I knew someone who I went to school with who was an active Latin king. I last saw him when we graduated and the last thing he said to me was “you’re gonna see me on tv one day, stay safe bro I’ll see you” 5 weeks later he was shot in the face and died by a rival gang. Sure enough it was on the morning news. It’s sad, he left behind his girlfriend and his 1 year old boy. It’s very unfortunate he didn’t stop even after having a child, we all just want to live peacefully day by day.

The Latin Kings were founded in the Humboldt Park area of Chicago in 1954 by Ramon Santos as the Imperials, a Puerto Rican progress movement with the goal of overcoming racial discrimination. With the Latino community facing constant violence from Greek and Italian greaser gangs, the Imperials merged with various other Puerto Rican and Mexican street gangs to form the Latin Kings. They would later devolve, because Mexicans turned it into a criminal enterprise operating throughout the United States.

As a native Chicagoan, somewhat older at 33 and grew up in north Lawndale “holy city” and south Lawndale “little village” this shit is spot on, the part about not kings not being racist and true and false, it depends on the situation and what’s going on. I went to Farragut high school in little village and was cool AF with a few Latin Kings and I’m black‼️ I’ve been on 26th shopping hella times and never had a problem, if you obviously not banging and bringing trouble, you come though on 26th and it’s all love💯

But as far as getting robbed, you don’t run a business on the side of the street in a “hood” “favela” “barrio” and expect not to be robbed at some point. Regardless of what “race” the gangster is. They run from their country to escape violence and poverty just to come to another dangerous country with violence and poverty. The violence is just less extreme in most states here as it can get in central and South America. But being racist towards your other people because of a language/culture barrier won’t help.

I find this true because I use to work with ex convict's who are Mexican in their 40s to 50s still effing around. But both places are crazy in thier own ways. It’s racial between Mexicans ( gangs ) and Blacks ( gangs ) in LA and Southern Cali than Chicago .. there’s some here .. moved to the W/S Jungles from Humboldt Park in the 90’s .. that racial tension wasn’t as bad as I’m hearing now

@@lilkidd3886 shag hair is a thing with asian gangs down here and the dudes in Northern California. The young dudes out here now in the south all have edgar cuts while the older vets shave thier heads.

I've lived in New York City for most of my life. However, I was born in Chicago (1943) and moved to the east coast in the early 1960's. I'll tell a story: I had a good friend who was a Latin King . . . not gonna give his name. So one day I drove him to his Methadone program and waited for him. We then went to a bar called Bishop's on Damen Avenue around 17th Street. They cooked some ass-kickin' chili, and I said "Bro, you've gotta try this . . . shit is freaken excellent. Bishop's also served root beer from the tap. We had a great lunch. After that I took a spin to the neighborhood of my birth in the Humboldt Park vicinity; I wanted to score a bag of weed, and I drove to the cop-spot. In the meantime my friend's Meth had kicked in, and he was major nodding out. While some dude was handing my purchase my friend came to. We drove away--and he said "Bro, do you know you could've gotten us KILLED? I'm an old semi-retired King, and that block was a no-no for Kings . . . a different gang lived there." My friend was wearing what we in NYC call a "Ginny TEE--called a 'Dago Tee' in Chicago-ese. For the uninformed that's a tee-shirt with no sleeves. Bottom line? ~Bottom line is my friend had a tattoo on the front of his shoulder, halfway toward his chest, and it was clearly visible--a crown with the letters LKN (Latin King Nation). If the dude who sold me the weed had seen it--we both would have been blown the f**k away.

He wasn't lying, I've had 5 near death experiences this year alone, just for having long dreads, even thought I don't even dress urban... its worse now a days people are out here looking to kill just to kill, no reason to hate the next person no more, just a desire to be as tough as a rock.

He would of sold you the weed and told you not to come back, don’t be naive. Drug dealers are businessmen, gang bangers are different
