Everytime I hear this song it takes me back when I was a child & my dad asking me to listen to it. I remember him telling me "you've never heard harmony like this before & you'll never will again". He was right.

November 1987 I drove this gentleman around England and Wales for a month, and this song and Molly Darling he had missed off his gig list so I asked him at Wrexham to include them. So before he went on, he got the band together and went through them once, the following night at High Lane Stockport he included them, Brilliant!!

The perfect country song. Love, heartache and a jukebox all wrapped up in an incredible song written by the always amazing Tompall and sung to perfection by the brothers.

And indeed it is. Songs of unrequited love and the emotional trigger of a jukebox are powerful issues, but it takes a quality writer to avoid the lazy option. Here Tompall contrasts the soulless jukebox with his pain of loss. He wraps the heartbreak,in case we haven't noticed, in a fiddle and steel arrangement that would make draw tears from a glass eye. A very underrated song, issued as a B-side on a 1960's single. Very few songwriters can write songs of this class, and it is interesting to compare Hank Cochran's great take on the subject - A 11. Buck Owens made that a hit. Tompall and the Brothers certainly deserve everlasting credit for writing, creating and performing a classic of Country music.

I simply love your take on songwriting, my friend. I have been in love with "all things Tompall" for a while. I think he has the most unique and amazing voice, and is the perfect country ballad singer. What I didn't know was that he wrote or co-wrote so many phenomenal country songs. Not until I read his biography (The Great Tompall: Forgotten Country Music Outlaw) did I realize that he had written so many of my absolute favorites. The fact that Tompall, Chuck and Jim continue to be passed over year after year for the Hall of Fame is ridiculous. Every country music fan should be outraged. Their body of work over these many years has surely earned their induction. Nashville needs to make it right, and soon!!

It is a strange situation when Tompall and the Glaser Brothers who worked in Country music individually or collectively for more than 50 years are not even nominated for the CMHF. Tompall has never been nominated to the CM Songwriters Hall of Fame. Whilst they may not have had strings of No 1s, their impact as performers, writers, publishers and producers is considerable, and certainly exceeds a number of names who now are in the CMHF. Whether they offended the great and the good is distinctly possible, certainly likely in the case of Tompall, but time should heal these things and then you come back to an assessment of merit. On merit the case for the CMHF is very strong, and for the CM Songwriters Hall of Fame, when the likes of Jim Weatherly is selected you do have to ask questions about why Tompall has never even been nominated. Last time I looked, Weatherly was a promising Quarterback, so perhaps they confused the various Halls of Fame. Keep up the campaigning Linda, it might take a few years yet. linda donahue

I am very persistent, my friend. Some might say stubborn. This is my passion these days. I have a new angle in calling any country radio station that still take requests and am trying to get the Glasers on the airways, at least one song at a time. I wrote Peter Cooper of the Nashville Tennessean. He graciously replied and told me he shared the same affinity for these artists. He has left the Tennesean and has taken a job with.....the CMA And The Hall of Fame. This can't hurt! In all fairness Tompall should have gone in in 2013 with Cowboy Jack and Bare. I could go on forever but I will just get worked up and I'm tired. Thank you for the encouragement..

From the pen of Thomas P. Glaser. These Nebraska boys were the best harmony ever to grace the Opry stage. This is not as good as the 1964 version on 45 vinyl. But I am not as good as I was in 1974 either.

They wrote it, and the Nebraska farm boys were young and hungry here. This is not as good as the original recording. That was a classic and it is one of those songs that will drive you silly because it will play on repeat in that jukebox in your brain.
