I'm a Class A Driver trainer. Often we get the question of high or lower. Only you know what your depth perception is. If load is balanced and you have no overhead wires or obstructions, visibility is essential. Imagine adding poor weather to the mix. I vote up. In areas where you are sure of no over head obstructions.

Hi Tom, regarding loader height, lift it to where you need to when approaching a junction to pull out safely, on the road it's best IMHO to have it quite low in line with a cars bumper, the theory is that if a car hits the loader head on it will hit and use the cars crumple zone and protect the passengers in a collision, if you had it high and had a head on with a lorry, well the only crumple zone would be the windshield and the passengers head. When travelling with combines if you ever move one in the road the throat should be again close to the floor again to line up with a card bumper as opposed to the windscreen. Hope that makes sense. Keep up the great videos!

A tip against the ring worm: Take the blackest old/used motor oil from an old tractor in a bucket. Take a brush and paint/cover the ringworm with old oil. When you feed the cows, you can check-and paint them at the feeding gate. Greetings from an Dutch farmer in North Denmark

Being an hgv driver I've been in the situation of having a tractor with a loader creeping out of a side road/farm entrance. Having your loader high and the implement tucked in makes it safer for everyone because its more visible to the driver it also doesn't force us across the white line unnecessarily far. We understand why you'd have it up in the air because you're trying to be safe too. But that's just my opinion with 19 years driving experience

I'm very familiar with high and low. I grew up driving our tractors with loaders.i would always go high when I had to get close up to my intersection for better visibility for oncoming traffic. But almost always drove at speed in the down position. Love watching you interact with your dad. I sure miss those days. Your dad is a riot. Lol

Hi Tom, on the best way to have your loader on the road, I am a devoted fan on raised - high. Some years ago a speeding car ran into my loader and it went to court. With backing from the NFU I won. But I don't want to go through that again. Great video again with your beloved young ones.

If the loader is high, it can only catch an HGV that you'd likely have seen over the hedges. If it's low you could clip cars that you may not have seen and you would still hit the HGV anyway. High also gets seen by cars/HGV's over the hedges as well so makes everyone think about it. High makes sense to me while coming out the farm, once on the road is different story.
@roberthiggins64013 жыл бұрын
That's what I would do too. Once on the road I'd have it lower incase of branches, wires and the center of gravity. In the event of an accident I reckon they'd say any attachments should be put on a trailer.

Great video as always Tom. I was taught by a large agri contractor in early 90's that front end loader should be raised when travelling on road, but in practice I prefer to only raise it at junctions when I can't see (like you) and drop it while travelling down the road as think it is more stable...? In contrast I was told when I did my telehandler certificate (also early 90's) that the arm should always be lowered when driving, even at junctions. Another tip I have is always put something on the forks when going down the road (old bit of drain pipe with holes drilled works well). I learnt the hard way several years a go when I got a big fine (even went to court) for not having a cover on my muck grab forks, even though the grab semi covered the forks. Like you I was only going a mile down the road...!

10:25 regarding to the loader situation. Personally when driving straight down the road I would keep the loader low due making the centre of gravity lower, but when approaching a junction keep it high because the loader won't point out onto the road meaning you can see and you won't take any pedestrians out with the implement on the front. Anyway, loving the videos Henry
