Popped into the farm shop on Sunday. My boy said "are you going to be a fan boy if you see Tom, SO EMBARRASSING" he then bought a hat and said "can't believe I'm going to meet a real youtuber". Had to explain that it was a working farm and you might not be there. Then saw a black lab taking a lady for a walk and I think it was your Mrs P but she disappeared quick, probably because she was avoiding sad fan boys like me. Shout out to the young lass serving the breakfast barms. She was just about to give us ours when she apologised and said she didn't think the sausages were right and didn't want to serve us them. Shows she takes her quality control and customer service seriously. Bacon was lovely as was our first raw milk purchase. Honeycomb milkshake was delicious. The goats outside your mums window were super friendly too. I couldn't hang around because my curiosity wanted me to be naughty and start exploring the farm and our motorhome was blocking your car park. Lytham and St Annes were lovely towns too.

It annoys me when Dr Pol always says Angus bulls are dangerous. In effect any bull can be dangerous when his hormones are going crazy. I understand though that in the USA a lot of the bulls never have much human contact. I have my Angus bull Hercules he is a big big boy and I hand raised him. He loves me and will follow me around. I have fallen asleep on top of him. My brother runs our farm and sadly Herc is not a fan of his. I keep telling my brother to stop singing the Mc donalds song when he goes past him lol
@AlleyCat-1

I had a mini jersey bull that we hand raised. Could lead him with a halter & lead rope, taught him to lift & hold his hooves. And by the time he turned 3, he got dangerously aggressive. Took him over to my folks pasture to service his girl's & then he went from being happy being with the girl's to not wanting anyone around his fence & focused on stalking my dad, the neighbor kid's & then when we brought him back home, same way. We use to love on him all the time.😥 But I think his "brother" kept him in line.

When I worked at my relatives' dairy, they kept the cows in two groups. The one group was the older cows that wouldn't catch with AI, so they always kept a bull with that group. They also had an electronic sorting gate when they exited the parlor, so when we were milking and we saw a problem we could enter into a keypad that would put them in a holding pen for a better check. The farmer could also pick cows that he wanted to AI beforehand and they would be put in the holding pen as well. The funniest thing was it was a rotary parlor and the bull was shorter then the rest of the cows. He liked going around for a ride and would usually be the first one on and last one off. He would duck under the push bar and we had to back him off at the end. It was always a bit of a surprise when you were in a groove and you look up to find there was something other then an udder before you.

Never seen raddle made up with engine oil before but it works I guess! I've always used vegetable oil. Nice idea though, I'd just say your mix was too watery, I'd describe your mix as liquid rather than a paste. Mix it much thicker and it'll last a bit longer plus it's easier to get on. Never seen anyone be able to use raddle and not get themselves covered though so you were bang on 🤣

@Alex2Bucket
@Alex2Bucket Жыл бұрын
Hi Tom. Have you considered using Heat Detector Patches/Scratchies? They're super common in Australia, but cows aren't housed like your cows are. We apply them at the start of AI. Once cows are AI'd, we run a roll of paint over them in the AI race. Then during milking, all we have to do is look for scratched detectors to know who has been on heat since the last AI. They come in lots of different colors so you can always reapply a new color at the end of your first cycle so you can tell which cows are apart of what groups. Have to spend a bit of time to apply them initially, but makes it easy for all employees to see heats. I guess it won't determine whats been mounted by a bull or just another cow though.

All creatures do prostrate to God. Al Quran Chapter 22 Verse 18 So let us give them the chance for them to live so that they may keep prostrating to Allah. Because Allah loves people who possesses compassion to understand these creatures with respect. There is no necessity to eat them, follow Nabi's SAW example, live with the abundance that Allah is giving that is wheat, dates and water. Hadith ref Sahih Muslim If there was no animals, Allah SWT would not send rain on earth. Hadith Sunan Ibn Majah Volume 4019 Even the Prophet desired to be a plant that we can pick up. Sahih Tirmizi Without those animals, the earth would not be able to replenish it's breath.

Taking a tried and trusted fertility marker for sheep and making it work for cattle, ok so you needed to paste more on than usual to see if it worked and by the look of the video it was a 60/40 + success. You seem to have short term memory, as you already had a downer cow from nige trying to service her and specially when those floors super mucky, i just hope nothing happens but just fair warning, back in the day we used pad's with dye in them on the back of cows so when they were bullen we knew when the dye buble burst open. Don't even know what they called been good 30 yrs so don't know if something like that still exist.All it was was a dye bubble and pad and all you had to do was use some special glue stick on the top of the tail and then just watch out for the busted ones.

For the rattle, maybe a vegetable based oil instead of motor oil? Maybe that's a terrible idea for some reason, but it seems like motor oil residue isn't as good for the cows skin and maybe for the muck system. Its a really small amount in the big picture, but maybe someone more knowledgeable can provide better experienced input.

Try a sack, close weave, that can be strapped to the bulls chest. Fill the sack with cotton wadding and string line chalk, your colour choice. You can make the part of the sack that contacts the bulls chest out of leather or canvas, so that the chalk only goes outwards towards the cows rump.
