re tube vs modeller: I think I have been to ONE show - where I'm pretty sure they used modellers and it did not take anything away from the experience. I understand the part where it's more convenient for larger productions or stuff like that. But especially those shows where I've seen an artist before they made the switch... It just takes away SO much from the feel. I don't care how big the venue. You always hear something is lacking if they use modellers.

I’m Seeing sammy and joe at redrock in colorado. Can’t wait! Always wanted a reason to see that beautiful venue. It is sad to think about Eddie not being there, but I’m glad they are paying tribute and I know Joe will be up to task.

My Ada Microcab 2 sounds really good combining 2 filters. Open 1x12 and closed 1x12 at the same time. I got great results with it. I just use my stereo pair of Two Notes Torpedo Cab M plus boxes IR DI boxes.

"There's something to be said to make music and not sit there and tweak, you know what I mean, just plug in and go." This, after 4 decades of playing amps and modellers. I just decided 12 years ago to stick with what I know, and like, and what makes me smile. Modellers have their place and convenience, no denying that, and I will occasionally use one gig dependant. Plenty of choices out there with smaller amps and rigs to compete with digital world.

At 33:00 re: adding post EQ to post compressor, believe the EQ went in series after the post compressor (not before the post compressor). Preamp --> DBX160 --> TC1140 EQ / Arts EQ --> TC1210/TSC chorus into first stage parallel mixer where you would see Reverb (PCM70/Roland), Micropitch (SPX90 / H3000) and/or Delay (PCM42 / SDE3000) get introduced (in parallel), followed by a second stage parallel mixer where you could add additional delay / reverb (or just run the secondary delay / reverb effects in series post first stage parallel mixer via the output of the first stage parallel mixer). Hope that helps anyone trying to get closer to the 80s/90s rack cleans!

Marc, IME in order to rectify the problem that you have with Kemper turned up, you would have to avoid (probably) third party profiles, bring your own amp that you like playing, wind it up to where you want it and profile THAT. That's the key. Works with Tonex. Also, that kinda goes without saying, any major gain changes should be profiled additionally.

The VH tribute show was a lot of fun. It was really a pure celebration. Hope it goes on again next year and they can pull out more of the deeper stuff that people want to hear live again

There will always be a modeler vs tube amp debate. When I go direct out of the kemper the tone takes a bit of tweaking venue to venue. Once I used it through a power amp and miked cab it only seems to get better with volume. Friedman 1. My 2 cents. O. Lol

Not to rain on your Dave parade and l will add that yes The Friedman products are absolutely ACE. Grover no longer makes the Friedman guitars. I think Rock and Roll relics makes them which is AOK as well. But with confidence.

The modeler question - this is the key - they have a good sound but don’t have the feel. So some playing styles don’t suffer but some like mine suffer as I rely on pick attack and picking force to alter the sound

I think the issue with the BOBW tour is primarily in the lead playing and not rhythm as much. The leads clearly sound like anyone on the internet playing it/covering it. Pete Thorn should have been the elected member of Sammy’s tour.

actually Harley Bentons are hit and miss,they have many b stocks,quality is not good if you buy during hot sales,also stainless frets are a pita to straighten out and polish
@jutukka3 ай бұрын
Seems that nobody (really able to play guitar too) test plays those guitars before they leave the factory. However some of those Harley Bentons are astonishingly good guitars for the price, if nothing has gone wrong in the manufacturing process. I purchased one SC last year and that guitar is very good, except the nut slots were a total joke, 1st string higher than 6th etc. Thomann was willing to swap it to a new one but I refused because that guitar was otherwise so ridiculously good that I fixed the nut myself and they compensated me because of that nutjob for about 15% of the price. Good customer service.

What Dave, are you upset that Joe isn’t playing the parts exactly like Eddie?
@jazroc563 ай бұрын
I thought Joe was absolutely fantastic and respectful in his interpretation of the VH stuff. Enough of the original parts with the right amount of personal touch to make it fun. Joe’s tone was also monstrous!! Those are some massive shoes to fill and joe did it with class and humility.
@SimpsonMusicProductions3 ай бұрын
From what I've seen online, it's been pretty bad. Not only is Joe's tone and performance, not even close... Jason can't do Alex. Eddie and Alex had a swing to their groove. I think Dave was just biting his tongue 😮
