I didn't realise it until Tyler pointed it out in his video. You play with so much dynamics, Tomo! It's actually so perfect for Covered In Rain since the song does have moments when it slows down and becomes more delicate. I wish you went over that in more depth but hearing it in action was enough to put a smile on my face. Thank you, Tomo!

Thanks for this lesson Tomo. This is a great example of what can be done against two chords by a creative musician, and an eye opener to anyone who judges the quality of a song by the number of chord changes in it. John’s mastery of dynamics, knowing how to build a solo, and excellence as a lyricist make this a very powerful tune.

TomoFujitaMusic great song man! I acknowledge how intelligent you are in you craft. It’s incredible and inspiring for me, I didn’t realize he was playing notes from the chord instead of a typical pentatonic shape all of the time; until you said that. It’s beautiful because this song’s chords are very jazzy or to my ear voiced like that. So when John Mayer solos over it, it doesn’t sound like a typical 12 bar blues or blues chord progression. It sounds very similar but very different. Kuddos to you for dissecting that concept!
@TomoFujitaMusic5 жыл бұрын
Like I explained in this video. Basic chord progressions are EbMaj7 BbMaj7 so 4 1 4 1... Its nice to use chord tone (Rt M3 5 M7) He needs M6 to M7 on lower string! Very clever phrase! John enjoys my Instagram posts. I have one more video on this song, soloing concept. Thank you!

@@TomoFujitaMusic I think Mayer's sense of timing and feel gets over looked in many tutorials as most people just trying to keep up with his technique and some breakdowns on how to use Mayer style feel and timing in even simple progressions and riffs would be helpful as a player. Thanks so much for noticing that! We have worked on a lot of rhythm guitar, and dynamics when John was here at Berklee! Easy to figure out notes and rhythm but it's so hard to understand his sense of time, nuances, dynamics deeply. That's what I teach!!

I just cant figure it out and I've been listening to the song for about a week now. I know you touched on it in this video.
