Great video of the machine , but a few pointers for the beginners here that I feel are extremely important. As someone who’s been making home coffee for over years with machines ranging from £20, all the way up to £400, I cannot stress enough these are to. So the amount of grounds and especially the “Tamping” is so very important and actually has a massive effect on the coffee taste and quantity (hence you speak of a bitter coffee, this basically means if bitter you have done something wrong with the Tamping) So measure the right amount, and tamp with quite a bit of pressure, this is the most important part regarding taste. And takes quite a bit of practice. So great rule of thumb, the tighter the Tamp, the more bitter the coffee. So like I say practice to get the right amount of grounds and the right pressure applies to tamping. You should get a serving of coffee running at about 26-30 seconds., to little or to long effects the taste of your coffee, it’s that simple. This part is something you should take care of as it’s what makes the actual taste, you should be able to drink a smooth rich espresso right out the machine when hey the correct amount and tamp correctly, otherswise you will get a bitter horrible coffee. Just spend time learning this part is how you turn a home Machine into and exceptable coffee machine. One final point as well, stirring at the end is something I’d never do, gentle stir to keep the froth, as you drink through the sweet frothy milk, again to make a shop bought taste. Hope I haven’t stepped on any toes here, but I felt I really had to mention the tamping and coffee it’s THE single main thing you need to get right, and I see far too many people moaning and complaining saying this like , eww it’s bitter, tastes horrible. It’s all down to the measurement and tamp pressure of your grounds. When you practice this you will be amazed at the difference, just try it, makes one tight and too much coffee, and make one loose and too little coffee… It’s that balance you need to get right, in time you will literally know what’s right for your machine, and all are different btw…. That’s why getting it right is important. Enjoy your coffee’s

@@JustADad the bitter taste can also come from waiting too long to drink it, or combining it with milk or water. once the shot turns black like that, from the honey brown color to solid black or dark brown, the shot has gone bad and will be bitter. shots need to be dumped into the milk within 10 seconds basically. with this machine it do that for you though.. though it seems to do the milk first and then the shots.. which is a bit backwards..
@utewatchco14682 жыл бұрын
Doesn't you comments regarding the tamping only apply to non-pressurized machines? On the pressurized ones if tap to hard the machine is not able to the water thru the grounds when they are tamped to compact.

Just so everyone knows you do NOT have to use a dark roast. I believe that is just a US thing. I lived in Italy for a few years. You can use any roast that you choose. Lavazza, which is an Italian brand, has different roasts for different level of taste. They have from Gold to Forte. My fave was Rosé which is a lighter taste and no bitterness. One of the best dark roasts is Café Nero. But we haven't been able to find it for purchase here in the states yet. You can purchase any bean flavor you choose, have it ground for espresso or grind it at home. I have a Crux grinder which does not heat the beans when ground. Café Bustelo (boo-stel-oh) is a very very bitter café and is better used in a Moka to make café Cubano. Or if you are like my husband who loves the bitterness then make your espresso. The way espresso (café) is supposed to be served is with a small glass of water you drink behind the café. That is the way that is served in any coffee bar in Italy. .. here's a funny little tidbit, in Italy, Cafe Americano is called dirty water. 🤣

Hi there! I just got a brand new Mr. coffee one touch coffee machine. Woot! But for some reason when I make either a Latte or Cappuccino the drink isn’t HOT. It’s warm but not hot like how it should be. Any idea of what I did wrong ? 🤔 Do you think if I leave the machine on for at least 10 mins before I make a drink would help ?

You can preheat the mugs by placing it on top of the machine it has a warming plate. This can be a problem with these machines. my latte's are only about 135 degree when I am done making them. they cool off really fast.

I have a question about this machine: when you pull a double shot of espresso, does the machine have any way of sensing how much liquid it has passed through the grinds or does it just pull a shot for 15 seconds or whatever and then whatever's in the cup at the end is what's in the cup? I've seen some videos of these automatic espresso machines where they dump out a single shot of espresso in about 4 seconds, and I know nothing about coffee, but I don't think that's supposed to be right.

@@JustADad Thanks for the reply, but I think there might be a bit more to it than that because in this video - kzbin.info/www/bejne/nXrXpJeEqJiLarM They make a large latte on the same machine (rebadged as the Breville One-Touch for the European market) and the espresso is pulled in about half the time it is in this video, so I find that puzzling.

Thank you for your detailed review, I so appreciate ALL your videos. They are always so comprehensive. I have a small Delonghi right now. But the portafilter is really small, even for the double shot. I read that in order to make a decent cup of espresso, it needs 16 to 18 grams of espresso ground to 2 ounces of water. Unfortunately, the double shot portafilter for the Delonghi only holds about 14 grams of espresso grounds, so my coffee is either very small or if I use just a bit more water then it is very weak. I’m really interested in the Mr. Coffee but am concerned if the portafilter holds enough grounds. Would you happen to know how many grams of espresso grounds the double portafilter can hold? Thank you so much for your reply in advance.

I've had a few coffeemakers over the years. This has outperformed them all giving perfect coffee. However, mine has suddenly stopped working... once it warms up I get three flashing lights and the machine will do nothing. fyi they are the lamps for large espresso, large latte and large capuccino. this happens most times I turn it on, but occasionally just the large and small capuccino lamps flash. Before this it has made delicious coffees every day for 15 months, and has had regular cleaning. Is my machine dead or is there a factory reset?

I've used two machines like this now - pressurized baskets and automatic frothing. These things are good for breaking into the espresso at home market. However, after getting a machine like the Breville Bambino, I have learned the true limitations of these cheaper home epsresso appliances. The baskets are smaller, so you don't get the full flavor, and it froths wrong - you usually end up with a lot of big bubble foam with heated milk, instead of true microfoam. These are OK to start with, but if you can afford it, move on.
