I used this to successfully replaced the steam wand. Thank you! I also like to share a trick which helped in pushing the white nylon piece into the steam wand easily. I tried using hands and thought it was impossible, I almost gave up, then I fit the piece back into the machine at the original location, push the steam wand right through it while the piece is in place, using the housing to hold it. That was a breeze. Wanted to share this. 😅

this video finally worked out for me! thank you so much!! For everyone who is afraid of doing this upgrade: I am someone with ZERO craftmanship, but I thought to myself „there‘s nothing I can really damage or destroy on this machine.“ So why not give it a try and see how it works out? This video is explained so well that there is no chance of doing something wrong. The hardest part for me was getting the plastic thing on to the new wand. Using gloves + dish soap and somehow it worked

I didn't want to upgrade my De'Longhi Dedica Style EC685.M with a different steam wand, but just replace the old steam wand with a broken plastic end by the identical new replacement steam wand. So the explanations I needed were mostly the same as shown here. Thanks a lot for this video! It is well done, very elaborate and carefully explains all necessary steps in detail.

I just did this today. Took me 2.5hrs where Tom said he took 1.5hrs so I was pretty happy. It was fiddly but the video had all the steps to make me feel comfortable. There was a couple of extra screws not mentioned on the bottom of my model near the water tank. Might be a newer model. Take photos and try and put the right length screws back where they belong. I’m very excited now to learn how to use this steam wand properly.

Thanks for the video! 2 hours and the new steam wand is installed) I have two observations though, which I did not expect from such modification. At first, the steam operation is veeery loud now, but I might be caused by the wrong technique. And secondly, it seems like the machine is now running hotter than before. Have you observed any of these by yourself?

You save us a tonnnnne of elbow grease, numbed fingers and also broken Delonghi clips with this amazing video of yours. Today, because of your video, I got mine done in all less than 1 hour. Note: Tough the white-plastic-elbow holder would never fit reardless whatever glove i wear. Maybe my fingers are not as strong as yours, for sure.... what i had to do: I had to drill it bigger by a little bit (and use some plumber's teflon tape to snug it before clipping in that C clip..... I can only think of this after i watch you put in so much effort during that part of the video. A great heads up there, Tom! Really! Again Tom, THANK YOU VERY MUCH. Love from Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. Just followed and completed!Always wanted to install this mod, but back when I was looking at tutorials couple of years ago, most were either incomplete/non English/or didnt fill me with any confidence... I stumbled upon this video at random as I'm getting back into espresso and decided to buy and Install the rancilio! Very informative and helpful. So one problem I came across which didnt seem an issue for anyone else was getting the plastic tubing off the nozzles (after removing the clip). To my horror I actually ripped the tubing connecting the steamwand to the cassette (luckily there was still enough tube to use once cutting off the ripped part..). So I suppose very patient with this unlike me.. Also, all of the ground clips were really connected on. Like they had been pinched down... so all were a bit trickier to get off than it was on your machine. For getting the plastic bit onto the rancilio... I pushed it from behind with some thinker pliers and it went on relatively OK... took me maybe 45 seconds. Could risk damaging I suppose (again my lack of patience), but worked OK for me. Thanks Tom!

I just did this mod on my EC 865 and the video was very good as a starting point. There are a few things I would add after going through it. #1 the Rancillo wand has a shorter top side so clamping it after putting the tube on there is not much space so not sure if there is a longer Rancillo wand one could buy or just slide the one up higher? #2 Tom is correct the 865 has the one time use clamps so you have to use a flat head screw driver to pry them off. I went and bought a couple of the clamps shown in Tom's video but like I said attaching it to the wand there is not much room. So will see how it holds. #3 Alot of the ground wires now are not attached to the chassis so don't have to worry about that. #4 Just make sure you pay attention on the bottom when you take off the rubber hose that goes to the water tank. there are a couple of filters and a rubber attachment. I didn't pay attention and it took me a few times of taking the bottom off and changing how the filters and rubber attachment go on. Take a picture as Tom says!! Thanks!!!

Just upgraded steam wand on my dedica following your video. Upgrade is not easy, but the result is more than worth the effort. Getting the plastic piece on rancilio steam wand was the most consuming part. I want to point out that the wand is sturdier than it looks, so you can use quite a bit of force without breaking it. At the end, before placing the metal clamp back on, I used wire cutters to create a scratch-ring so that the metal clamp would lock in the place and not slide.

