This is a really good review. Glad I found it. I just ordered the RV2502AE as a replacement for my 3-year old Neato Botvac D5. The Neato has been OK but a bit problematic. It burned out the side brush motor and often stops cleaning halfway saying "reboot me". It also has a bad habit of skipping rooms and has no option to only do one room. Now the battery is dying and rather than spending more money on it I decided it was time to replace it. In case anyone else is considering the Shark, the manufacturer website has the RV2502AE on sale until 1/1/2022 for $449 and they throw in a 3 year warranty with free shipping both ways.

The AI model finally made it to Europe and I got mine for Christmas. Such a great upgrade from the Roomba we had for 5 years. I've had to program no-go zones for the Ikea Poang chairs not because it gets stuck on them (like the Roomba did) but because it gets termporarily hung up and loud. Like you, I've never had to go find the Shark. I love that runs every day on schedule. What I find hilarious is the concept of an indicator telling you the vacuum is emptying. It sounds like a jet engine but they think you might not notice? Just like my ear-splitting coffee bean grinder has an indicator light, so silly. My question for you is whether it's possible to re-map a room. It seems to have missed a part of a room when originally mapping.

Great video. How tall is the bumper on the 2502? My current 911 is about 3.5" which just barely fits under our kitchen cabinet overhang. Anything higher probably won't fit.

Great info! Just a tip: say the actual model everytime you talk about them rather than saying "this one, that one, the older one, the newer one". The beginning was really hard to follow until both models were visible in the same shot.

Thank you for your video. I bought the AV2501 AI Ultra shark vacuum. It has been charging for 7-hours after unboxing but it is flashing a red battery icon on the robot. I can’t seem to find anything explaining what that indicates. I wonder if it means the lithium battery is bad. The charging lightening bolt is highlighted when it’s on the base. Any ideas?

I bought the RV913S recently with a black friday deal at Walmart. It cleans in rows and has the self empty but no permenant map (at least not one I can find.). It does create a daily map after each run though. It's a great vacuum but wish it had all of those other features. Also for some reason my google home can't link with it.

The shark iq used to have no go zones but they removed those a while back unfortunately which is why I'm going to return them because they just keep getting stuck everywhere, the filters on the new ones probably need to be cleaned more often than the first gen self empty, the self empty with the cone has these dyson cones and it filters out alot of dust only the first gens with the silver strip have them the updated iqs no longer have them I believe it was removed due to a lawsuit I have both one pre lawsuit and one post, the the rv2000 I belive only have the selfempty bin and then directly to the filter it that makes sense.

You know the shark iq has map avoidance in the settings if you have their new iq models. I just box the area I want it avoid in the app. It’s called “no go zones”. So you don’t need the strips. Love my IQ’s. Amazing value! Bought all 3 on sale.

They do have that as I am a former IQ user but they don’t work very well at all. Although I did like my old IQ VSlam is just not a very good or accurate mapping system! I constantly had issues. I recently just bought the Shark 2 in 1 and I must say the thing is freaking amazing! I have not had a single problem with mapping or sending the vacuum to rooms! About 95% accuracy. The IQ had about a 40-50% accuracy. Plus it always had to be used with lighting. Lidar can be used in pitch darkness which I love.

@@shredhed7719 yea, the reviews on the AI were so so, plus there are so many high tech models that have come out in the last year. I am really looking at the roborock s8 maxv ultra, however $1050 on sale is a lot. Waiting for that price to come down. As of now I am happy with the iQ’s I am using. I have not had any issues with them. The iRobots were so cheap this Black Friday I ended up buying an i7+ for my bro. The future of robots is very exciting!

I have an AI Shark but it seems like it hits into a lot of places and has trouble getting by something. I may need to have it rescan. As far as cleaning it does a grest job. The on board dust bin does have an odd baffle that seems to plug and itvneeds to be manually cleaned. Not sure why that is even there. My house has no carpet so it really needs ti be run almost daily to make the floors look good living in the New Mexico desert. FINE SAND!

Just curious, I had a Shark IQ that I have since returned. I tried the power settings by sending it out to clean the entire house which it cannot do on a single battery charge, three runs, one at each power setting. In all 3 cases, it returned to the dock after 168 minutes. I also could not hear a change in sound between the settings. Have you tried any of that kind of stuff?

I have a 2,000 sq ft house and it cleans it on one charge. I use the normal suction. you can turn the suction up to max and it sounds a lot louder. If its on max suction then it has to recharge. it has a function that you can select that it will clean and recharge and go finish cleaning after it charges again.

Thanks a lot for this great video! A) I had this exact dilemma B) you did a great job putting it together and hit on all the right points. I currently have the old version for a couple years now. Needs a new brush motor which basically requires disassembling the entire thing to get to. I was debating on just getting a new one or fixing/keeping my old one. Between your video and Shark having it on sale for $200! off ($650 to $450) with a 3 year warranty (current model was 1 year) we decided to do both. I had already ordered a new motor ($40) after disassembling but there were key points with the new one…the fact that you never had to go find it, the no go zones and the fact that it goes right back to its dock rather than searching around for an hour….it mostly always seemed to make it back eventually but it would put you in the loony bin to watch it plus drain a lot more battery and time for nothing. I’m still going to finish fixing the old one but then we’ll just give it to somebody. It hasn’t been all smooth sailing but overall I’ve been pretty happy with my old Shark so getting the new and improved one for $450 was a great deal. I checked the Retailers and they were all at $650 plus the $450 included free shipping. Waiting on the part and the new vacuum atm.

