You commenters can say all you want. Premo had a hand in making most of the best hip hop EVER! Gangstarr albums, the first Jay Z joints, Jeru, Nas....this man is a legend and you should feel lucky to watch this.

damn i never thought i'd see so much hate on DJ PREMIER, the best hip-hop DJ/producer of all time, for using serato. this guy lived through the golden ages of rap while DJing on thousands of records for all the best rappers. he shows mad love for old records and just because he uses new vinyl technology doesn't make him any less of a DJ. his achievements speak for themselves and i'm sure he doesn't care for your approval of using serato

You're leaving out one important fact- Premier has paid his dues, has spent years carrying records and collecting records...

@TheReggiereg1 After the release of Math, Jeru reportedly had a falling-out with DJ Premier and Guru and was missing from the scene until 1999, when he released his third album, Heroz4Hire. It was released together with Mizmarvel, which was his first album without production from DJ Premier and also his first under KnowSavage Records. It featured the single "99.9 Pa Cent," which was a verbal attack on Gang Starr. The album was less critically acclaimed than his last. Their beef in a nutshell.

@toneriggz12 жыл бұрын
I don't see it that way...I think Premo asked him if those were the headphones and Eclipse just automatically plugged them in...Eclipse was the manager of Fat Beats, so whatever needed to be done, he did it...It was literally his job to make sure things went smoothly and anyone who saw him at the store, knows that he was always working, whether stocking shelves, answering phones, working the register...He wasn't a typical manager who laid back, he was always working...

The paper in between the hole and the spindle and transforming with the the toggle switch! Old school shit of real.had the pleasure of meeting Primo back in '89 when they in were the Sco to do a show.Real good,down to earth brother.No need to disrespect the homie,he's a legend.he ain't never been no battle style DJ,but he can definitely hold his own on the wheels.
@BigRobVTheOriginal10 жыл бұрын
Gotta a question for ya'll….anybody know what the paper in between the hole and the spindle was for?
@kpgpwi6410 жыл бұрын
Robert Vernon to add tension and keep the record from bouncing around, and also a makeshift temporary cue marker if needed.
@BigRobVTheOriginal10 жыл бұрын
That's right.because some times the size of the holes would vary.and for a temporary cue marker too.Most of the time though we would just mark our labels.
@johnduff391410 жыл бұрын
Sightly larger holes were common on small independent labels. Probably because they used cut rate pressing plants to manufacture their records. Major label releases rarely had this problem.
@CreationRebelBrand7 жыл бұрын
Why do this when he'd using digital format and guessing in REL mode. That shit dont skip so why make the hole smaller?

I have no experience in DJ'ing, however Preemo has inspired me to try it out. I like his style and his set equipment. Old school turntables feel and look a lot more authentic than what a lot of DJ's use this days. I'm also lucky that vinyl sales have increased the last couple of years. A lot more commercial retailers sell it these days.

i said this not beacuse he is a DJ , i said because i saw a lot of interviews of gangstarr a primo and Guru (RIP) talked like if the culture of the hip hop was in their soul like something spiritual not just music, this is what i feel when a hear Gangstarr , songs like Discipline, skills or Ex girl to Next girl make me feel really good like something magic around me, hip hop and Gangstarr(sorry for my bad english)

Serato must be earned. And yes, mixing vinyl is more difficult because you don't have the visual element as a guide. Watch all the zombie DJs mix and stare at their screens...

Bottom Line : You can't stop technology. There is not a lot of vinyl being released right now. A lot of it is not worth buying. The companies stopped pushing the format years ago. I remember the golden age of dj vinyl. Things have changed. I remember the days of settling for bootleg vinyl when I couldn't get an original pressing. Primo, Scratch, Jazzy Jeff and others keep it as real as it gets. Vinyl will be with us forever, these legends continue to give wax it's proper respect.
@EStLouisAsassin12 жыл бұрын
DJ's didn't kill vinyl. DJ's at Primo's level got free promos anyway. But as he stated, he still collects and buys new vinyl. Technology and economics combined to shift the format focus. Vinyl is still alive and kicking, it will probably never be as strong as it once was, but it will never die. DJ's kept the format alive. Now audiophile pressings are breathing new life into the format. New collectors are being added to the fray at a record pace.

I still don't understand why some people are that pissed off about them using Serato...Yeah, Premo and Scratch use it but 1. they've paid their dues for years before Serato was even created and 2. they own thousands of records each...They did this shit for free, the store was already going to close down, so playing Serato or not would make no difference except they wouldn't have to worry about carrying a bunch of records to a free performance...

my dude, hip hop is a culture no ifs ands or buts, and culture shapes individuals (like myself), and Primo is a person crafted by the culture, but he is also a contributor to the culture, due to his iconic status as a deejay. So with that being said, as Hip Hop Heads, its done so much for us, it's our time to give back and make the culture fllourish cuz it's still only a sapling being fed poison (shitty rap music), and needs that shit from the soul to grow

How many DJ's can still Mix? I mean withouth beatsyncH? LOL.... They don't even break artists no mo! I mean, at least without a giving them $200 and a drink.... Payolla. Hip hop has now been pimped. So I host my own mixtapes and mix my own junk. Forget paying $600 to a DJ and then have to pay studio costs too? LOL... Yeah right! I am the true meaning of DIY do it yaself! True hip hop!

I kno Premier's been in tha game for years but if u guys accept Premier's (1000 records to be a DJ statement) then thats ya own fault. Let b real here, for the 300 u got IN THIS GENERATION in my opinion thats decent until u can build ya vinyl collection. That doesn't necessarily mean your not a DJ. U can have a 1000 records & still don't kno how to scratch or rock parties
@diggie7212 жыл бұрын
Of course, but the fact is that he's still playing MP3's, not records. Doesn't that seem at least a bit paradoxal to anyone then? Besides, in my opinion records need to be played, not kept in storage while their digital clones get all the shine. Nice set though, but the girl in red looks sooooo bored... :)
@palomino1312 жыл бұрын
primo asked if those were the headphones he could use,then eklipse plugged em in. he said" thanks for the headphones, i'll try not to sweat em out" eklipse said "dont brake em. premier had already thanked him for the vynil and said he was unprepared. forget the headphone flunky if you use vynil get somebody to carry them damn crates.
@noahgtv12 жыл бұрын
agree with your post, but still i will make someone put my headphones in lol btw, its primo so i would automaticly plug his headphone in lol with out him asking Primo is like Chuck Norris of Hiphop, al the gear there is form Primo even if he doesnt owns it haha Hiphop gotta love it!
@Maalik031112 жыл бұрын
I made a comment abt Primo using the laptop, all the while downing those that dont use vinyl. Some got and laughed along others didnt get and replied waaaay out of the box, I understand the concept, but def dont agree with it, thats like Guru making a record using autotune.
@maccagrabme12 жыл бұрын
Why would he want to lug all the vinyl he uses to cut it up each time and damage it? That's a warped state of mind. Most people couldn't tell the difference if they couldn't see the laptop there so why bother? There is no more skill involved using original vinyl.
@SLIMKUTT11 жыл бұрын
It shows where we are,and that the good old vinyl is slowly dying,I have been afraid of it since the early 90's... I DO STILL BUY VINYL ! No vinyl ? No money will be spended... I can't watch this vid any longer,makes me kinda sad !

Listen that dude is a hater and is probably so young he doesn't know that back when Premier started there wasn't any dj software or computers to dj. I spent many days with a backache from carrying hundreds of crates of vinyl myself. Respect an icon.
