I remember an old motor sergeant telling me that the only way to tell what a vehicle needs is to drive it!!! I am glad you made it home safely and sorry you found the issues you did. Take a breather and dig back in! I am definitely looking forward to seeing how you tackle these issues. I have in the back of my mind the idea of converting my Bronco to a manual transmission if my rebuild C4 ever gives up tue ghost, so I will be paying close attention to what you do with your transmission. Thanks for all you do! Good luck!

Thanks Brian. My road trip seems like a grocery run compared to what you did. I'm for sure going to take a break, but only because I have other things to finish that are on my lift!

I was my brothers arm length away from dying at lake of the woods as a kid. We were up there in the snow and I jump on the ice and went straight through, luckily he was able to reach me and pulled me out.

Great Video, I enjoyed it even though nothing got built! Thanks for sharing your honest opinion and the A-Ha moment, although I already have an automatic transmission, because modernization is part of my planned build. I don't love the look of the Tom's seats, but understand the function outweighing the form on that. I am thinking about trying to find a modern seat, and shave the headrest - which will likely also require new upholstery. I have NOS Beard off-road seats for my '74, but I don't look their look/ style either. I think I saw a video with someone using buckets seats out of Honda Civic. Your bronco looks awesome, the uncut look is very stylish. Glad the foreshadowing didn't result in your being stranded!

@@Halfwheelhell thank you! I agree the look of the seats doesn’t 100% match the vibe but, to your point, I can make the new seats look old someday.. I can’t make the old seats feel new.

That sounds like a fun trip for a major shakedown cruise. Sorry to hear about the oil consumption problem, but I'm glad you have figured out the clutch problem. Now just to find where the oil is going. I'm glad you found some really comfortable seats. It should make driving your bronco so much more fun. You didn't mention it, so I'll ask - were you able to pick up a soft top? I'm looking forward to more Bronco content, but also am enjoying watching Papa Bear come along. Keep up the good work!!
@MattsGarage5 ай бұрын
@@ronbelldvm thanks Ron. I actually bought and then returned a scratch n’ dent soft top. I don’t like how the rampage tops require drilling into both the tailgate and the quarter panel so I passed on that.

I'm actually going to be in Pigeon Forge next week. I'd love to make it back out to Super Cel but I'd need a lot more tweaking on this bronco before I would brave that drive.

I'm curious if you had an alignment done before your trip? I just finished up a total restoration on a 72, and getting it aligned is the last thing I need to do. Mine drives a bit squirrely as well.
@MattsGarage5 ай бұрын
I bought the alignment plates and set the toe-in to 1/4”. That’s about the only thing you can align without getting into the knuckles.
@craigmaverick5 ай бұрын
@MattsGarage Right on, thanks for the reply. I set mine at 1/4" and it was scary squirrely on 37's, so I adjusted it down to a 1/8" and it helped out greatly. I still plan on taking it in for an actual alignment.
