Tommys Museum Tours U17

I finally got to visit the U17 in Speyer in early April this year. Its not open to the public yet but managed to video it. There was strong wind so sorry for the quality.
U17 weighs 500 tons, is 164 ft long and 29ft high. active from 1973 with a crew of 22. It had 8 Torpedoes and 24 mines, 10 knots submerged and 17 knots surfaced.

Hi Windy, it was a bit windy at the museum hence the noise. I am sure they will make it open to the public one day. These are not very spacious Subs so it may be a bit awkward to walk through it. HMS Alliance in Gosport is much larger and that is a bit tight inside. Cheers, Paul.👍👍🙏

Hi James, I have an RC U-Boat and a big interest in visiting Subs when I can. I also have a RC Corvette for use in my pool during the summer. It gets too hot in my attic in summer for running trains so its good to play with the boats. I will upload some videos of the Steamers in the museums in Germany very soon. All the best, Paul.👍👍🙏

Hi Paul, Yes a shame about the wind noise but up close you can see the engineering work that goes into to them and thinking how cramped it must be for the men inside will be nice if you at some stage can visit again and go inside and if you did at least wind noise would not be a problem. Hi Robert, thanks so much for watching and commenting. I have waited a year to go and see U17 and had hoped it would be possible to see inside her but at the moment its just a static displa. This is a relatively small Sub and as you said is surely quite cramped for the crew. This is my fourth visit to the museums in Sinsheim and Speyer and useually go in April but this time it was very cold and the wind was strong. My new Mobile phone suffered a failed memory and display while there but luckily I took my old Samsung so managed to get film of the Steam Locos in the museums. I have been able to retrieve some filming and had the phone repaired so a few videos of the Locos to follow. I was taken very ill on my return and thankfully feel better so can catch up on all the videos from fellow modellers. I hope to trial my Sub next month now its been repaired and modified. Hi Chris, many thanks for your kind comments regarding my health and recovery its much appreciated. I am getting better so hopefully can start making videos of my layout soon. In the meantime I have a couple of videos of Steam Locos in the Museums in Germany where I went in Early April. I aslo bought a H0 Fleischmann Steamer while there and hope to feature it in the coming weeks. Subs are part of my hobbies and was happy to be able to see the U17 in person, its a relatively small craft compared to other Subs of that age. I hope my RC Model U-Boat works well this summer after I repaired it over the winter. All the best, Paul.👍👍🙏

Hi Anthony, I have waited a year to get to the Sinsheim and Speyer Museums and have wanted to see the U17 in person. I have made some videos from both Museums featuring mainly Steam Locos to be uploaded soon. I was taken very ill on my return from Germany and to make things worse my newest camera lost a lot of memory and the display stopped working luckily I took my old Samsung as well so got enough filming. There was a Railway Museum in Heilbronn which is now closed so sadly couldnt visit. I will visit the Technical Museum in Manheim next time it looks very good. Cheers, Paul.👍👍🙏
