no doubt contributed to this feeling as it sounded awesome. After filming the video I also got to hear an Akrapovic exhaust on one too which sounds equally awesome if not better though hard to tell as only heard it starting up. If the Honda Monkey is a bike you’re looking at I would definitely say to look at exhaust options.
In terms of riding the Honda Monkey had more umph behind it than I thought it would. Town speeds area doddle and on faster roads 50-60mph is fine. Top speed I achieved on the Honda Monkey was 73mph which was very impressive considering my 90k+ of weight on it.
The seating on the Monkey is also a lot more comfortable than I would have thought. I’m 6ft and it felt well proportioned for me. Yes it was small however not uncomfortable. The only struggle there was that the mirrors didn’t come out enough for me to have good vision behind me.
Handling around town is absolutely fine. Out on twisty roads it’s ok however tighter turns with a bit more speed and I didn’t feel as stable as I would have liked. Not a problem though, its just a case of going a bit slower and reducing lean angle. Shorter/lighter riders may feel more comfortable there.
Overall I would say a really good bike. If I was a 17 and needing a bike to get to college and around town I would definitely consider the Honda Monkey as an option. It has also been crowned the best 125cc motorcycle 2019 by The Bike Market - www.thebikemar...
The Honda Monkey 125 comes in Banana Yellow, Nebula Red, Glittering Blue or Shining Black. Today I test rode the Honda Monkey in Banana Yellow which I think I would go with or the Nebula Red.
