Awesome video! I've had mine for about a month now and as with you, my wife loves that she can easily make her favorite drinks without having to really dive into the techniques for pulling a great shot. One thing I did learn about this machine. It will dose out about 16g for a double shot espresso or milk drink using the "non-pressurized" basket. Since it doses by sensing the tamper lvl, there is really no adjustment (using the Impress) to increase the dose to about 18g. I enjoy a stronger Americano (long black) and milk drinks so this upset me but I found a work around. I bought the IMS H28 18g-22g basket and since it is deeper, using the Impress I get about 20g in the portafilter. Now I'm happy!!!
@TomsCoffeeCorner Жыл бұрын
Thanks for your feedback! I was actually getting about 18-19 grams in the OEM basket, but it might depend on your bean and roast too. But no matter what, I find the IMS baskets to be the best anyway, so I buy them for each machine I have. I like that you can buy different depth baskets, for larger doses. Cheers!
@BruceJamesCobber Жыл бұрын
Have you tried grinding your coffee finer? Afaik your shots should at least take 20 seconds when making espresso. If it‘s taking less time you need to grind finer, in which case you‘ll have more grams of coffee in your portafilter
@timothyhestand9439 Жыл бұрын
@@BruceJamesCobber It takes about 27-32 secs for a double shot at my grind lvl. The shots are great but I like it stronger. After speaking with Breville, there is no adjustment of the weight of grounds in the basket. It only goes by tamper lvl. I solved the problem by getting an IMS H28 18-22g basket. Since it was deeper, it takes more grounds to obtain the correct tamper lvl. It holds about 20g when tamped. Problem solved.

@TomsCoffeeCorner10 ай бұрын
No, you can make them with the Barista Express or Barista Express Impress as well. This machine mainly offers the advantage of a wizard on the touch screen to help those new to espresso. It also has newer burrs, and a great steam wand. But you can make very tasty drinks with the other machines I've mentioned, too.
@jose098414 ай бұрын
I would say the big advantage this machine has over the other machines is the Barratza burrs which grinds beans much finer and creates a better cup of espresso. So yes it makes better drinks and its steam wand is superior to the Barista Express and allows for manual steaming as well. Lastly the machine grinds straight into the portafilter and tamps in the same place and measures the beans based on volumetrics so you will always get a great extraction.

@TomsCoffeeCorner hey Tom, great review! After doing extensive research and comparing Breville machines to Philis and DeLongi, I've decided to go with Breville brand. Can't decide between Breville Touch and Touch Impress. Can you tell me what the main difference is other than the automatic temper on the Touch Impress? Also, I get my Mochas at a local coffee shop...is there an option to make a Mocha on either of these two? Thanks in advance!
@TomsCoffeeCorner10 ай бұрын
Well, the Touch Impress is newer. It has a nicer screen, and a better steam wand. The Impress tamping system is also pretty nice, and it has an updated Baratza burr set in it. For Mocha, we used to first warm up the chocolate sauce in the bottom, then extract a shop onto it, then add the frothed milk, at a coffee shop I worked at. So, I'd select the flat white or cappuccino option, and follow those steps.

I'm so tempted to treat myself to this machine for Christmas. I'm worried in case one part breaks and you're stuck with a big machine. But it would be really disappointing if there wasn't a noticeable improvement in the end result from my current dedica machine, which is better than any cafe bought coffee.

Well this machine is quite a different beast from the Dedica. Tons of options and features, PID controlled, integrated grinder and tamper, way better milk steaming, to name a few. But the Dedica can do quite well with an IMS basket, good beans, and a good grinder. The Touch Impress has the edge however for settable and quite flat PID controlled thermocoil over the Dedica's which has quite a dip in its temp curve.

I find the integrated machine much easier, to be honest. My wife prefers it, and I also like the streamlined workflow. Separates can eke out more I'd say, but the difference for me is not night and day. Also, I mostly like to make milk based drinks. Cheers!

I've bought this machine last week question 1) do you think I can remove the plastic from the portafilter without affecting the sensor for tampering/grinding or what do you recommend as I dislike plastic in there .. 2) my machine is somehow asking to tamper and grind again and again. I thought is gonna remember after my first dial in But is requesting it all times, is there something I'm missing 😮 help
@TomsCoffeeCorner11 ай бұрын
Well, you can try a bottomless portafilter. I use a Normcore. As for the adaptive dosing, I'd suggest choosing a shallower basket. But anyway, you don't have to grind more. If you're satisfied with the amount, you can tamp and call it good. I do that often, to get a 16 gram dose, instead of 18-19.

