At the end of the day, Tonex is just neural network based capturing just like NAM, Atomic's Tonocracy, and others. So, of course it can capture an already made capture with NAM or any other software. It can also capture amp sims, like from Neural DSP or STL Tones, which can work really well too. What Tonex really has going for it is the hardware pedal that lets you load these captures for live usage. While NAM and Tonocracy might be just a tiny bit more accurate than Tonex, Tonex still sounds great and is already much more accurate than previous offerings (Kemper Profiling Amp, Quad Cortex, etc.) Personally, I'd still load the pedal up with IRs separately instead of a full rig capture including the cab. I find I get a little better results when capturing just the amp portion and then running it into an IR. It also gives you more flexibility to change the sound around later.

Hell yeah dude, both sound amazing. Really thinking of grabbing one of those Tonex pedals. Great comparison! 🤘🏻

I'm also picking up the TONEX in a couple days. More for recording and capturing amps and stuff. But a life headed towards boring stage shows. A bunch of people on an empty stage. I've been to hundreds of concerts and hundreds of shows, and played live for years in Nevada and AZ. A stage presence makes or breaks a show. The look of amps and cabinets, the feel of the cabinets pushing the air. It's like a drummer coming out playing on Lowes buckets instead of a drumset. 😥 The thrill is gone.

I agree man, at least now that I go play in front of nobody, I didn't have to carry my heavy amp lol

Merry Christmas to you and yours brother. Thanks for the sub, I appreciate the support.....I'm hoping IK allows you to drag presets from Amplitube 5 to the pedal. Right now it only works the other way around, and I would like it more for the fx chains from Amplitube 5 :D

You should run these plugins at their preferred sample rates for ultimate accuracy. NAM @48 khz, Tonex @44.1khz.

Maybe. It's of low criticality, that's for sure. The difference between Nyquist frequency being at 22 kHz vs 24 kHz vs 48kHz is hardly going to matter even a 1/1000th of a % because the guitar speaker isn't giving you anything above 7-8 kHz from the get-go. Anything higher frequency that a mic can still pick up is a) likely to consist of noise already in your _super-fancy studio environment,_ and not the amp. From that dodge-y door hinge to the neighbor's A/C to loose screws and snares, etc - anywhere there is sub-optimal coupling makes for HF buzzing and extra unwanted metallic resonances that a mic can pick up. And also b) soon Fletcher-Munson'ed beyond recognition by it's sub-miniscule dB level relative to the "main mass" of signal that lives from 50 Hz-5 kHz. i.e. You couldn't hear anything up there with the best ears on earth even if you wanted to, because the fundamentals and overtones that the speaker is producing - all still well under 10 kHz - being over 500x louder than whatever reflections and overtones are (or more likely, _aren't_ ) "up there" in the stratosphere above 20 kHz.

I prefer Tonex for cleans, low and mid gain amp sounds., NAM is awesome for high gain tones.

i have a pair of the tonex pedals. i never use them any more because the ik software is so bad. i also have tonocracy. i have all the great profiles for basically any amp you could dream of and ZERO problems with software. the tones are as good as anything out there and ......i don't have to add a delay pedal as i do with the tonex. the fx in tonocracy are very good and there's anything there you could want. the tonex sounds just as good but you have to deal with ik :(

Yeah, but for a live scenario it's pretty awesome. Of course you have the NAM pedal now, which I may switch to one day and sell the tonex :D

Sorry if you mentioned this because I did jump around a bit in your video, but is this result using Melda actually better than just using the normal Tonex capture process and treating the NAM playback on the computer as an amp?
@piratestudiosproductions

Are you saying use the sound of the NAM amp to go into your real amp and capture that sound from your real speaker? Sorry, I'm confused
@Garflips
@Garflips 9 ай бұрын
@@piratestudiosproductions Tonex doesn't have to capture a standard amp and cabinet. You can also capture a virtual amp such as from a computer. So I'm saying why not just Tonex capture the NAM playback from the computer? You may need to use a separate computer for NAM playback, and a different computer for the Tonex capture, but isn't that what friends are for? 🤓

Yeah, I actually didn't know about being able to do it that until after making my this video. I'm sure a lot of people do that too. Thanks for sharing. I'm not the only pirate in these waters lol

I don’t know, it’s like making a copy of a copy. Why not just look for a real tonex capture of the amp you want ? Then at least it’s only 1 stage of copying. It’s like when you take a zerox, and keep doing it over and over.

Your right about that one man, But this is for a very specific sound, not just a specific amp.
