Very clear tutorial! But I just have one question: How many GPS signals do I at least need for the CL to work effectively? I get like 4 - 6 GPS signals in my area in the Philippines so I have some doubts before I can start using CL

Thanks Tom. Finally I found an easy, clear, understandable explanation about the special features: CL and HL Have you or your colleagues done any experimenting with other propellers? Like using 9" instead of 8" on the Phantom FC40 model? or using carbon fiber propellers? or using the triple bladed propellers? any remarks regarding handling, and lift and flight times would be great.

Thanks Tom. I'm waiting for the Phantom 3 to come in in a couple of weeks, it will be my first quad. I don't know if it will have the same control options and layout but I assume it will in some way, and your video has been the best I've seen yet for clarifying what the different modes are for. I see this mode as being great for tracking a moving object with the camera, but not getting confused trying to steer it. You can follow or pass a subject while rotating the quad to track, by simply keeping the right stick pressed forwards and rotating with the left ya? I have subscribed and will be checking out your other videos. Could you please purchase the Phantom 3 so you will be available to explain that too?! Danke shcon!

Perfect, finally figured out that the Phantom needs to be OFF initially when CL is set... Then switch S2 5x between 'Off' and 'CL' does the new CL heading trick... Now I'll try it in reality when flying... Thanks...

Thanks for the vid! For the super noobs like myself 20 mins ago, don't forget that you might have to turn on the IOC mode via usb cable on your computer. I forgot to to this and my CL mode wasn't working: 1)start up the Naza software (download from dji site) 2)hookup the Phantom to the computer. 3)click the advanced button 4)click the IOC button 5)check the small box next to the border of small window (may need to use transmitter/receiver to switch through CL/HL/off modes to allow you to check box) Now CL will work

Hi Tom, Thank you so much for presenting your extremely informative and entertaining video tutorials. I am new to the QuadCopter community. I received a UDI 818A QuadCopter for Christmas, and became quickly hooked. I plan to purchase a DJI Phantom 3 Standard soon. However, I will keep using my UDI 818A until I feel really proficient at most flight maneuvers before making my purchase. I’ve watched many other QuadCopter videos, and everyone seems to be using their iPhone along with the hand-help controller. Yet, you don’t appear to be utilizing an iPhone type of device all the time. So, my question is: Do I need an iPhone, or an Android etc. in order to fly a Phantom 3? What will I be missing out on? I still only have an old Flip Phone, and may simply need to finally buy an iPhone. Is it absolutely necessary though? Thanks for your time and consideration. Kind Regards, Owen Matthews

Hey Tom ... good videos - thank you for posting. Unfortunately, cl or hl are not working for me so either I am doing something wrong or there is a fault with the phantom but I did try what you suggested and no matter what direction the nose was pointing in - forward, backward etc. did not do as expected. Any ideas?

Tom, when flying in a straight line in 'Course Lock', can I yaw the drone around while she is still flying in the same straight direction with is the "front"? In other words, by yawing the drone from left to right while flying forward in 'Course Lock', I could keep the camera pointed on the same subject as the drone is flying past the object...

I THINK I FINALLY GOT IT. So when you are in CL or HL mode no matter what direction your camera is facing, the drone will fly back to you when you push downward on the controller? IS THAT RIGHT? Many thanks again. M

+Maximilian Imaging well I'm flying a p1v1.1.1 and home lock does fly back to you when you pull back on the stick which ever direction it's facing but in course lock mine flies back on compass bearing, example== fly north 100mt from takeoff then turn west fly 100mt west, turn on course lock and pull back on the right stick it will come back but on a southerly direction so when it's traveled back 100 mt it's still 100 mt over to the west from me ????? this is what happens on my p1v1.1.1

I v seen on your vid that once you decide to reinitialize main direction of the CL mode you then switch up down S2 5 times. Isnt this action is basicaly supposed to initialize a new GPS home point for your Phantom ?

Yes... switch the IOC switch 5 times to move the home point...... you shouldn't really need to do this tho.
