That’s what I love about. Music isn’t a great! These these guys… I mean, they’re also completely different. From different countries, different generations, different different languages. But sit down in a chair and put a guitar in their hands and it’s fucking magic. Just imagine that you go out in the woods, you cut down a tree you turn it into a guitar and put some cat guts on it at 400 years later music is better than ever.

I never really cared for the guitar because I would only hear it in "rock and roll" music ( and I love all instruments ). To me the way B. Pizzarrelli & J. Pizzarelli and Joe Pass play is THE WAY this instrument SHOULD be played. It's the songs, too, of course that they play. All so soothing and yes they make it look so easy. SYLVIA - FL 07-14-2018
@MarkBlackburnWPG4 жыл бұрын
Yes. Well put. Especially the "so soothing . . . they make it look so easy." The great ones always perform artlessly -- you watch and think, "With enough time, I could play like that." Oh no you can't.

A lovely, fun, swinging performance of a pretty, bittersweet tune, by four of the best guitarists on THE PLANET! Note Bucky's right hand, his picking hand: It is so stricken by arthritis that he cannot open it. Fortunately, he can still hold his pick, and his left hand, his fretboard hand, appears to be half his age.
@valwiz187 жыл бұрын
Hello Tommy :) Years ago I lost my left hand movements in a motorcycle accident ... In fact, at the same age as Django ... The joy and pleasure that you and Frank transmit when they are playing made me learn to playing with my right hand ... Today I have my group of gypsy jazz and we pass on to people the same joy that you and Frank transmit ... Thank you for everything and God bless your musicality. Greetings from your fan in Brazil :)

For reasons I can't express -- my favorite comment here is YOURS. Thanks for sharing Vallério Wiz I see you hail from the most musical nation on earth. They named their international airport in Rio after someone I always call 'The Cole Porter of Brazil' -- Antonio Carlos Jobim. Life long guitar heroes hail from there -- Luiz (A Day in the Life of a Fool) Bonfa. His 'Batucada' Chet Atkins and Lenny Breau included on their Standard Brands CD. Just as an aside both men, Chet and Lenny told me on separate occasions (in 1971) that they considered each other "the greatest guitarist in the world." Oh yes, and Laurindo Almeida. Playing solo accompaniment on Sammy Davis Jr's album of Broadway standards. And accompanying Sinatra on my favorite Sammy Cahn / Jimmy Van Heusen song, I Only Miss Her When I Think of Her -- but you knew all this. Left a note of my own on this day when we learned of Bucky's passing. 4/22/20. P.S. Brazil's latest gift -- maybe my favorite living finger-style virtuoso -- is Walter Rodriguez Jr whose versions of standards have attracted millions of views. His chord sequences are artless perfection. I told him recently the word that springs to mind is "coherence" -- everything flowing perfectly. Walter makes it look so easy. Check him out, you may agree he is the best ever from Brazil.

I awoke today to a dozen tiny birds in my backyard. It snowed overnight and I'd spread some birdseed on the green grass yesterday. The 12 quickly became 20, then 30 . . . now more. I said to my wife: "Someone we love must have died." It's a coincidence that this only happens -- a dramatic number of birds instead of only one or two -- at the death of someone dear to us. My best friend's Mom, our parish priest. "Let me just check online." Last night I'd shared a note with Australia's greatest living guitarist Tommy Emmanuel. And first thing there this day: "Rest in Peace Bucky Pizzarelli. Thank you for all the music, your service in the War, your friendship and encouragement, and your divine love of playing the Guitar! Have fun with Django and Les! love Tommy x" Such videos bring out the best in guitarists' "comments" Including this informed answer to the question: "Is Tommy playing a Martin 00-15?" Benjamin Velte 3 years ago It's [a] 00-17 but from the 30's. It was given to Tommy by Chet Atkins who got it from Arthur Smith, who recorded the original "Guitar Boogie" with this guitar!

What I love about Bucky in particular is that he's 91 now and still playing and loving it. Still has the enthusiasm and love of playing he had as a youngster. I'm sure Tommy will be the same way. Tommy if you read this I'd love to see you do a rendition of "An Affair to Remember". It's a beautiful tune but sadly gets overlooked in the guitarists's repertoire. There's a lovely version of it by a Japanese pianist on youtube.

Yes. By my second-favorite composer, Harry (Salvatore Guaragna) Warren -- who still holds the record for the most No. 1 hit melodies -- 21 (correct) for almost as many artists. You'd know dozens of them. And given your appreciation of great, overlooked melodies, I just know that you love my favorite of his THERE WILL NEVER BE ANOTHER YOU -- my go-to song when I take a Gibson down from the wall at the guitar store.