Watching your videos I buyed it but I regret because my expresso is very very very bad taste...non drinkable without sugar. Any recommendation what type of use beans roasted more or less...more oily beans or not etc. I have a philips 5400 series so expressos with it are not that strong so they can be drinked without sugar too. My expressos with touch impress have foam like yours...but they are too strong and I grind them with 8th option and they start to come within 6 sec and finish with 26-30 sec as per rules but very strong - hard to drink. Also how I can get good foam with automatic milk system - where to put that pipe in that can in middle or middle on near etc. Please give me more details I want to master better of using this machine.
@TomsCoffeeCorner7 ай бұрын
Well, there is a big difference here. The Barista Touch makes actual espresso, which IS strong. The Philips does not make real espresso. So it might take some time to get used to. You could consider using the single basket, to reduce your dose - that might help. I suggest putting the steam wand to the side of the milk pitcher, not in the middle. Cheers!

No, I didn't do the pressurized ones. Those would be good if I had some old coffee, but I don't. Just be sure to grind coarse enough, so they don't get clogged.

I noticed that the tamping on my machine is not that good, at least never even or straight. There is always somewhat moore coffee on the left side than on the rest of the puck. Is this a generic thing, or is it a problem with my machine?
@sophie_______7 ай бұрын
I’m a new user too! And yes i got that as well. There’s another video said you can give the filter a shake before tamping it - which help it to get even.

A shake is not handy. Because when you take out the portafilter, you will always spill some coffee

Ok so i have been using the machine since this morning for the first time but I have a question. Can you increase the temperature of the hot water spout for Tea drinks beyond the pretty underwhelming Low and High options. I have a friend who likes his tea very hot and the high option is pretty pathetic for him. Please tell me there's a way?
@TomsCoffeeCorner Жыл бұрын
Ok, I went and measured today on the high setting and got 73 celsius for the hot water option. But what you could do, is fill your cup with hot water, then steam it with the steamer. That's what I do on the Bambino Plus anyway.

It still varies a bit, and so it might need to add some. Sometimes it also doses too much, due to the variance, which can be annoying.

You can hold down on the espresso button for 5 seconds, to start a manual shot, and you can stop it then when you want. Measure your extraction and aim for 2:1 ratio of brewed espresso to powder, in about 25-30 seconds, as a ballpark figure to start.

Hey tom, bit unrelated to the video but I figured if anyone knows, it's probably you. anyway shots on my dedica are coming out way too acidic even in the regular 25-30 second range. using a ratio of 1:2 and freshly roasted coffee left to degas. Temperature surfing doesn't help much. grinding coarse and aiming for a faster brew time /higher ratio also hasn't helped much. using a fellow opus grinder and wdt
@TomsCoffeeCorner Жыл бұрын
Hi there! It sounds like you're doing everything right. Is that a lighter roast? You can try the steam mode hack: kzbin.info8GO1b94CgN4?feature=share Some roasts in my experience just are on the acidic side though, even for machines that bring more heat. You could try pulling a 1:3 ratio and seeing if that will add enough at the end to balance it out a bit.

Hi! There are so many generic brands coming left and right from China. I honestly like to stick with brands that have established themselves. It's better for finding spare parts, and online communities generally form around well known products. How about the Fellow Opus or Baratza Encore ESP at that price? Those are two established brands.

I'd say that's about right. But that's what ends up in the cup, that's not the extraction temp. It cools down very quickly once exiting the portafilter.

Tom… I need some advice. I have owned a Breville Oracle Touch for a couple of years now. It has been pretty good and a decent WAF. However the shots are very very inconsistent. I can dial in a grind perfectly … then find 2 shots later it is way way off. I wind up having to weigh and time every shot and besides it being a lot of work it is very wasteful. My question is whether you think this Barista Touch Impress might be more consistent and give better results. ?? Thanks .

I don't think so, no. You give up control to the adaptive dosing, and you cannot adjust it. Sorry!

Man thanks for all the amazing review I am torn between the Barista Pro vs Barista Epresss Impress From my understanding, the pro has the better steam wand with 4 hole compared to 1 on the express impress. Also has more grind settings Whats pulling me towqards the impress is the tamping. Like i believe thats the biggest problem with my current flow. no matter how hard i try, my tamp is always a bit tilted as i fail to apply pressure on center. There is always a slight incline to my puck. Impresses auto tamping will resolve that. How different are the steam wands between the impress and pro ?
@TomsCoffeeCorner Жыл бұрын
The Pro has the WAY better steam wand. But I feel the espresso is better on the Express, Express Impress in comparison to the Pro, mainly because the former passively heats the brew group over time.

My new Sage Barista Touch Impress machine arrived today and everything seems to be working fine apart from the following. When putting the portafilter into the loading dock, is it normal to have 25mm - 30mm sideways movement & also some up and down movement. When tamping the portafilter moves slightly up and down? I have not noticed this on your KZbin video. Apart from the above everything is working normally and I have “dialed in” very quickly using fresh coffee beans.
