Work was made unwholesome from the industrial revolution. We all just became something to be part of an ugly machine and forced into it because of the inaccessibility to land (here in Britain it was the enclosure act and the privatization of the commons). Before we were artisans and people with the seasons and the land and community mixed in with a deep spiritual connection. Now we are in an empty soulless void of numbers, cheques, and balances. I’ve written a book turned it into a KZbin video called “The Rose Bridge”, it’s all about how we can break out of this and move into a beautiful way of life.

While the advice is sound, let's not ignore our current reality. We are living in a corporate greed crisis. The companies that generate the most profit are doing so through extreme exploitation and price gouging. The base minimum for survival is getting further and further out of reach because gas, food, and housing prices are sky high while workers are being paid less and less. And there's nowhere to run from it! Every single corner of the United States is suffering. Yes, keep an eye on your consumption of cool stuff and live as within your means as possible. "Once i started working my life would be over" this hit hard - I didn't realize when I had finished 11 years of university that I would feel the same way. I was caught in a trap of making money to pay taxes and bills with no escape. Passive income is not truly passive, its a hustle too. So now I opt instead to turn down the noise. I work Monday to Thursday, I leave at 4 pm, take fewer files. The minute I feel rushed I know I am out of balance so I slow down again.I quit spending because if you don't spend it you don't have to earn it. I started work at 13 years old, it was weekend and school holiday work. On weekends I worked on a street market, assisting the owner of the stall in setting up, and then selling their wares from the market stall. They sold underwear and socks. On school holiday times, I worked for a floor laying company, we laid everything from carpets, to lino, to parque woodblock flooring. I started young because I came from a one parent family, and my mother really needed the money to feed us, us being Mother, younger brother, and myself. At 18 years of age, I joined the British army, I served for 6 years. On coming out of the army, I got a job at a butchers shop, I started as a "Butchers cutter", and worked my way up to being a qualified butcher. At 29 years old, I moved from London to Kent, and changed my job to a 7.5 ton lorry driver, transporting soft drinks. At 30 years old, I joined the London ambulance service, and worked my way up to management level, over the next 30 years. I retired two years ago, I'm now 62 years old. I am now pyshically disabled ,being unable to walk, and live my existence in an electric wheelchair. Like you Tom, I did what I felt I ought to do work wise, and like you, I questioned everything, and could never see the sense in why I needed to work to have some kind of existence. Sure, the money paid for food, paid the rent, and other bills. It was the tax that really upset me, I couldn't see why some faceless entity would come along and claim a sizable portion of the money I earned, without sharing in the labour of obtaining that money. I've subscribed to your channel Tom, and look forward to listening to your future videos, thank you.

Wow, even if I haven't worked in a corporate job, I can feel everything you are saying as I have a strong ability to recognize which jobs are bullshit and which are not. I am rebel in my own head and I question the economic model we are living in. When I see people being so busy working 9-5pm that they don't even have time for love, I find it hard to imagine for what these people are even working. Most people are not aware that inflation is a scam, growth at any cost is a scam, GDP growth is a scam. Most of these are manifestation of inflation which is imposed on us by government due to money printing which is propelled by the rich who can take infinite loans and buy real estate (a non-productive asset). Its a matrix, I know my way out as I can see everything from birds eye view.

You get = money.... (which is just a idea???????) The worker PAYS TWICE with REAL AND VALUABLE LIFE COMMODITY The employee gives you a tiny bit back of what you created in the first place, ... I can only last so long at any given job, I eventually fall into a state of zoocosis and need out. The cycle will continue, unless God places me on the path I was always meant to take, and that goes for all of us. I'm at my breaking point with this simulation. This was not meant to be. What art tries to do is it tries to slap you awake by putting the beauty of infinite creation a little piece of it up on display for you on a pedestal so you can look at it and say oh yeah. Of course. Look there it is. It's so beautiful. It's so amazing and then that opens your eyes a little bit and you can say oh yeah look that thing's beautiful too and that's beautiful and that's beautiful and that person's beautiful and I'm beautiful. Oh my god it's all so beautiful and then that takes you to a whole new level as a human being and then you can delight in reality and you can enjoy everything as one giant work of art. I have recently started a new job, and while it is a remote job I understand everything you say in your videos. I begin every week by watching your videos because I feel I need to condition my mind like a muscle to never become comfortable. The life of wage slavery has never been in my DNA as the grandson of an immigrant who was deeply entrepreneurial in her nature. Thank you for your videos and insight, we are all in this together friend. I would also love to see you create a video on balancing hobbies outside of your job. I am someone who sculpts as a hobby but my job drains me so much that it has become harder to do my hobbies since beginning my new job. Everyone always says that you won't enjoy your job but you should enjoy hobbies outside of work, but nobody ever acknowledges the brain drain that a job has on you. Jobs don't want you to enjoy your life outside of work, that's why the pointless 40 hour work week even exists, it's about control not production.

