Dude you're killing it! Small tip for the no spin/back spin serve for everyone out there (I think you just forgot to mention it): Stomp your foot on the ground at the moment of contacting the ball. Due to flat hitting vs brushing being the main difference between the variations the sound of the ball can very easily give it away to your opponent. Great video, excited for the next part!

YEAA RIGHT!!

I would say though that making sure to also sometimes stomp your foot on the other servers too or your opponent may see the pattern of you stomping when its a no-spin

If backspin: Push or Loop (short = push , long = loop) If sidespin: topspin the ball If nospin: same as with sidespin If top-spin: top-spin it back / block it (heavy spin = block , not so heavy spin = topspin stroke) In general, if it is long, it is better to try to loop the ball since you begin attacking first. If it's short you should attempt to either add to the spin already on the ball (making it harder for your opponent to attack) or you should try to backspin it (does not work against topspin and nospin). Hope I expressed myself clearly, and if I'm wrong correct me

This is a great video. Thank you. I've recently been having success changing my service philosophy a little based on a tip I got from a more experienced player. Much like your intro, I was doing a million different types of serves & spins. And while variation is important, the server has to know that he will get various spin returns back for their million serves. So instead I've focused on getting a predictable return and just becoming really good at that ball in 3rd ball attacking it. So right now I'd say I'm serving 75% heavy backspin short. Key is keep it low, short & spiny. Force them to push. Intermediate players will often struggle to keep their pushes on the table. If it goes off the table, FH loop that 3rd ball no questions asked. Then just mixed in the remaining 25% of serves between mostly no-spin serves and the occasional say side/topspin serve. But this video is great. Thought you regular backspin serve & no-spin serves look very similar by your motion. Only way I could really tell was by the flight of the ball after the serve. So you're doing good work there. Keep it up.

Topspin serve+fake chop follow through v. Then he can also do weak/no spins with either up or down follow through vi. He also has mastered heavy kick serve…basically very strong fast topspin

Thank you very much for posting all this teaching/tips/techniques ! Your channel is surely one the best place on KZbin where to learn tabletennis properly ! By the way ,there are lot of vids explaining or teaching how to serve in a certain way but none of them explaining the next step , so after the opponent receive how should one prepare to go on with the rally and how to get in an advantage / attacking position . So what should be done after the serve to get a point ? Why sometimes we serve in a very affective way,with lot of backspin for example,but then we don’t win the point? It would be great if you can help me to better understand this ! Thank you any way... keep it up with these perfect lessons !
@tomorrowtabletennisnon-pro10016 жыл бұрын
THX and that's a great suggestion. I kinda mentioned it (like for hook serve u should wait in the middle of the table for the third ball). But if I go into detail it'd be too long. This vid is mainly about serving and I'll probs dedicate another vid talking abt third ball attack.

I'm not even a competitive player by any means, but even I know that it's not allowed to toss the ball anything but straight vertically. Not allowed to hide behind the body like your camera angle suggests. And most likely is not allowed to loudly stomp when serving like someone in the comments section is suggesting. So what's left of this video is: serve with a fast motion but make a different kind of serve.
@tomorrowtabletennisnon-pro10016 жыл бұрын
You're right the rules are the rules. But many pros toss the ball like that, if not worse. The point of contact is usually open to the net in this video. It's just really brief, but if you slo mo it more you can see the contact. And I put the camera far away from (and at the center of) the table and zoomed in, so it might've affected the view. Loud stomps are ok I think. And I mentioned other things like placement, how to serve hook serves, what to do for the third ball attack, and much more. Anyways, thx for watchin.
@elianeoliveira97296 жыл бұрын
Alsazonov Just check ma long serve yesterday in world cup, it would be totally illegal in that logic haha
@jefftimmerberg1936 жыл бұрын
Eliane Oliveira Ma Long's serves are blatantly illegal, but no referee enforces it, just like they don't call travelling in the NBA. However, I wouldn't recommend trying illegal serves in a lower level tournament because you're much more likely to get called out on it
@elianeoliveira97296 жыл бұрын
Sorry Jeff but that just doesn't make sense to me, because it isn't just ma long that do that that kind of serve. I don't believe ITTF would let that much of players do this illegal, in basket is kind different because if the other player make contact it doesn't count like travelling, so it's more likely the referee can make mistakes or make good calls. But in table tennis you got two referees and your opponent looking to your serve, so they would know it's ilegal. The only problem i see in this serve is about throwing the ball back, that ITTF says that must be nearly vertical, but that's is a recent change and the players are making modifications about that
@Error-ve8df6 жыл бұрын
As long as you are able to see the contact at the point of their serve, it’s usually deemed as legal. Also, stomping as loud as you want is allowed. There are no rules against that.

I really enjoyed Indian Wells this year. I think Serena is pushing herself too soon after having such a near-death delivery birth with that GORGEOUS OLYMPIA. But she lost to no one less than her own sister Venus. I really thought Venus would take it. But Naomi Osaka reminded me of Serena and Naomi beat Halep, #1! I guess what I'm trying to say is that was sweetly surprised. And Juan Martin del Potro... most definitely, exquisitely earned it! I was so happy for Federer to remember he's only human and yes also a sore loser. He didn't expect to lose and that is Federer's weakness. Conic truly scared Federer. Baya Naomi Osaka & JUAN MARTIN DEL POTRO! And yes your humility and good sportsmanship. Congrats! Good Indian Wells this 2018!
