The Way I Feel is a song about depression and how it can change the outlook of our lives and the way others perceive us. Tim Rice-Oxley writes about himself on that one, as is the case with all the songs on the album. Purely cathartic. Put The Radio On is about Tim's affair and how blissful the act of making love to the person whom he's had an affair with was. However, in the song he recognizes that the beauty of that moment fades into what he has really done, which is cheating on the one whom he is married to. The mantra of the song is "Put the radio on so no one can hear" what we are doing in the secret act of our affair. Btw, there are NO guitars on Under The Iron Sea. All of their albums have a unique identity. Would you want them to keep making Hopes and Fears parts 2, 3 ,4, 5? It's important for great bands to stay with the times and create different music so that they stay relevant and unstagnated.

It is so interesting to hear about the impression the lyrics made in a no keane fan person, cause it gives me another perspective of them. I've been a hardcore fan so I can get the meaning behind every song to a point I have lost any other interpretation you can get without knowing certain things about the band that gives them clear context. By the way, UTIS is their best album full of masterpieces, but definitively, not for every listener.

I remember the first time I heard Somewhere Only We Know in 2004 and I was instantly smitten. The debut is great. Toms voice is superb. I love Under The Iron Sea too but Perfect Symmetry and Strangeland are not as good as Cause And Effect which is great.

Keane actually didn't use guitar s in UTIS. The pianist actually would plug in the piano to the guitar pedals, causing that unique distortion sound. Guitars were only used by Keane in Perfect Symmetry and the Night Train EP. They went back to only piano and synthesizers for Strangeland and Cause and effect. i thought id let you know.

Hi from brazil! I love Keane. I used to buy all of their albums as soon as they were released. Under the Iron Sea is definitely one of my favourites albums from the 2000s. As you, I am not a huge fan of their albuns since Perfect Symmetry. I only knew a few days ago they released a new album. That's because three years up to now I started listening to other kinds os music (mostly Brazilian stuff). I've really liked your review. I will listen to the new album as far as I can. Thanks!
