One of the best singers of all time, so many people underestimate morten harket. This version was used at the end of deadpool 2

Firstly thanks for reacting to aha. Ive been an aha fan since i was 16 in 1985 i’m 53 now and still a huge fan of theirs. Aha are a very underrated and unappreciated band from Norway with a huge back catalogue and i hope you’ll check out more of their music. They have a song called summer moved on and Morten ended up in the guinness book of records for the longest note held something like 15-20 seconds it’s worth a listen to. Thanks again and take care.🏴😘🇳🇴❤️

Yay! I’m so glad you reacted to this. Morten Harket is still amazing (this was 2017). His head and falsetto voices have the richest timbre - those high notes are so warm. I agree the way he sings this totally changed the feel: more melancholy - the original seem more a playful pursuit, and this seems more unrequited longing. And you got the root note you were looking for right at the end, lol. He does hit a higher note in the studio version, and I know he can still do it; I think it just doesn’t fit the whole intimate mood of this version. I strongly suggest checking out Hunting High and Low from the same session to hear more of his range, but my favorite is The Sun Always Shines on TV. He does this one as a duet with Norwegian singer Ingrid Helene Havik. It absolutely amazing. You don’t need to do a reaction to those, and I promise they are worth the time. Cheers! P.S. - You also know he could probably make any of those 50-year old women in the audience faint with a look and a wink too, lol.

I agree with all you said but do not like the duets in this unplugged, actually I rarely like duets of Morten as far as his songs are concerned except with Anneline

If you like this you should give Memorial Beach album a go. Haunting, melodic. Didn't like it at the time ... Now I think it's their masterpiece. Listen to 'Locust', you'd never believe it was a-ha could release something so dark.
@annalisatramarin55172 жыл бұрын
When I first listened to Memorial Beach and Locust, I felt Morten's low notes like small drops from heaven. His voice can express an immense range of human feelings - sadness, melancholy, happiness, love, passion, fragility, tiredness, strength, courage, fear, hope, pity, desire, tenderness, etc. You can find all of them both in A-Ha's songs and in his own.

Cheesy 80’s, no. A lot of excellent bands are from that period. It’s also the decennium of disco and I didn’t like most of that disco. And punk came also which I hated even more. Not all punk, there were a few bands that really could play music like the Clash. Don’t forget the NWOBHM movement with Iron Maiden as leader. Heavy metal reinvented. Synth-pop bands like Eurithmics, Talk Talk, Ultravox etc. Just reading the title brought this song back in my head which means it’s a good song

A poor choice of words I feel. I didn’t mean the 80’s were cheesy. I meant this kind of sound from the original were quite cheesy. Of course there were a LOT of amazing stuff out in the 80’s.

@Northern Ear, one day I will really have to take you up on your distaste of "''glitter' of a commercial pop song". I don't know if there's a generation gap or a muso gap here, but I would like to address this when I have time to corral my arguments. By the way, if it seems like I'm always yapping at you, it's because I think you can take it. I do enjoy your channel. Stay strong and stay safe.
@ThomasJ_Music4 жыл бұрын
Please do! Not sure what the gap is, but there’s defo a disconnect. Probably age gap. Up until about 2003 I was listening to stuff my mum and dad were into (50’s and 60’s)