Thanks for that great video. Took me over 2 hours but only because I had great difficulty with the plastic nut over the new Wand. My advice use pliers carefully on the nut plus a bit washing up liquid then it’s fairly straightforward. You need to note the differing screw lengths for the inside of the cassette removal as said by a few. Also the Earth connection deep in the machine is a bit of a sod else all good. Thanks again. 👍

Thanks, this was very helpful but some tips for people with tools: Use the torx bit. Use lube on the Rancilio wand, and vice grips to hold the nut (gently-ish). When taking the screws out of the brew group, note which ones are short and which are long - it's not intuitive. Taking off the hose might be a real bear. I used heat and a lot of force and didn't end up ripping it, but it seemed close.

I would like to thank you for this tutorial and i want to share my experience. After replacing the steam wand i would get an error, all 3 lights would flash after steaming for a bit or after preinfusion. So if you have this issue the solution is simple: let the machine warm up, turn on the steam function and let it purge the air out. It can take a minute or so, but after this all of the air bubbles should be bled out of the system.

Thank you, Tom, for keeping me entertained on this gloomy Saturday morning, you are an absolute legend. Mine was the same series as yours, as luckily, I still had the double wire spring hoses and didn't have to change anything inside of the machine. One thing maybe to keep in mind that sometimes you need quite a bit of extra force to remove the ground vires, especially in the bottom, which is in a bit of a hidden place, so it's not always that easy as in the video, but it shouldn't keep anybody back from doing the upgrade :))

Thanks to your detailed 'entertainment' video @Tom's Coffee Corner, I had no trouble doing this upgrade! It seems on the newer models there are no ground wires to deal with. I noticed that some of the screws in the same location were differing lengths, not sure if this is crucial but I kept track of them anyway. I installed the rancilio wand and this video was very very useful. Didn't have to take photos because of it. I will address some things: - at 10:48 Tom puts the clip below the white nut. This isn't correct, the clips goes above the nut. It needs to be between the nut and the bump. Don't worry about the nut sliding off, the socket and the frame will keep it in place. The clip has a sliding spot inside the machine which helps with the direction movement of the wand. If you put the clip below the wand will spring back and not stay in place. - To slide the nut into the new wand (it's incredibly tight) you can use some olive oil. Just be sure to wash it with soap and rinse it well. - When I tested the rancilio wand the first time it started leaking at the nozzle junction. I got mine on amazon warehouse, but it looked brand new. So I don't think it's a defect. Thing of it as a plumbing connection. I "ruined" the thread a bit with a knife and put some teflon on it. You can tighten the nut using a size 9 wrench. After doing this the wand didn't leak anymore and was good to go. Switching the wand is a bit fiddly, but not too complicated. This video takes you 90% of the way. I hope people see my comment if they are having trouble in the same way I did. Thank you for this guide.

Amazing guide! Just finished fitting mine, thought I'd add another tip for fitting the nut onto the rancilio (which is not as good as the others for a cleaner approach), I ended up getting a pair of pliers after letting it settle in warm water then it made it easier for me as you can just keep turning the wand around like a hand crank whilst having a good grip on the nut with the pliers. I didn't have a pair of gloves knocking around to help with a grip and I wanted to get it done haha. I actually found the clamp to be the more troublesome than the nut personally because my needle nose pliers was slightly too big to be able to pull it off the original steam wand properly, so because of the way I managed to remove it, I struggled to add it onto the new one because the wand is slightly thicker than the original wand. The clamp even came off after fully putting the machine back together but no big deal as the new wand moves around just fine without!

