Good video you didn't point out that traffic services only work when you use your mobile phone as a hotspot as there is no sim card in the device - after seeing this tempted to upgrade from my TomTom 6000 which I use as well as Google Maps traveling to and from work as Google Maps doesn't show current speed of most traffic camera's

Also a smartphone requires a data connection unless you download offline Google (other mapping providers exist) maps. (Correct me if I'm wrong). Also if you loose or break your phone on a trip you may not be able to drive back. So no worries about dropping or loosing your phone.

I have just bought one as my previous one no longer receives live traffic, which is one of the main reasons for using a sat nav. One thing it does not do which I think could be easily fixed with a software or firmware update is the ability to show daytime displays day and night but automatically dim at night.

There are some issues you have not covered. For example, if you are driving and need the sound of the instructions turning up, you have to exit the current route before you can alter the sound level. This means reprogramming the route to continue - try doing that as a loan driver on a less than smooth road surface! There are lots of issues for loan drivers who cannot ask someone to work the device while they are driving and there are very few improvements on TomTom's voice control when you reach a favourites menu - only 4 items are listed at a time and you cannot speak the name of a favourite. You have to keep turning pages and then say a number of 1 to 4. There are also important features, where you cannot concentrate on driving and also searching through menus to reach them: Some features, such as avoiding a closed road (not shown as blocked on TomTom) when it is suddenly reached, or temporarily avoiding motorways, cannot be switched from the home screen. Contacting TomTom about such matters has proven impossible and I am sure it would not take much programming to improve.

Very nice, I agree that even though smartphones can be used as a satnav, it is best to have a separate satnav so your phone battery will not be drained and/or if you need to make an emergency call.

The tom tom go Discover is no doubt a fantastic Satnav but since I am unable to download custom POI’s such as speed camera alerts I have decided to stay with Garmin as that is the sat nav I can download custom POI’S to my navigation device. Other than that Tom Tom have stopped a lot of people buying their latest devices me included, unfortunately. Seemingly Tom Tom is looking after the intellectual property as Tom Tom provide their own speed camera alerts unfortunately these alerts do not include may spots where the speed cameras sit on a temporary basis instead of the static always on speed camera so any mobile Police camera spots are missed by this Tom Tom and any other Tom Tom that they decided no more custom Poi’s which is pretty useless. Pity really as I would swap from Garmin to this latest Tom Tom device. I don’t speed but it is easy to get caught just a couple of MPH above the speed limit which everyone does from time to time. If you dont mind not being able to downlaod your own custom Poi's then sure buy this sat nav.

Next time hook your mobile or WiFi up to it and you'll be able to test traffic services and possibly live services if activated on demo unit. Would be great to see. ☺️

Generally speaking, I find that the TomTom will automatically switch on when it receives power from the car.

I believe all TomTom models feature traffic as a standard feature. However you need to teather you phones data connection to it via Bluetooth or as WiFi hotspot.

Can anyone tell me why this tomtom no longer says its received a new destination and sets me up ready to go there. I used (with previous tomtoms) to be able to use my phone or PC one the same account and send a destinationation from my places and the tomtom would respond appropriatley and tell me I had received a new destination. Now I have to click on centre and then select drive. Not a big issue but a funny little change. Also you don't mention that while the mount look identical to previous mounts it isn't and the company cannot supply second mounts at the moment.

I love my Go600 with built in sim card. No need for a phone. I use my bluetooth on my phone to Connect to my stereo set in my car, and I can’t Connect both bluetooth at the same time, so I have to stick with my good Old Tomtom. Otherwise bye bye Tomtom