When I was around 12 years old, the great recession just happened, and I could hear on the news how young graduates couldn't find any work. I thought to myself: "Is this how it is supposed to go? I went to kindergarten to prepare for primary school, to prepare for midde school, to prepare for high school, to prepare for college, so that I can get a degree in a field in which the labormarket may or may no have any use? Do I have to work for 12 more years, as many years as I've been alive, for this?" It disillusioned me, and I've been struggling with my life since. Your channel just popped up on my feed. I was a wage slave for about 25 years until the company I worked at for over 20 years got bought out by a larger concern. Having been miserable in my job(s) for most of my work life, I was still freaked out when I got permanently laid off (in my 50's!). Luckily, I was a saver - saving so I could hopefully retire early. Well, I saved and invested and then decided to move to Europe and have a whole different life experience, while I physically still could. So here I am, in Europe, retired and living a completely different life than I did in the US. I guess I should be happy the company threw me out like garbage, because now I am free to do whatever I want. I will be interested in following your channel and looking at your point of view on all of this.

A depression survivor myself, lawyer in a DAX corporation…. I am one of the living dead, but I am starting to live again. I am working on a own business idea with purpose for the society; not sure how it will make money, but at least, I will take the first steps and see where it takes me. Hope to give an receive love and to make our lord happy. I think we need to slow down and start warming up again in this world. You all - may you become happy and feel being loved. Stay authentic, please! You are enough. I highly appreciate your videos. Start your own business besides KZbin - and use your audience to grow. I would be glad to support; I am sure many of us would do so.

I talk with my neighbour every weekend after our running trip about being a wage slave and I use many of your reflections and ideas. My strategy is to save and invest as much money and to be able to feel free to say stop at every moment I want. He need to stop soon but has not invested so much but he cannot continue and will not waste more years on something he dont like.

Although this video is not a feature film, it has exquisite cinematography, compelling and poignant storytelling. The amazing cinematography deftly and beautifully captures the patina of seasons, the passage of time, and varied psychological states. In spite of the fact that you dislike the word “artist,” as it might be interpreted as being pretentious, I’d still argue that your video is a work of art. My definition of the work of art is inextricably linked to its aesthetic, intellectual, emotional/psychological value, and heartfelt experiences that touch the viewer/reader’s spirit, heart, and soul...Furthermore, a work of art facilitates and encourages the viewer/reader to critically question and challenge societal norms and conventional way of living/thinking.

Thank you so much. Regarding that word artist. I just feel like, if I was to say "hey i'm an artist", it just doesn't feel right. But I don't have a problem saying I'm creative. Maybe there is some imposter syndrome at play there. but thank you for sharing your thoughts about it. Really made me happy to read.

I can totally relate to entire my life, feeling like I was put on this earth to struggle. Especially the inner voice that try’s to put me down. I’ve never considered myself an artist… I jumped into corporate sales but really only love playing music. At first was happy with having a professional office job but in a few short weeks hated it. Always feel something is lost! Stuck in the cyclical, make more money, daily routine. It really is a rigged system! Chase your passions! Life matters more! My Jack Russell terrier.. tells me every night….to just Quit my job! :)

Thats interesting, music. I once was into making music myself. But I had zero talent :) but with the Internet today, I have to ask, can't you have a side hustle around your music? Even I sell music (!) and trust me, its bad.

Worse, the US government has convinced you that your pay is taxable - because it's "income." However, it's an equal trade. You trade your time for money it's worth - there is no profit. The government should only be taxing profit - not wages.

I too have the affliction of having to understand the ‘why’ in anything I’m asking to do. This is torture in a corporate environment because often there is no ‘why’ other than to justify other people’s employment. A prime example is creating extra tasks just so that we can create an objective to monitor the outcome of a pointless task, to allow managers to have statistics to hold meetings about the performance of the people carrying out the pointless tasks. Madness

The most significant word or theme in your video is “Potential.” It is worth noting that many ideas and thoughts that you’ve mentioned in this video share some striking commonalities with ancient Greek philosophers such as Aristotle and Socrates. Aristotle proposed a concept that has intrigued thinkers for centuries - Eudaimonia - the quest for human flourishing. In essence, Aristotle envisioned and thought of life as a quest for something greater than mere survival or ephemeral pleasures. He suggested that the ultimate goal of human existence was Eudaimonia, which meant “well-being,” “happiness derived from living a life in congruence with reason and virtue,” or “flourishing.” He believed that achieving Eudaimonia was similar to fulfilling our potential as human beings. He thought that work was a mean to an end and that Eudaimonia should be life’s raison d’être. Socrates’s well known meditation on life is “The unexamined life is not worth living.” He was iconoclastic since he did not believe in the gods in whom the city believed. His mission in life was to seek the truth to the answer to his question. Tom, I strongly believe that you will be successful in the objective that you have created for yourself, as you are intelligent, creative, hard-working, and a deep thinker, and you have an inquisitive mind and versatile skills (technical and conceptual thinking).