I love my shark AI, it is really nice and I am using it everyday to clean our entire house, The only thing is the shark APP on you phone can be a little tricky, it want you to sign in evetime and I did have to enter in all my rooms again, It must have lost them. but as far as the Vacuum it has never got lost, and the only time I have to go find it was if I leave something like a big rubber band on the floor and it got caught on the wheel, (that was my fault). I keep a dewalt battery blower handy and about every other week I blow the vacuum out and the filters, I am amazed how much dog hair and dirt this thing picks up!!

@@JustADad Good to know as we have the same problem with two cats which is the very reason we have a robot vacuum…I would have to vacuum nearly everyday to keep up with it which I’m not going to do but the robot will. Curious about “blowing it out”. What exactly do you blow out? Partly asking because I was surprised how much hair was unseen in the wheel wells after I took the drive wheels off. Not overly concerned about the app once the no-go zones are set up (have some cabling/wires that are always a problem with the old one and if he doesn’t get the wires sucked up in him he gets stuck on the boundary strip) as I rarely tell him to go to a specific room. Most of the time I just press his button and tell him to go. The signing in thing seems odd though. My current app doesn’t do that but the app HAS always been flaky and the “go to your room” direction doesn’t work more often than it does when I do try it.

Btw, I did have a couple other robot vacuums before this one. First one a decade ago or so ago was a Neato which did work pretty well and was smart but that was before the spinning side brush was a thing and it didn’t get edges real well (or self empty). Then had a Bobsweep which was the bounce around type and it was TERRIBLE. Luckily didn’t spend a ton of money on it but it was near worthless. It got hair tied up in everything to the point it wouldn’t move, it got stuck everywhere (like on top heater vents! Really? You’re stuck on a heater vent?). Basically it would just bounce around, get stuck somewhere, or it’s wheels won’t roll, and if nether of those happened it would just die from its battery because it could never find its charger. Basically I had to play hide and seek every time I used it and often it’s hidden somewhere deep like under a bed (and they don’t exactly slide out on carpet). But it did have a side brush if I recall I’m pretty sure. Overall the Shark was pretty smart, mostly didn’t get stuck places (occasionally), and self empties which is huge.

get a dreame z10 pro. its on sale $509 with an excellent self empty base (empties well) with 4L (60day bags), Lidar mapping, almost perfect obstacle avoidance, great navigation, clean by room/zone, go/nogo zones, automatic carpet detection with max auto power on carpet if you want, good battery life, good suction, decent app/interface. Does have mopping which i don't use. Basically a competitor to the top of the line robot vacs but costs ~$500 instead of ~$700-$1000 like the other premium brands (irobot, roborock, ecovacs deebot)

@@shaolin95 obstacle avoidance was huge for us because i want the vacuum to run on autopilot and don't want to have to pickup and prep my place for the vacuum. the z10 pro i got has fantastic obstacle avoidance, better than i expected at avoiding socks, cords, toys etc. Haven't run into issues with long hair but we'll see. The shark has almost no obstacle avoidance except for tall objects detected by the main lidar as far as i could tell from online video reviews. Anyways, to each his own of course.

@@JustADad when you go into the app, hit add like you are doing a room, that's where you find rooms and zones. I said something a year ago about it to them about needing it. Like not sure why it's not in the app like all the other makers, it would be cheaper too. Lol I'm sure I am not the only one mentioned it to them but they listened and one day, my rooms erased and I was like what the hell. Looked and that was there. I notice every time my rooms erase on the map, it's a map update and something new is there like the sizing selection etc. It always holds the map though. It's a great little robot.

I have the rv2610 and the pet hair get stuck in the roller brush end cap. To clean that part so it will work you have to remove the cap. After 7 months the cap melted. Shark said I shouldn't remove this cap to clean it but it would not work if I didn't. The would not replace the brush for free so I got irritated. I told them goodbye. I called back and they are sending another one but it will have the same problem. They said the RV2502 AE works better for pet hair but mine is supposed to do the same. Crappy design. I wish I never listened to my wife about buying this junk! JMO

The dome on the top is the worst invention that came up with. Cano longer go under my couches or tables and so I have to sweep or vacuum separately. As well as for some reason it does not want to do my kitchen corners. You can buy it, but it has its limitations. I prefer the old model where there is no dome on the top.

Great vacuum, Crappy app. Cant get it to connect to my WiFi even though we have several laptops, cell phones tv's and many other devices all connected. Rebooted router, shark and phone. It is a worthless app that does not work. They wont build a PC app so it was worthless. Took it back tp COSTCO for a refund. If I cant program it then its not worth anything to me.

@JustADad you can buy super cheap bluetooth/wired microphones that include a pop and wind filter probably which would help. Ultimately speaking directly into your recording device captures excessive mouth sounds.
