I was never happy with my tone until I bought the Jensen Blackbird 100 watt alnico! All the Celestions I've had did not give me that lovely silky and yet full tone. Then I bought a Jensen P12R and WOW! What a nice breakup on low volumes! Now looking to get the Falcon and maybe even the P12Q

I have C12R in my Traynor YGM3 sounds perfect. I know some want more celestion sound, but its based on the fender deluxe, more or less, and the low watt jensen works really well. Even with a pedal out front it works well. I was building cabs for a while and had a dozen speakers. Jet Falcon 10 in a 210 arrangement is really great and can easily handle a 50 watt head and pulls the fizz out of some circuits. Swamp thang is a good speaker, but very heavy. What I noticed on a marshall tone is a Vin 30 has to be loud to sound amazing. Might be my perception, but sounded better loud. Greenback played well both quiet or loud. If you never get a chance to play above bedroom level, you are missing out.

The way I see it is if I want the sound of a speaker in the 60's, I want a new speaker made to spec. Because in the 60's those speakers were new at the time, and so were the freshly charged alnicos in the pickups

Thanks for sharing all this knowledge ! I have a question about the jensen speakers demo you've made : were they 8ohm or 16ohm speakers ? Cheers ! ;-)
@tonepedia3 жыл бұрын
Hi Edvard, Sorry it took us time. The speakers were 8 Ohm. Cheers!

Do you would know if a Jensen C10Q would sound good and not harsh on a Fender Frontman 25R?
@tonepedia2 жыл бұрын
Can’t see why it would sound harsh. It’s a nice speaker. Have you tried it on the TonePedia website yet?
@raulgrangeiro2 жыл бұрын
@@tonepedia I tried and liked very much the sound. I'm just afraid of it because the 25R is an amp a bit bright.

@@raulgrangeiro We have spoken to Jensen themselves. Here is their answer, specifically for the 25R: "The C10Q is a great choice. The Falcon 10 is another option. The C10Q is a more vintage oriented speaker, the Falcon is a more modern one. If the player seeks for more high gain sound, then the Falcon 10 will be the way to go. Both speakers are on the smooth end of our line and should fit well to this amplifier."

@@eladyaacov9152 man, Thanks for this answer, and thank you for taking your time to help me. So I'll go to C10Q. The vintage sound is what I look for. God bless you!

Couple things.Re : speaker break up is"stupid".Lol,firstly not offended (too much of that these days).That said the value in vintage amp break up owes largely to *the inadequacy* of the amp's designs.FE small filter caps,small OT,small speaker motor(magnet),etc.Economy of build was the rule.IE the manufacturers did not foresee people overdriving the amps.As such when cranked up the filter caps could not supply adequate B+,the output transformer would reach core saturation,the speaker magnet would not be able to maintain the dynamics/punch and waiver (go loose,break up)Add to that power tube cathode biasing(voltage dropping w current draw) and tube rectification(voltage sagging with current draw) and lastly tubes clipping the signal you have an amp that is now very sensitive to the response of the player in the form of touch sensitivity,compression,sustain,browning of the timbres,etc.THAT is the sound and response many players are after.I see modern speakers(Jensen included) adopt higher wattage voice coils.I see no issue with pushing most modern speakers into that zone.I do *exactly* that with my Falcon 10 in my Valco supreme (12 watts w small OT).Everything breaks up together and the sound is wonderful. That said props tp Jensen for giving the customer useful sound samples and plots/data.Otherwise I'd have not purchased the Falcon 10/Nice little speaker w some nice break up :)

1/2 hemp 1/2 paper.I've wondered if that intermediate material is possible for a warmer speaker but less rounded than hemp alone.(smoother attack than paper alone but less slow/stiff than hemp alone)Also 1/2 alnico 1/2 ceramic magnet structure for some spongey alnico feel with some faster response of the ceramic for an intermediate response.

Interesting in going to suggest this to my speaker rebuilder and see if he can make that work!
