So glad you’re back with RIFF RAFF! Great chat with Tomo Fujita (and you were in my hometown Boston). His Berkeley College of Music background is fascinating, as those he has and will connect with is sooo interesting. His mention of your rhythm skills is spot on. Your professional looseness, that New Orleans laid back feel comes fluidly natural to you. Interesting stuff about Japanese music too. Can’t wait to hear you guys jam in the second Episode with Tomo Fujita and thanks for doing it soon! Such great RHYTHM chat. His experience is amazing, fun to listen and learn a quick lesson. Tomo’s smile is JOYFUL as the meaningful way he discusses music. His students are fortunate. Good episode Shane!!

My brother got me a year subscription to Tomo’s lessons. I’d go through them and be like omg I’m so beyond this from theoretical stand point, so I’d put it off. When I’d get stuck in my playing I’d go to the lessons and I’d go through it kinda half ass. I’d have these moments where I’d be like wait do i sound like tomo when I’m playing these shell chords or triads. The answer was always nooooo. He helped me slow down… play simple and clean. When you can do that you’ll be able to put more sauce on it.

There really shouldn't be any difference between "rhythm" and "solo" guitar. Playing solo is playing rhythm too. Being a really good musician is all about rhythm. Thanks for the video!!
