When you hit one of these on someone you always get to see their eyes right when they realize what's happening, priceless expression. I guess in Judo everybody would know what this is but nobody knows about this move in low level BJJ. Super fun throw.

And, if they don't know it in BJJ, they probably don't know it in real life, which means it's a reasonable thing to use if you ever have to be in a fight. I really, really, really wish I hadn't bought into the "judo is just JV jiu jitsu" bullshit when I was younger.

I do more BJJ these days but still prefer to try tomoe nage or sumi gaeshi instead of just sitting or pulling guard.

@@Bozothcow that is not a BJJ belt, it is a judo belt probably. BJJ black belts have the red bar

​@@pauloomss ​ It can be, Mendes brothers for example wear an all black belt. It is definitely a judo belt, though. Shintaro is not a black belt in BJJ, I asked him on a recent video.

When I learned bjj delahiva existed but no one used it I liked it and used it but I prefer x guard. I was taught delahiva even then but no one used open guards then not yet. Because it wasn't popular then Marcelo I learned before Marcelo was popular I liked him though anyway I use it but I'm not crazy about it. I was taught a lot of open guard stuff but it was a contingency plan then like this but used less often. He was going to do that roll to the back off one of those. I don't do sport bjj I do reality bjj so I will drop into open guards myself but it's totally different I don't drop into closed guards and I use open guards if they are too big or after failed takedowns. I don't always do it from those positions I do it from more wrestling or backtake or angles I don't butt scoot even though I like Marcelo I never started that habit. Anyway that's interesting. I liked to try x guard after a spear takedown if you know what that is. I had a more original move it was like a double leg position but I would then transition to spear takedown from the rear then x guard. That worked on really wide big guys well. I prefer upper body takedowns but then using open guard at all was before my time no one used them it was like me and whoever was weird. I don't love them but I use them for sure. I use them in transitions. I don't think it's a bad idea. I have blocked punches sparring upside down during knee bar rolls. You can defend yourself rolling under them. But I prefer more direct upper body control. You can use open guards in transition in reality but you can't butt scoot. I don't think you can butt scoot. You'll probably be shot or stabbed. Marcelo changed the art but they forget who changed it and why it reminds me of cassius clay and boxing. People use the style but not the same as cassius. I don't criticize just saying. People use open guards but marcelo used them because he was tiny with big legs and he made it popular. Is that why you use them? I could be wrong I'm just a guy.
