Very thorough/clear demonstration to enhance understanding body/wrist/hand motions for each serve effect. However, a lot of peiple don't explore/learn how rubbers/blades (or different combinations of them which is the most intriguing part) can vary ball spin/speed. Equipment plays a very vital part for the game, on top of basic skills/knowledge. Table tennis is a very complicated/serious game (to play properly), vastly different from what people see it as Ping Pong. Now waiting for you to illustrate how to counter your magnificinet seven serves. Picked up some good points here, thanks and congratsl

As a medium level player I can do the tomahawk very well, alternating backspin, sidespin, and topspin, but I absolutely can't do the reverse pendulum. That's the most advanced serve. The backhand serve is also actually quite easy, but I find it useless because the spin and control tends to be much more with forehand

Great video tutorial, very helpful indeed are the slo mo's. It shows exactly in which height you have to hit the ball and how far from the net (on your side) it should be placed. One remark: Unfortunately (and according to the international rules), the left arm is supposed to be completely left out in the space between ball and net I think. So the referee might call this as a point against you (after warning). Am I right?

The overview is greatly appreciated. However, the serves are illegal. 1. The serves are hidden by either his arm or his body or both. 2. His left hand goes below the table during the serve. 3. The serves are not tossed from the palm of his hand. Again, the information is appreciated. I would just like to see coaches adhering to the rules also. Many times people are so focused on winning. As a result, the rules become secondary which in turn can lead to the breakdown of sportsmanship. Have you ever called out someone on their serves? Man, that can quickly become a heated situation...

Hi, I have been talking to the developer of the game Eleven about the toss of the ball. The rules in Table tennis say that you have to toss the ball at least 16 cm. That is not much if you ask me. All your serves in your videos are ten times that I would recon. Can you make a video where you only throw the ball 16 cm just to see how easy it is to think that it is an illegal serve? I have played with a guy in Eleven and his tosses where almost not existent, but the logs show that he did toss the ball 16 cm. Very frustrating.

@inquistive Жыл бұрын
#TomLodziak All of the pendulum serves are illegal. Why? Because the rules clearly state that the free arm must be removed immediately from the space between the ball and the net as soon as the ball is projected upwards and Ferenc is clearly not doing that. And yes, I am a qualified umpire, so please don't teach people illegal serves.
@IcoachTT Жыл бұрын
Also holding the ball with thumb and fingers in cupped hand. It couldn't be more wrong. Pause 4m.03 for the best view.
@TomLodziak Жыл бұрын
So that’s an interesting point. The rule you refer to is this one… 2.6.5 - “As soon as the ball has been projected, the server’s free arm and hand shall be removed from the space between the ball and the net.” This rule was presumably put in place to prevent players from covering the contact of the ball (also addressed in rule 2.6.4). However for some service actions, particularly the pendulum serve, it’s physically quite difficult to move your free arm out of the way as soon as the ball is projected. So most people serve exactly the same as Ferenc. You toss the ball up, bring the free arm back down and then the arm moves out of the way as you rotate into the serve. Maybe Ferenc could move his free arm away a little sooner, but in reality, it’s unlikely ever to be called by an umpire. The ball is visible at all times, so he is gaining no advantage whatsoever. Ferenc has played a lot of competitive matches over the years with qualified umpires and never been called for violating this rule.
@inquistive Жыл бұрын
@@TomLodziakI think your reply has some credibilty Tom but for sure Ferenc could move his free arm away much quicker. Depending where the receiver is placed, there are positions where they couldn't see the ball during Ferenc's serve. Unfortunately umpires are not consistent enforcing this rule and I wish the ITTF would either amend the rule or take steps to enforce it consistently. If I were umpiring a match where a player was serving in such a fashion I would warn them and then penslise them if it continued. One of the service rules is that the server had the responsibility to serve in such a way to make it clear to the umpire that he/she is serving legally i.e. it cannot be on the borderline of legal versus illegal. Apart from the legality of Ferenc's serve, the serves he demonstrates are useful for the watcher.
