Grandmother eventually left for Pakistan probably for another evil . Almost Similar story when Madhubala’s father stepped in to destroy Madhubala and Usuf Khan ( Dilip Kumar) love affair ,that was not religion but father’s pride.

They couldn't outright say that they didn't want their cash cow to get married off and stop giving money to them. Suraiya’s Wikipedia page talks about this in more detail.

This b& w video is from a classic movie Mirza Ghalib (1953) produced and directed by Sohrab Modi.Actor Bharat Bhushan had played the role of Mirza Ghalib in this movie. Those days , most of the Urdu poets used to sing praises of the Mughal King Bahadur Shah Zafar to earn ईनाम from him ,but Ghalib used to write about the common man. This video shows him returning as a sad poet from a mushayara where none appreciated his Kalaam. While his palanquin passes through the narrow lanes of Delhi ,he is surprised to hear a dancing girl ,role played by actress Surraiyya, singing a ghazal compiled by him. This ghazal has at its end, the wonderful couplet इश्क पर ज़ॊर नहीं, है ये वॊ आतिश गा़लिब, जॊ लगाए ना लगे और बुझाए ना बने Surraiyya was a good singer.Music director Ghulam Mohammad had composed its melodius soundtrack.