Thanks for the video! I don’t know if we have different rancilio wands or something because it took me 3 hours 😂 Two things that I struggled with and might help someone: 1. Putting back the safety clip into the new rancilio wand was such a hassle, it wouldn’t stay put for me to clamp it with the pliers so it was taking a good 30 minutes until I had an idea: twist a rubber band to hold the clip in place, then clip it and remove the rubber band. 2. Removing the tube from the old wand was “easy” (still took more than in the video! I have an EC785, did they make everything tighter in this one? 😂) - the issue was putting it back on! I tried doing it after inserting the cassette as you recommended but I soon realized it was better to do it outside, because again the tube was super tight on the new rancilio Wand! I tried for like 20 minutes to get it over the little bump as you suggest in your other video so I could clamp it there, but no luck. I decided to put it in hot water to soften it and that seems to have done the trick!!! It’s not an impossible task at all, but it you’re a small woman who is not very strong in the arms you might want to ask a man for help with a few of the steps (your hands will thank you 😂). I tried using it once and it was making a LOT of weird noise - but I think I wasn’t using it properly tbh, being used to the dedica one I just submerged the tip all the way and didn’t give it much air, but by the end I realised if I just hovered the tip over the milk and gave it more air it would stop doing that horrible noise! Really looking forward to practicing more!

Thank you for the great video, very detailed and made the install easy. I was one of the lucky ones with the newer DeLonghi with the braided tube and one time use clips. I looked through the comments trying to find the correct clip and ended up buying a few off Amazon. The spring clips I wasn't sold on as they just didn't have the strength I hoped (there are probably better ones if i ordered more) I also ordered a few types of the Single Ear Hose Clamps. One kit had 8.8 - 10.5 mm clips which I tried and they fell off during install so I found a second set of clips with 7.8 - 9.5mm clips (these are a match to what originally was on it, they had 95 stamped on the side). In addition to the clips I bought Knipex ear clamp pliers (there are cheaper options but I liked the front and side jaws, side jaws came in helpful for the clamp attached to the wand). Make sure to clamp the hose to the wand before putting the case back in, even with the side jaws I didn't find enough room. The spring clips would be easier to use but if the hose comes off frequently the clamping power of the single use clips would be the better option imo. Other things to note: dont worry about the button working until the bottom is screwed on (i had a nervous moment when the button was stuck, attached the bottom with all screws and everything was back to normal) getting the tube on the wand, watch the short video by Tom, in this video the white plastic piece is pushed right up to the steam wand top bubble (not sure what to call it), there needs to be some room on both sides of the bubble/hump on the wand so the tube can go over it. bottom star screws I found a 5/32 flat head screw driver works perfect Hopefully this helps someone, it was a fun upgrade! @@selmansenkalp lol of course it did, so much for my advice 🤣 Were you able to get it working? If the machine is on its side button facing down (against the table) is how I was able to get the cartridge on the easiest. The cartridge will have some play but with a little wiggling you hopefully will find the sweet spot then, at least for me, when you flip it to put the bottom on the button goes out of sync until the plate is screwed on.

Ok... I usually don't comment on youtube videos but now I have to. I have a EC685M and I did manage to do this upgrade... but I went through hell and back for it ;-) I already had a situation at the step where you have to loosen the hose and the white plastic nut part from the original steam wand (managed it with the help of some tools) but then MY GOD getting the plastic nut part onto the new steam wand seemed outright impossible! Having read through the comments before I was assertive for some hard stuff but I didn't expect that I had to figuratively break the laws of physics!! :D BUT I assure everyone who wants to do this upgrade on a EC585M - you can do it!! Don't give up. Use oil/lube. Try the hot water/hairdryer tricks on the plastic nut. The pushing on and edgy surface does help a lot (be sure to protect everything you cherish) - also some precise hits on the the plastic part helped me go around the corners of the wand. Also it helps to think of someone you don't like, while doing this ;-) You can do it!! Thank you Tom for the great instructions! Also, like some others, the new wand seems to be a little too loose after installing... when I pull it towards me and let it go (to steam milk), it just turns right back to its comfy position... do you have a trick for that, that it stays in position?

In the process of replacing the steam wand and the video is working wonders! The only problem is that on my newer version, the hose is surrounded in a braided cord cover and clips that are much more difficult to remove and impossible to reuse. So we'll have to go out and find replacements for those two clips before we can complete the process, but hopeful so far!

It was seemingly the same for my EC260BK model. The clamps you're talking about are crimped pex style clamp - 3/8" I believe. You'll have to cut them off. You can get clamps in the style of the video at any auto parts store and most hardware stores. Cheaper solution over buying the pex crimp tool and clamps. Hope this helps for anyone running into this situation.
